@wardogmobius nissan wasnt sure what tires they wanted to use. So they would hold off on the 2012 ring lap time. The michelin cup tires are also on porsche gt3, bmw m3, and the viper acr. What should really make you mad is that the 505hp Z06 ran a quicker lap time than the 530hp GTR. Whats even worse is that its nemesis is back on top. The new 2012 911 turbo. The GTR is nice just stop giving it excuses.

ZR1 crucified GTR using OPTIONAL tires from the factory, which appear on the build sheet. Lots of companies offer tires from Michelin/Pirelli on their cars; its called OEM. GT2RS' time was disregarded because it ran tires not offered on it to the public from Porsche. How about you & the GTR dildo brigade bitch about the OPTIONAL carbon fiber cup holder on the ACR from its lap? I'm sure that's why ACR was so fast. Of course that ZR1 is faster. Using very fast MSRC suspensions, very wide tires (stabilize the car.) Contact surface is higher and better at GT-R (4 wheels powered), compared to ZR1 (2 wheels). But ZR1 have lower center of gravity, can handle more average G's, it pulls faster, even have better Michelin tires (super sticky). GT-R is very good engineered, but not like ZR1. GT-R suffer from big weights, and not fantastic semi-automatic g-box

What's funny is, ZR1 has about a 100 more bhp, weighs about 600lbs less, costs about $25,000 more and when all that is said and done, goes only 5 seconds faster. That's really pathetic for stats such as that. Bring the GTR up to 640bhp, down to 3200lbs, and it'll run a <7:10.

Gearbox in GT-R is made by Borg Warner (Americans), and yes it's weakest point of GT-R, because it's made buy un-experienced Borg Warner engineers, who never made paddle shift semi automatic trans good as Getrag, ZF, Aisin, or any other European manufacturer. Corvette with AWD systems would weight even more than GT-R in this moment, that's the reason why ZR1 is trans-axle FMR-RWD layout.
Buddy it's not all about power and weight just, yes it is , but in this moment, on very bumpy race track like Ring, excellent suspensions, traction control system on independent susps, great sticky tires, even better brakes, steering gives much higher advantage. ZR1 is very well developed, that's reason why it's faster. Also same Zo6 2012 which have ZR1 package. GT-R is great car, and AWD system also helps a lot as brakes, tires and TC. So overall all these cars are great.

Well here's my opinion. The GTR was slower than the Zr1 yes. But it looked like a more relaxed drive than the lap Jim Mero did in the Zr1. Jim Mero looked to be driving more in an all or nothing style, much like a qualifying lap (that's not a criticism just an observation). The lap in the GTR was more like the kind of lap a GTR owner would try to put in if he/she visited the Nurburgring. In conclusion the Zr1 is a formidable car in the right hands, the GTR can be a formidable car in most hands.
@shintobloke y'know, I watched both vids again and the driver of the GTR was sawing the wheel the whole time while the ZR1 driver often drove with 1 hand while he shifted with the other...B.S. on the relaxed drive GTR nonsense...you read too many magazines.
@shintobloke Nissan hired pro race car drivers to drive the lap, that is why they looked calm...that, and like others point out, no matter what the driver does, the car's computer corrects. It shifts, steers and brakes for you. Yes the GTR makes average drivers into heroes, but it will not run 7:24 around the Ring in same average driver's hands....the ZR1 is harder to drive fast, but it is faster, and everyone but aforementioned average driver would say more rewarding to drive. My opinion.
ZR1 new record holder 7:19.6 with STOCK tires, STOCK suspension setup, and an engineer driving (not a hired gun.) GM takes the car for a couple of days (not a year like Nissan) runs a stock car and smashes the "better engineered" GTR's dubious 7:24. GTR hates the Corvette folks because it is a better engineered drivers car, not a computer that does all of the driving for you.
Dude they had Micheline engineer the sport cup tires just for the ZR1, they modified the aero components, and now has computer assists with a tuned suspension like the GTR. They had to find a way to better put all that HP on pavement. Car is the same but their were modifications done. And who else to drive it than the person who build it. What does it make it the XBOX 360 of American cars. Love my American muscle but don't stretch the truth dog just saying.
@xGUNxBUNNYx All of the suspension changes, traction control changes and the new Michelin tire option were made over the last 3 years to the same stock car you can buy from GM. Repeat...factory suspension, computer and tire configuration. That is not exaggeration. It is fact. Dodge took a team of engineers who modified suspension settings, wing settings and changed tires for the whole test to get their results...Nissan hired pro drivers and spent months on the Ring to get their results...
@SCRex0472 Who NISSAN? you lost me when you started talking about Dodge. 2012 Nissan GTR is still the same stock car with a tuned ECU and different tires not more expensive especially engineered ones. The ZR1 is not the same. The drivetrain yes but the transmission was improved as was the PTM system, aero improvements, tires, the interior seats were changed for better drivability. Suspension tweeked just like the GTR was to. No its not the same is it was in 09.

