  • how do you make the fluid less gooey, and more like water?

  • @ThePyroProduction I think a lot of it has to do with getting the time of the simulation correct and the physical size of the domain correct. If your simulation fills half a meter squared and lasts for 10 seconds (or 250 frames where I come from), make sure you set the domain size to 0.5 and the start time to 0 and end time to 10. Then it should behave like real water.

  • @dodgydavec thanks will try that

  • how do you save that animation and send to youtube ???

  • Try quadruple speed or more = real

  • Interesting way to demonstrate the realism of the fluid simulation- Looks great!

Check out my simulation- do you think it looks good?

  • the water is a little gelatinows.. but nice

  • One of the better Blender Fluid Sims

  • Thanks :)

  • double speed seems more realistic

  • I have noticed one big problem with ALL physics sims.

    IT'S TOO FLOATY!!!

If you were to watch a glass of water , or anything else fall, it falls at a high rate of speed. Ragdoll physics let you see the form as the body is in the air, while real life says "You go up, there IS no form because you're coming down... HARD!"

Great video! Double speed is more realistic, though.

  • cool.. can some people check out mine. it's at 260 res and looks real nice... 500 frames long and only in slow motion.

  • i have made a sim with 1024 res, only took 24 hours for 150 frames xD

  • I'm a little jealous of that lol

  • xD xD

  • Can you bring in external video and add graphics (SFX from C4D) to it? Or is that another step like Shake or After Effects?

  • Its a full 3D animation suite. Mostly people model/texture/sequence/animate/rig/ etc in blender and then use some other program to add captions. You can import c4d objects though.

  • ooooooo

  • JAJAJAJAJa bueno

  • very nice!

  • bastante malo

  • how do you make fluid? I just got blender. I AM A NOOB AT BLENDER. help.

  • you can make shapes. there's help online, i think. you can make things clear/ghost somehow. i've just been playing with blender for awhile. i haven't done much :D

  • Search for a tut :P.

  • If you come to the blender underground forums (google it) and register, ask the question there and I will help you out.

  • Hey if you split the screen in blender how do you change the views into front views or side views?

  • press 1 or 3

  • Oh thanks!

  • When you write double speed does that mean you yoused the fluidsim IPO to double the speed of the simulation or did you do it in post? (e.g. video editing software)

  • hey how do you just make it por water all the time

  • you place an object inside the simulation, set it to inflow and give it an initial velocity. The initial velocity in mine was at least -1 on the Z (up/down) direction.

  • i am noob with blender... how i can get a humen there?

  • human?

  • you make it

  • It's a matter of decency not every one can read " dis is fuking shet" so it's not a personal sting at you for your grammer, It's a request to translate it for us.

  • what resolution did u use 4 the fluid

  • Is it possible to render this in real time at about 25 fps..?

  • Sorry, I forgot the details.. I'd export a fluid model, with all its attributes into a Collada file, using Bullet physics to render in openGL..?

  • I doubt it. Not considering how long it takes to "bake" something like this in blender.

  • i know you probably get this alot, but, does this cost anything? and where can i get it?

  • Blender is completely free. Opensource.

  • its a free program calld blender

  • do you need a good computer for this

  • Only as good as any 3D package requires. Any half-decent pc. Mine had 1 gig of ram and an athlon amd64 processor when i made this anim. Hope that helps.

  • Do you think the new computer I got for christmas with a quad core 3GHz processor, 4GB of ram, and an 8800 NVidia GeForce graphics card would do well? :D

  • Ooooh, let me see. Erm. 64bit OS? VERY WELL :D Nice one! :D

  • Merry Christmas! Ooooo boy I can't wait till it arives!

  • Yes, that will work very very well.

  • Great...now we all knwo u have a good computer...who cares!!!!

  • You :P

  • That wasn't his point, asshole.

He wanted to know if it could handle this, you dumbass.

  • yeah right.. he has the latest computer on the market and he is asking if it can handle it..ur an idiot apparantly.

  • All of you, stop feeding the trolls.

  • Dumb ass

  • how am i a dumb ass?

  • how am i a dumb ass?

  • Re-read your own post and perhaps you can gain some perspective as to why I have the opinion I do.

  • ummm ya, ur cool. concidering your making no sense to me and when i ask for you to clarify yourself you dont? how am i the dumbass?

