  • these drums are completely auto tuned, the hyperdrive is sick, but sounds nothing like keith's...

  • there is drums in auto-tuned crap?

  • @HardRocK96G1 agreed!!!!!

  • It's hot! It's hot on the streets!

  • i love tama's diversity

  • fuuuuuuck!! listening to jason costa on this kit, sends shivers up my spine! i could listen to him jamming all day long! ATR for the win!

  • why is it hard to find the superstar hyperdrive for sale now?

  • @xBallaFord50x Wembley and Birmingham drum centre have them in stock :))

  • Costa is about the only metal drummer I've seen that uses traditional grip

  • The first two videos are pointless. Costa is the man

  • who else doesnt give a shit what the other guy is saying compared to jason costa?

  • Comment removed

  • What color is Jason Costa's set ??? Brushed Platinum Grey or Brushed Metallic Black ??

  • @miniBonzo hes using a brushed metallic black kit

  • While the hyperdrives sound nice but I simply love my slightly deeper Superstar toms. They're so much fatter with a nice body. The hyperdrives are too dry for my taste.

  • I'm loving the sound of those toms. Very clean and poppy.

  • dont like metal drummers but jason is the best reviewer here! smart guy

  • @cptwinky69 Yep, he's one of the best drummers in today's modern metal. And the reason for his hi-hat being up high is in order to get a heavy sound, with a large amount of powers from his arms :)

  • @justinriley11 depending on how much you're willing to spend, i'd check out the sabian xs20 cymbals, they sound great!

  • What are some good, AFFORDABLE cymbals to get for my first acoustic kit.. which will be one of these babies! I was thinking Zildjian ZBT's?

  • Yeah. I have to agree, one third the price of these is just the cast hoops, there are 10. Not to mention the 2 cymbal stands and high hat stand and kick pedal are also included. You just need a throne and some A customs and you have an awesome, awesome kit.

  • This is so fucking awesome. I am not really a person whom affords an awesome kit, and I've only been able to play on cheap acoustic sets. But this one, man it's affordable! I'm so gonna get them! :D And I saw Jason play them live in december last year, they look supersweet X_X

  • ~Mason's Christmas List~

    -Tama Superstar Hyperdrive/Dark Mocha Fade

    -Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Cymbals

    -Evan's heads

    -Tama Speedcobra twin pedals

    -Promark Sticks

  • Any one know what wood they are made of? Please

  • @mayoazzzza 100% Birch.

  • @Lucchesiv8 depends on when they were made. sometime last year they switched to 100% birch.

  • is it hyperdrive custom or just hyperdrive?

  • check out my tama superstar hyperdrive

  • jason looks scary when plays mainly because of his hi hat length

  • Never saw a metal drummer play with traditional grip before.

  • How do you get that tuning??I have the exact same kit and i can't just get the tuning that right :( Please someone help me thanks

  • @1996Dalli i use the drum dial to get a good sound from my drums. its 60 bucks and works great

  • @1996Dalli I managed it, with the standard reso head and an Evans G2 on top.

You have to tune the reso head bit deeper than the batter head.

  • @apfelipod cool!! thanks for helping couldn't tune the drum kit properly

  • @1996Dalli No problem bro, took me some time as well to find out the have done that. The tuning in this movie was the main cause for me to buy this kit.

  • Great tone? Is it just me or is it the way that kind of metal drums should sound? I hear no tone at all xD

  • @Zazquatch1 yes, but YOU can tune them up higher if you want. these are very versatile.

  • JASON COSTA : Is this the BRUSHED PLATINUM GREY kit?? ( BPG)

  • wow is weird to see a metal drumming with traditional grip

  • @Juanplate00 Thats what I like about Jason. He's a perfect drummer for ATR

  • Comment removed

  • @1996Dalli Yes, the entire Superstar series in fact. Not just the Hyper Drives.

  • Comment removed

  • Well if jesus is teling me to buy them i guess i have to.

  • What heads are jason costa using? or is it the heads that come with the kit? :S

  • I got this kit early August. At first the toms scared me, but when you get the tuning right, sounds great, resonant, bright, loud, big sound outta them.

Bass drum is a beast, so loud and thunderous

    Great kit for hard rock

  • lol i want

  • Do the shallow toms affect the pitch? i want low toms.. can you still tune these to a nice low pitch without the heads getting ruined instantly when you hit them?

  • @Jippyjesusfreak i have one of these kits somewhere in my drum room. the rack toms get a better high sound. it's hard to get them tuned good low. but it's a great overall kit..

  • @Jippyjesusfreak Oh yeah. A little patients and you can get an incredable sound out of those toms. I personally dont have this kit, but a good friend of mine does, and iv jammed on it a lot. Great sounding kit all around. And the tom size doesn't effect the sound what so ever.