They gave it new tires and tweaked the traction control. I would argue that the ZR1 has changed less in the last 3 years than the GTR...the problem for Nissan is that one significant change Corvette gave their car was the Michelin's...The Vette was able to put its power to weight advantage and its braking advantage to the pavement.
Well I'm going of the GM website and the rest of the car websites look it up if I'm wrong then I take back what I said. Both GTR and ZR1 had the same practical improvements. With still the same stock car. Only thing was the GTR was not able to be fully tuned for the RING and it ran in wet conditions its on video. Your last line stated what I said before that all Chevy did was find ways to deliver that HP better on the Pavement. Not ruling for any I own both Muscle and Import.

The ZR1 already had the Corvette platform which is a great advantage over the GTR. Nissan started from the ground up in a couple of years. It is not attached to Skyline history why they dropped that name. This is a complete new platform and car. ZR1 Z06 Z06 all the same platform one more tuned and modded than the other. We set the record with "cut slicks." Oops he said later, my English isn't that good. Translated...we used Racing rubber that we didn't offer on the car to set our original record...Corvette used OEM rubber to top the GTR.

@jorjinos I think you need to watch the video again my friend...I'm going to say this one last time and I am correct...I own a Z06 and I have seen the order forms for the new cars...the Michelin Pilot Sport cups are, I repeat ARE, being offered as OEM equipment on new Z06s and ZR1s as a factory upgrade option. Period...I have seen the order forms. Secondly, The whole reason Corvette is back at the Ring is to test these tires. He goes on to state that ALL OTHER car settings are bone stock.

The RECORD was set by a bone stock ZR1 with Pilot Sport Cup tires; tires that you can order with the car from GM...OEM. Why doesn't the GTR compete in the worlds largest sports car races? It doesn't because it is a heavy, computer aided car that in race trim can't tow the line with BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, and Corvette.
You don't know what are u talking, all these cars including GT-R are fully build electronic controlled cars.
ZR1 have electronic control on almost every part of the car like new Ferraris, BMWs, Porsches. Even suspensions on ZR1 have better electronic control than on mostly Ferraris and BMW's. Without lots of electronic and new technologies ZR1 wont even run 7:50 at ring. Same thing is with GT-R and Porsche GT2 RS.

The GTR in my opinion depends on electronic aid more than mechanical engineering to be as fast as it is, whereas the Vette does not. High tech difs linked to computers shift power from wheel to wheel in order to optimize traction...dual clutch paddle shifted transmission takes care of the pesky need to use a clutch and a manual gear change...If the computers on both cars failed, which one would be faster? Easy.
If electronics fail, both cars are dead. Still Corvette can build standard suspensions, GT-R offers only electronic independent system, so no standard trim. But YOU are right. Much more electronics control in GT-R, from weak g-box, to suspensions, AWD, Launch, Traction, Steering Wheel assist, paddle shifts, clutch...
ZR1 only have Launch, Traction, steering wheel assist, differential control, suspensions. G-box is perfectly made. I think that is T56 or Tremec6060, not sure
But on Chevy's lucky, ZR1 using all electronic control made by Mitsubishi Electric (best supplier of electronics for cars). Even some Euro-exotics using same electronics.

@wardogmobius nissan wasnt sure what tires they wanted to use. So they would hold off on the 2012 ring lap time. The michelin cup tires are also on porsche gt3, bmw m3, and the viper acr. What should really make you mad is that the 505hp Z06 ran a quicker lap time than the 530hp GTR. Whats even worse is that its nemesis is back on top. The new 2012 911 turbo. The GTR is nice just stop giving it excuses.

The 2013 GT-R has noticible improvement in straight line speed. The 2012 GT-R took almost exactly 23 seconds to go from the Audi R8 V10 flag to the Bridge on the long straightaway near the end. The 2013 GT-R seems to take about 22.5 seconds to travel the same distance.