  • How can you possibly ask me that, when you're attempts at writing are equal to that of a 10 year old?

    you wrote "concidering your"

Are you sure you don't mean - "considering you're"

You're, as in you are.. not your, as in your car. Never seizes to amaze me how many people fuck that up.

  • Ahh, now I fucked up.

It's a genuine typo though, not a lack of education as is the case with this dumb ass.

  • i know right? aint it a bitch that ppl might not give a shit about spelling when they dont have a stick up their butt and dont want to do their best to use proper grammer cus there not writing an essay for school. its youtube, who honestly cares? besides you didnt anser my question. but it looks like u yourself dont have the ability of a ten year old when it comes to staying on task eh?

  • If you can't read between the lines, I gave you a good cause for calling you a dumb ass, and yet you still haven't the capacity to discover what that meaning was.

Literacy is our common connection, without it we're nothing but apes with access to the internet.

    Don't be an ape.

  • Hey, Noshatch, Shut up, you have not even posted it on YouTube!

  • what does posting stuff on youtube have anything thing to do with my computer? o and by the way that was response to a question..

  • Thats nice!

The water looks very good. How did you get the water material?

  • Set RayMirror to about .1, set RayTrans on and IOR to 1.33, set Alpha to about .05, give it an almost white colour with a slight blueish-green tint, turn transhad on for all materials, and raydepth to about 4 for trans and mirror. I think ;)

  • Thanks dude

  • that is great!!

  • nice man!

  • Just curious. what video format/quality

was this file uploaded as? know everything's

downgraded a bit on youtube anyway, but your

    video looks nice quality

  • I honestly can't remember the compression settings I used. Probably the default ones in windows movie maker. But the original format was .wmv. Hope that helps.

  • Yes that does help me. Thanks for the quick

response. I like your fluid sims a lot btw.

I've been experimenting with blender physics/

fluid sims as well and hope to eventually be

doing some of the stuff from your videos.

    Keep blending.

  • Thanks, Shane. Much appreciated.

  • kewl! check out mine plz!

  • Thats very nice but compared to realism the double speed seems like normal speed and the normal speed seems to be slow motioned.

  • You're not wrong. But what I meant by double speed was a 25 fps anim played twice as fast. And it ends up looking like normal speed.

  • what do you do after baking an animation? do you have to render it? when i render it i just have a black window.

  • Yes, you have to render it. You also have to remember to set up a camera and lighting, or your render will appear black. And materials if you want it to look like water or another fluid.

  • I agree whole-heartedly

  • How long did it take to render?

  • I honestly can't remember. I'm going to get 2.44 64 bit working in Linux and do a really hi-res version with particles soon.

  • is blender hard? or is it easy like endorphin.

  • Uh, It isn't too hard to pick up, And once you get the hang of it it's easy.

  • i second that statement

  • how do you get a moving obastacle to effect the water?

  • You just set an object to obstacle in the fluid settings and animate it. I just pour the fluid over a spinning obstacle.

  • i don't get how to open it i just downladed it please tell me

  • if you dont know how to open it, there is NO Way you will know how to use blender

  • Obstacles inflow high res and how did u get the inflow to move about?

  • way to go man!

  • Wow!! I love this blender stuff... Is that for 3dsmax?

    please, answer my question... :)

  • I suggest you go to www.blender3d.org and check it out. It's not 'for' anything. It does everything for itself, like 3dsmax does. Blender is a fantastic 3d modelling, raytracing, animating, interactive, simulating piece of software :D

  • Aha.. :)

  • And it's free...

  • Blender isn't free, it is the freedom to choose.

If you use it, donate or contribute to its development.

  • Blender is free. Completely free. As is the freedom to choose whether or not to donate or contribute to it's development. Donations are never requested for blender.

  • Its awesome ...

  • ...to the max!

  • Use Blender, folks!

  • Wow! All these comments. The most I've had on one video. AND NONE FOR MY VIDEO - ALL FOR BLENDER :(

*blender's great. get it. learn it. make it.

  • no, not for 3dsmax. Its its own program all to its own

  • excellent at double speed. I think somewhere between 1x and 2x speed would be perfectly realistic. now if we just got air bubbles working... it'll always look a little like oil otherwise.

  • That's nice Maaaannn!!
