i miss that x-man, oakley, ewing team. anyone remember detroit/new york in round 1 of the playoffs that year? world war iii... most physical series i've ever seen. in fact, the league implemented the flagrant foul the following season.
true knicks fans don't give a fuck if they never won a chip in the 90s. just the playoff runs and the hard work these guys played with was enough. ok, MJ and the bulls won 6 titles that decade but i dont give a shit. the KNICKS were the shit.
This is what is missing in the NBA in so many ways.A team that stays together and has a core. They never won a championship but always enjoyed seeing this team. They palyed basketball, never any team drama(only Riley issue).Only one true all-staron the team and the competed with the best the NBA has ever seen. This team was the shit.
Back than the New York Knicks were "hard nosed" tough team to beat. They represented that strong, gritty New York attitude by their style of play. I miss those days. I hope New York becomes the team the once were in the 90's.
Anyone been watching The Knicks Greatest Rivalries on MSG? Seeing Mase and Harper in the studio brings a smile to my face. The goold od days of, tough Knicks defense, and hard working players.
Mase still looks like he could pull down 12-15 boards.
If we could only put the heart of these teams into today's team, The Knicks would win a championship
@jdriscoll2000 Are you stupid?? They didn't beat them in the playoffs. Yes, they probably won some regular season games just like any other team. Come playoff time...they couldn't fuck with the Bulls. The only time the Knicks beat the Bulls in the playoffs was when MJ had retired for the first time. Ole dumbass! So, the Bulls did owned the Knicks.
the knicks out scrapped, shutdown and beat the shit out of a lot of the teams in the 90's. too bad they couldn't get rid of charles smith or beat the rockets in the finals.
These Knicks Teams of the '90s were tough defensively, and displayed more Basketball fundamentals than the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistions teams prior, who seemed to just resort to dirty tactics more often than not. Another team oozing with talent that couldn't overcome Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Without Jordan, the Bulls history and NBA history would be very different. These Knicks were very competitive teams, and they were tough guys and players individually (for the most part).
The 1990's Knicks did moer , with less, than anybody could've ever dreamed of. I wouldn't call them thugs. They were tough, gritty, intense, defensive minded players. Starks, Mason from the CBA. Oakley form a D2 school.
These guys were AWESOME! I think the 1990's Knicks are beloved because of their effort, their desire, and heart.
These guys won with "hustle and muscle" and I LOVED every minute of it. I wish they could've won 1 title, especially for Ewing and Starks. I still love these guys
I know the 1990s NY Knicks didnt win any titles but I like the 1990s Knicks more than the 1970s where they won a title. The 1990s Knicks were hard nosed players. I love seeing that streetball mentality in the NBA.
Big Knicks fan here. How were these guys thugs? We played hard defense, you came down the middle you weren't given anything for free. What's wrong with that? We weren't intentially dirty like Bad Boys in Detroit.
Now these are the New York Knicks squads i miss. the ones that didn't take no shit from anybody, the ones that were physical and brutal, the ones that will fight and brawl to their goals, unlike the soft ass Knicks of today.
NBA is all entertainment now, I hate the players characteristics too. It's like no one has heart and desire for winning like they use to. Just a bunch of lames who want to be popular, like it's high school or some shit. Not to mention how how soft the so called "superstars" are, yelling at every little love tap just to stat pad their points, and the over hyping of players is ridiculous. I grew up to this team, I'm 23 now, but I miss the 90s Knicks. But thank god Knicks are relevant now also.
This was when basketball was the shit: The Knicks playing their asses off against Jordan and the Bulls, the NBA on NBC. Now its a total joke with the pussies that now play along with ESPNs horrific coverage
i loved the knicks back then..thats why they were so fun to watch, bc their passion was electrifying..I never watch nba anymore...it totally change..the passion is not there..
It's a shame the Knicks were robbed in 1997 versus the Heat in the second round of the playoffs. The Knicks most definitely would have given the Bulls all they could handle in the Eastern Conference Finals that year and possibly could have gone on to win that series. The Knicks surely had the talent to compete for a championship and were capable of beating any team in the 90's at that time.
People give the Knicks shit but you think about the run they had in the 90's and the rivalries they had. The 3 top rivalries in the entire decade involved the Knicks. Knicks/Bulls, Knicks/Pacers & Knick/Heat. Maybe with Melo in NY the Knicks can regain the rivalries with Miami & Chicago again but damn, those Knick teams of Ewing, Oak, Mase & Starks... a day doesn't go by I don't miss that team.
@yankeefan42 mine too man, when i was a kid we would play street ball, and all my friends were trying showboat and be ballhogs like jordan's fuckin ass, I was trying to play like mason and oakley, rebounding passing and packin the shit out of those wannabees when they came to the hole. mason and oakley were my idols if players still played like that b-ball would still be fun to watch
I never thought that I'd actually yearn for the days when the Knicks would be eliminated in the semi-finals or the ECF...but I do! I just want them to become title contenders again! Nevermind winning the NBA Championship! I just want them back in the playoffs!
I agree. There's nothing like spring in NYC when the Knicks are alive and kickin. It will be good to get that back ove rthe next couple of years. The City needs it! @then0tori0us1

I am a Laker fan but as a Bball fan I am sad that NYC and MSG does not have a great team in it. Instead of tanking the last two seasons for the chance to sign LBJ (and even then they would not be contenders right away).
They should have tried to be like the 2004 Pistons or 90's knicks and get a lot of good, solid defensive and team oriented players and make it so that Amare and maybe Melo/CP3 are the FINAL pieces of the puzzle and you can then be contenders this season.
The knicks played with much passion back in the day, you have the gritty, intangibles, workman Sagittarian players (Oakley, Mason) then the passionate leadership of the Leos (Ewing, Starks).
The passion is gone overall in the nba it really has gotten to be like watching a bunch of dudes just going to work to get a check and nothing more.
@Sutekhofnj2009 blame david stern, rules harder, cant express emotion no more, thats why the passions gone and the end of the day high passion + high stakes = fights you gotta choose either the passion with the fights or the professionalism and no fights
These Knicks deserved at least 2 Titles in the 90's. Maybe they coulda gotten 3. But you know...Jordan and the bulls were there. This 90's Knicks were like 1 in a Million.
@TheAwfulWaffle00 I know it's so sad why so many great Legends in the NBA don't get that ring when Jordan and the Bulls were dominating the championship year after year. Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson was very lucky and fortunate to get theirs at the right time. I agree with you %100 the Knicks should have won at least 2 or 3 Titles in the 90's. They were so AWESOME!
Not thugs. Hard working players who didn't care how much money they made (except Ewing towards the end of his career when he wanted $15 million for one year).