  • Lol, I like how they were playing This Calling in the background of Jason. Even though they recorded that song when Shannon Lucas was their drummer, who uses Tama Birch/Bubinga btw. haha

  • What does it mean to "play the pocket"?

  • @TheatreOfAwesomness It means a tight beat play to the music, like this.

    watch?v=XjZLIvq1m9U

  • I recently bought a 4-piece dark mocha fade kit, and it's great. Even with the stock heads it sounds really good :)

  • i totally agree with jason and i can see he is not lying or saying the lines just because of the endorsement.

  • die cast hoops are fucking intense

  • Jason Costa is the faster, more technical, and even louder version of Joey Jordison and doesn't need a giant set to prove it.

  • JASON COSTA IS A FUCKING BEAST!! it's cool how the kit goes from all hip-hop style to fucking ripping metal and sounds amazing for both genres

  • I got this kit. The exact one at the beginning of this vid actually.. lol. I got a drum tour in my vids. check it!

  • Im totally buying this kit...i played one and i love it...awesome for metal

  • yeah..!this-is-the-kit man..I'm really satisfied with that..

  • Im getting this same kit in a 8 piece Midnight spectrum finish I CANT WAIT!!!!!! :D

  • Nice Nice Nice!

  • Do the drums of Jason Costa really sound like that or is their sound made with computers? Because if the sound in this video is possible in real I really want them.

  • you can actually get a sound like this from about any drum.. as long as you mic it the good way in you mix it the good way ... dont forget its an promo video... they want you to buy theyr product...

  • @soadfan589, they really sound that nice. I've seen him perform live and the bass drums has such a unique sound to it like nothing else. It literally shook my skin. And the toms have great punch. They sound so good because theyre mic'ed also and fed to a computer, but not much goes on there.

  • Wow; No way a metal drummer plays trad! I'm so excited now!

  • i just love the way jason costa plays like heavy metal but he is a traditional grip player :)

  • @Danman1475 some of you guys need to check out bill ward from black sabbath >:-}

  • i just got my hyperdrive 6 peice set in dark cherry fade and after 4 hours of changing heads and tuning it sounds amazing if u play metal get the evans emad onyx bass head it sounds amazing and the small toms are great and easy to position i cant begin to say how awesome this set is buy it it wont dissipoint

  • hhmmm i am thinking my next kit in the future with hard work and spending money in nothing else:

axis pedals, tama hyperdrive, sabian and promark

  • forget axis. Get iron cobras. If you MUST have a longboard, then just go for the pearl eliminators so you can change to shortboards too.

Believe it or not, I can play faster with my iron cobra power glides than I was with axis pedals. I played on the axis' for a month, so don't think I wasn't able to get used to em. Just my input :]

  • You mean demon drives not eliminators

  • @sk8drumdie0116 yeah man, iron cobras are the way forward, iv just started using double bass and it hasnt taken me long to get the hang of it. i have tried the axis and i have to say, i personaly dont like them that much, they feel as though there not there, in someways that can be a good thing but in my opinion i wouldnt say so.

  • @danieljordison0793 Axis Pedals, Tama Hyperdrive, Paiste and Gibralter.

  • @kyliothegreat Iron Cobras, Tama Hyperdrive, Meinl, and Pro Mark

  • @danieljordison0793 don't know about the promark but everything else seems my kit but you forgot Gybraltar!

  • They do sound good.. I was skeptical at first but damn

  • These sound fucking incredible, I'm surprised how low Jason managed to tune his. Cant wait to get mine! :D

  • tama drums.....pearl demon drive pedal??jason??sounds awesome!!love the sound!!

  • kit at 1:46 is super sexy

  • "Cuts through" used to describe drum sounds is kind of redundant...unless they're being played by a weakling, any drum will "cut through"

  • i wouldnt say so.. some drums would blend in with guitars and bass's depends on what kit and what style of music your playing in.

  • well, in a mix shallower toms with more attacks are going to cut through better. if you use gigantic toms they may get lost in the mix.

  • Jason Costa rocks!

  • got this kit a month ago wasnt sure but its amazing bass and snare really cut throo and toms nice and clean however would advise new heads i have evans ec2 sounds even better

  • I'm thinking of buying one but it's going to be in my room which is small and closed in. Will they still sound pretty good?

  • thats usally an issue but if u have it facing away from the nearest wall it shud sound a lil bit better but i reccommend moving the location of it amplify it lol

  • the "cuts through" is getting annoying...

  • in my opninion its kind of senseless to put a sound example online, that is recorded with several mics and propably filtered...

  • well probably, but there are sets which sound so horrible that even having mics wouldn't work. But with experience, this set IS amazing. I mean its already really good with stock heads on.