ZR1 crucified GTR using OPTIONAL tires from the factory, which appear on the build sheet. Lots of companies offer tires from Michelin/Pirelli on their cars; its called OEM. GT2RS' time was disregarded because it ran tires not offered on it to the public from Porsche. How about you & the GTR dildo brigade bitch about the OPTIONAL carbon fiber cup holder on the ACR from its lap? I'm sure that's why ACR was so fast. You call the ZR1 a Yank tank yet is significantly lighter than the GTR, uses more advanced materials, is faster even though a person has to shift, has better traction with only two wheels pulling...This video tells me that the ZR1 is 5 seconds faster around the Ring than the GTR...how do you read this in contrast...a fanboy is someone who refuses to admit that there is a car faster than their pet car, and then can't defend that assertion.

Of course that ZR1 is faster. Using very fast MSRC suspensions, very wide tires (stabilize the car.) Contact surface is higher and better at GT-R (4 wheels powered), compared to ZR1 (2 wheels). But ZR1 have lower center of gravity, can handle more average G's, it pulls faster, even have better Michelin tires (super sticky). GT-R is very good engineered, but not like ZR1. GT-R suffer from big weights, and not fantastic semi-automatic g-box

What's funny is, ZR1 has about a 100 more bhp, weighs about 600lbs less, costs about $25,000 more and when all that is said and done, goes only 5 seconds faster. That's really pathetic for stats such as that. Bring the GTR up to 640bhp, down to 3200lbs, and it'll run a <7:10.

Gearbox in GT-R is made by Borg Warner (Americans), and yes it's weakest point of GT-R, because it's made buy un-experienced Borg Warner engineers, who never made paddle shift semi automatic trans good as Getrag, ZF, Aisin, or any other European manufacturer. Corvette with AWD systems would weight even more than GT-R in this moment, that's the reason why ZR1 is trans-axle FMR-RWD layout.

Buddy it's not all about power and weight just, yes it is , but in this moment, on very bumpy race track like Ring, excellent suspensions, traction control system on independent susps, great sticky tires, even better brakes, steering gives much higher advantage. ZR1 is very well developed, that's reason why it's faster. Also same Zo6 2012 which have ZR1 package. GT-R is great car, and AWD system also helps a lot as brakes, tires and TC. So overall all these cars are great.

Well here's my opinion. The GTR was slower than the Zr1 yes. But it looked like a more relaxed drive than the lap Jim Mero did in the Zr1. Jim Mero looked to be driving more in an all or nothing style, much like a qualifying lap (that's not a criticism just an observation). The lap in the GTR was more like the kind of lap a GTR owner would try to put in if he/she visited the Nurburgring. In conclusion the Zr1 is a formidable car in the right hands, the GTR can be a formidable car in most hands.

@shintobloke Nissan hired pro race car drivers to drive the lap, that is why they looked calm...that, and like others point out, no matter what the driver does, the car's computer corrects. It shifts, steers and brakes for you. Yes the GTR makes average drivers into heroes, but it will not run 7:24 around the Ring in same average driver's hands....the ZR1 is harder to drive fast, but it is faster, and everyone but aforementioned average driver would say more rewarding to drive. My opinion.

ZR1 new record holder 7:19.6 with STOCK tires, STOCK suspension setup, and an engineer driving (not a hired gun.) GM takes the car for a couple of days (not a year like Nissan) runs a stock car and smashes the "better engineered" GTR's dubious 7:24. GTR hates the Corvette folks because it is a better engineered drivers car, not a computer that does all of the driving for you.

Dude they had Micheline engineer the sport cup tires just for the ZR1, they modified the aero components, and now has computer assists with a tuned suspension like the GTR. They had to find a way to better put all that HP on pavement. Car is the same but their were modifications done. And who else to drive it than the person who build it. What does it make it the XBOX 360 of American cars. Love my American muscle but don't stretch the truth dog just saying.

@xGUNxBUNNYx All of the suspension changes, traction control changes and the new Michelin tire option were made over the last 3 years to the same stock car you can buy from GM. Repeat...factory suspension, computer and tire configuration. That is not exaggeration. It is fact. Dodge took a team of engineers who modified suspension settings, wing settings and changed tires for the whole test to get their results...Nissan hired pro drivers and spent months on the Ring to get their results...

