I think no politician should receive a salary, nevermind a pension! If I'm not mistaken, politicians didn't get paid originally, they had to earn their living doing real work in some other job. When the fuck did they start the practice of making "politician" a paid position?

Sorry JixMa, It's in the constitution article 1 section 6. Give it a read sometime. But not as the founders would have viewed it today. Serving in the house, senate, presidential administration was not intended to be a career. Just compensation for their travel and troubles while serving their term. Then back to their own businesses with no strings attached.

I remember in HBO miniseries "John Adams" when Adams was in Massachusetts legislature he had 2 make his money 2 support his family from his lawyering profession. I wish that politicians got no money 4 their jobs except 4 reimbursement for travel (as U said) this way only those that truly wanted to go into politics to make a better country were attracted to it. Take money incentive out of it. Sadly, still could B bribed 2 vote certain ways tho.

If you saw the miniseries, you'll love the book. Even Adams did not care for politics, given what he said to Washington at the end of his term. But he saw it as a necessary evil. and they all hoped the people in the future would do their duty to retain liberty and freedom, (like it or not) and then return to their family's and careers under the laws they enacted.

1.How utterly bored out of his mind Adams was when he had to sit in standby mode 2 break a tie but could not participate in Senate deliberations.

2.How he was barred from sitting in on Pres Wash's cabinet meetings & had to sit outside Wash's office.

3.How weak a central govt Jefferson wanted & conversely how strong a central govt Hamilton wanted.

4.What a French asskisser Franklin was.