  • @shammerHammer why? guitarists do it.

  • anyone know how much these go for?

  • depends on size of kit

    they usally range from £750 - £1350

  • nooooo man im getting one used half price for 950 and its only a six piece

  • rip off

u can get a six piece at birmingham drum centre BRAND NEW for £829

  • check musiciansfriend

  • ive bin drumming 4 9 years and ive always used pearl but i got one of these and its better than all 4 4 off my pearl drum kits ive had i recomend these drums to anyone sound really gd

  • That kit sounds sexual...

  • From all the three tama hyperdrive videos, i think jason is the most convincing one.

  • yeah cause i used to think that the toms sucked because they werent deep, but because what he said he changed my mind and now i am looking for the double bass superstar limited edition kit

  • i got one of them. great kit

  • I just use clear ambassadors on everything, even my snare. It's not as open and ringy sounding as people might think, I think they sound killer. Lots of resonance and depth.

  • he's the first metal drummer i have seen with a traditional grip

  • same here, he's killer

  • i know hay i saw him live yesterday and i was like wtf is he playn trad. grip?? but he is a fuckin beast

  • ha i play punk and a little metal and I try to play traditional but its hard to do fills

  • looks pretty cool too :D

  • he's obsessed with "cutting into everything"

  • Heyy guys,

What Batter skins do you reckon go well for the hyperdrive?

I mean I love the sound of clear emperors on them.

    Any other good ideaS?

    Evans ec2's for example?

    cheers

  • Me personally I would stick with Evans G2 over G1 but that's just my opinion.

  • What kind of sound would resonate from them skins?

What type of music do you play?

    thanks

  • A warm semi open sound its had to explain I have used that combo on my rockstar and superstar for a few years now. I play everything from metal to jazz pop to rock just about any style of music.

  • Anything with 2 plys

    But that's just me

    Maybe Some Remo Black Suedes

No clue, but you are the person who makes the sound, so do what you want

  • i use coated emporors on top and clear ambassadors on bottom and on the snare i use a diplomat on bottom and a coated powerstroke X on top and it sounds amazing for all types of music....(all from remo by the way)

  • except jazz

  • They're both good companies...but the Hyperdrive (I'm pretty sure) came out before the Ref.

(if you were a stoner "Ref" would be transferred into "Reefer")

    and yes

    ATR!!!!

  • all that remains is the best band ive ever seen and i want one of these kits!

  • It's funny how they try to compare hip-hop drummer to a metal drummer.

I admit the first guys really good but jason costa just rips him apart

  • The marketing idea here is that Tama is marketing the kit for all styles. Not just putting it in a small box for one kind of music. Tama has "had" the "metal" reputation and now you notice they are bringing on more R&B guys. You are trying to compare an apple to an orange? Doesn't work my friend. Nobody is better just different genres and and different styles. They are both good at what they play. I am not a metal player and Tama has gotten my attention recently for the first time.

  • what finish is jason's kit in on this video?

i can't tell cuz its a bit dark lol... sounds amazing tho

  • metallic black

  • Looks like the Burgundy to me! :)

  • brushed metallic burgundy

  • I think he has clear emperors on top and diplomat or ambassador as resonant

  • man keith harris his drums are amazing I'm going to buy a hyperdrive soon i think the grey pewter you see on 0:24 keith harris has remo heads = ]I reall wanna know with remo heads and how tunes them but ofcourse it will sound different because of the mics and stuf

  • jason is my fav drummer in the world..

this kit gives great tone for metal

  • jason rock. oli herbert rock too. mike martin, phil labonte and jeanne sagan too ! ATR ROCK !!!!

  • jason's kit is fuckin sic!

  • thnx

  • I cant wait till i get mine. Ill be getting the Superstar in white satin

  • Very focused

  • duz any1 hav the 13x6 snare? how is it? bright? dark? focused?

  • well, the sound is kinda focused, with high tension, but if you tune it low, you will get a warm and deep tone with a bit darkness, which is very good for some rock and stuff...

    hop i could help you!!!

    greetz

  • Is it possible to purchase that 9 piece kit that's shown at 1:44? I've been looking around, and I can't find any information on it, can anyone help me out?

  • If you stil want that drum kit I think that on Guitar Center you can get it, i hope i was helpfull seeya

  • u can order the 6 piece and just ask the sales person to get u the rest

  • if anyone finds out what heads these guys are using, keep in mind that resonants matter too.

  • which kind of heads is keith harris using??? his kit sounds sooooo freakin´ amazing!!!! OMG!!! so...can you tell?

  • Remo Clear Ambassadors! :)

  • Sounds awsome, by the way, i just cant seem to find out what heads Jason Costa is using... Can anyone help me out?

  • yeah i really wonna know as well

    its killing me