@SCRex0472 Who NISSAN? you lost me when you started talking about Dodge. 2012 Nissan GTR is still the same stock car with a tuned ECU and different tires not more expensive especially engineered ones. The ZR1 is not the same. The drivetrain yes but the transmission was improved as was the PTM system, aero improvements, tires, the interior seats were changed for better drivability. Suspension tweeked just like the GTR was to. No its not the same is it was in 09.

@xGUNxBUNNYx GTR threw a lot of horsepower at their car last year...don't BS about the GTR not changing...the ZR1 DID NOT CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION, 6 speed manual. They gave it new tires and tweaked the traction control. I would argue that the ZR1 has changed less in the last 3 years than the GTR...the problem for Nissan is that one significant change Corvette gave their car was the Michelin's...The Vette was able to put its power to weight advantage and its braking advantage to the pavement.

Well I'm going of the GM website and the rest of the car websites look it up if I'm wrong then I take back what I said. Both GTR and ZR1 had the same practical improvements. With still the same stock car. Only thing was the GTR was not able to be fully tuned for the RING and it ran in wet conditions its on video. Your last line stated what I said before that all Chevy did was find ways to deliver that HP better on the Pavement. Not ruling for any I own both Muscle and Import.

You can't possibly deny these facts if you really have followed the history of the GTR...

The ZR1 already had the Corvette platform which is a great advantage over the GTR. Nissan started from the ground up in a couple of years. It is not attached to Skyline history why they dropped that name. This is a complete new platform and car. ZR1 Z06 Z06 all the same platform one more tuned and modded than the other. @jorjinos Michelin ZP ZR1 tires are run flats...not Pilot sport cups...the ZR1 destroyed the GTR lap times when it shed the run flats in favor of R compound rubber...I will refer ALL of the GTR fanboys to the comments of the the chief GTR engineer...years ago! We set the record with "cut slicks." Oops he said later, my English isn't that good. Translated...we used Racing rubber that we didn't offer on the car to set our original record...Corvette used OEM rubber to top the GTR.

@jorjinos I think you need to watch the video again my friend...I'm going to say this one last time and I am correct...I own a Z06 and I have seen the order forms for the new cars...the Michelin Pilot Sport cups are, I repeat ARE, being offered as OEM equipment on new Z06s and ZR1s as a factory upgrade option. Period...I have seen the order forms. Secondly, The whole reason Corvette is back at the Ring is to test these tires. He goes on to state that ALL OTHER car settings are bone stock.

@jorjinos This ZR1 didn't run with Pilot Cup ZP's...those are ZP=Zero Pressure, run flats...if you don't have any idea what you are talking about please stop posting. The RECORD was set by a bone stock ZR1 with Pilot Sport Cup tires; tires that you can order with the car from GM...OEM. Why doesn't the GTR compete in the worlds largest sports car races? It doesn't because it is a heavy, computer aided car that in race trim can't tow the line with BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, and Corvette.

You don't know what are u talking, all these cars including GT-R are fully build electronic controlled cars.
ZR1 have electronic control on almost every part of the car like new Ferraris, BMWs, Porsches. Even suspensions on ZR1 have better electronic control than on mostly Ferraris and BMW's. Without lots of electronic and new technologies ZR1 wont even run 7:50 at ring. Same thing is with GT-R and Porsche GT2 RS.

The GTR in my opinion depends on electronic aid more than mechanical engineering to be as fast as it is, whereas the Vette does not. High tech difs linked to computers shift power from wheel to wheel in order to optimize traction...dual clutch paddle shifted transmission takes care of the pesky need to use a clutch and a manual gear change...If the computers on both cars failed, which one would be faster? Easy.

If electronics fail, both cars are dead. Still Corvette can build standard suspensions, GT-R offers only electronic independent system, so no standard trim. But YOU are right. Much more electronics control in GT-R, from weak g-box, to suspensions, AWD, Launch, Traction, Steering Wheel assist, paddle shifts, clutch...
ZR1 only have Launch, Traction, steering wheel assist, differential control, suspensions. G-box is perfectly made. I think that is T56 or Tremec6060, not sure

Stock means it comes from the factor so for 2012 those tires now come STOCK on the zr1 and remain an option for the z06. it wouldnt be called stock if gm ran the lap time on those tires without giving the public an option to have them.
