yer its werid but now they have brought out a new 650. the way to tell what engine is in it is the prefex, ie G is single cyclinder, F is 2 side by side, R is Boxer and K is inline four
Yes, both use the same engine(798 if i remember correctly) The F800GS is more or less the adventure version of the F650GS. Before they switched the the 800cc they had a true F650gs so i guess they decided to keep the name.
It´s a BMW. Only because of this, it´s a good bike.
By the way, the F650 and 800 have the same engine (yes the 650 is not anymore a 1 cyl.). The power on the 650 is slightly lower and it comes with a more "standart" setup. The 800 has many more extras.
My Friend Just collected a brand new F800 GS (in yellow and black) yesterday, seen it last night, lovely bike, and iam not rteally an enduro person, More of a Jixer and CBR fan, Nice machine though, and sounds very sweet.
they are both 800cc twin engines, the one labeled 800cc has a larger front wheel higher/more suspension travel and approx 80 bhp.
the one labeled 650 is a lower ride, the 800cc engine is detuned by approx 10 bhp and approx £1000 (us$2000) cheaper, it's labeled 650 to replace the single cylinder 650 in the market!
Hey guys, just one question..I'm thinking about buying my first bike, and I'm so in love with the this one,the 800, still the 650 is the one I've been seeing most often out in the streets, could it be that the 650 is more reliable, like a better bike or is it that the 800 is newer so fewer people know about it? thanks.
theres been a few bad reports with the 800 with regards to corrosion and electrical difficulties. I loved the bike bit it was too high for my 5'6'' frame and a bit expensive for me. I have since test rode, and settled on, the F650. Brilliant bike in my opinion
Seems to me that first gear needs to be lower than it is. From 05:36 to when they get stuck at 06:52 it appears he has to ride the clutch a lot. He wants to ride slower than first gear will allow him with the clutch released.
Just like some 4X4's have a "low range" gear leaver, perhaps motorcycles like this one needs one too?
i think he was jus riding the clutch incase he got stuck, so he could pull it in quickly and not stall. I think most off-roading situations you'll be going quicker than 5mph :)
beautiful bike, jus need my £6500, and i'm so getting one.
Ich fände es schöner wenn die GS ein Keilriemen hätte, wie die F 800 S bzw. ST dann wäre die Wartung noch simpler da man net immer die Kette nachspannen müsste....
No I used to live in Ghana, and visited Zimbabwe before Mugabe's rule had started to really ruin the beautiful country. The roads put the potholes we complain about in UK into perspective haha.
hi Tor.. which is the brand of handguards on hp2 at 07.10?
the same can be used on f 800 gs? (that i will buy at soon..)

I like the HP2 Enduro at 7:02. Thats what you should be using for that terrain, although the F800's seemed to be doing aright.
I know a guy who has an F800GS and he put an Akerprovic exhaust on it and it sounds like a super bike. Defiantly my bike of choice.

First gear sounds very high. Do they struggle in tight/steep stuff?
colindedourek 2 years ago
Loads of torque so not really a problem. You do need to slip the clutch in tight technical stuff.
maxcontinuous 2 years ago
From what iv read it is, and clutch work is necessary on the steep stuff.

Don't get how a detuned 800 is a 650. Are they just calling it a 650 but it really displaces 800cc in a milder tune ?
ratheads 2 years ago
Yes that is correct apparently. The 650 used to have 1 x 650 cc = 650 cc, now it has 2 x 400 cc = 800 cc.
Doesn't seem right that they can continue calling it the 650 does it. It just confuses everyone.

What happened around 8:00? You guys try to ride over a fallen tree or something? Just curious, not being smart.

Several deep ruts and no way around it. Zigzag over it was the solution.

If ones a 650 and ones an 800 how can they have the same engine?
laserlipz 3 years ago
they do it with cars too, they keep the old name. May say 318, but could have a 2.0 liter engine.

You can't compare either the new F650GS or the F800GS to the old F650GS thumper. They're actually the same engine, the 650 was just out first.
