I know why the torpedo teds are different speeds depending on direction. In the game, they are supposed to be underwater and the differing speeds based on direction are to give the slight illusion of water current. At least, that's my best guess.

The only difference between this level and other (equally hard) levels is that this time the author forced you to do the VIP run without midpoints. You were fine before when you took the midpoint and did a second run. Even though you could clearly skip the midpoint you took it, and then replayed the stage. And it caused you no problems. Why not stick to what works?

@GoroWannabe Basically, he explains this about halfway into the video. Going after the VIP coins isn't too far out of his way, and his problem isn't so much getting specific VIP coins but mostly finishing the level without dying, and so even if he got the midpoint he'd have to complete the level twice which in his eyes is worse than having to do get the vip coins everytime from the beginning half which has gotten more used to since he scrapped an entire vid learning the level and all.

I think the only reason this level is so hard is the same reason p-balloon segments are hard. No matter how easy the task may be, it essentially requires you don't mess up even once, ever, in the whole level. Any level in Mario games would be obnoxious if there were no such things as powerups and a single slip-up killed you.

My hypothesis to the reason why Torpedo Teds move slower when released to the left is because Mario levels are played from left to right. The intention is perhaps to not have the Teds move too fast towards the player.

@Halibut86 Eh, it's about the same as most of his VIP coin runs anyway, where he'll skip the midpoint for the same purpose. Though an impressive amount of the levels have kept that in mind in terms of where the coins/midpoints were placed, and made that unnecessary.
