It was actually two 2.5 inch pipes down the one side of the car. When you have a single turbo on a car there is only one pipe so no matter what you have to Y it into 2 if you want duals.

Mufflers are not actually required by law except for maybe Cali and a few other states that have it on the books. CATs are. I have CATs, just not mufflers... at least then. I'm actually in the process of putting on a 3 inch H and 3 inch mid pipes and glass packs right now; I moved the wastegate so have the dump pipe run down the drivers side, down pipe runs down the passenger side and the both tie into a 3 inch H pipe. I'll post a video of the new config with some sound candy eventually.

Form; and in this case, exhaust note, is a bi-product of the exhaust design for power and not actually an attempt at getting better sound. I put an 3 inch S-Type Borla on it so it's actually a bit quieter now, but it's also pushing 414 HP 478 TQ now too. Latest dyno vid is up. Hopefully I'll have track results up shortly.
My v6 is tuned up to about 270 off boost or juice....what do you think? wait for the money for the x charger that i know will come or do you think I can safely push it past 300 with nos? I already upgraded the rears so no worries about too much power...
You should be able to run a 100 shot all day long, but the problem with N2o is the torque shock. If you put in stiffer valve springs (comp cams Nissan 909s fit perfect & increase seat pressure) & run an auto or swap the T-5 for a 3650 or 6060 you could get away with a 125 shot. I'm talking RWHP shots, not the ZEX 100 or 125, which are closer to 70/95 to the tires respectively.
My motor is stock save the valve springs and pushes 386HP/480TQ. No problems yet. The key for longevity is the tune.
@jenna- I know at one point or another you've been tempted to make a gt500 driver feel about four lol. So many people think having an expensive car makes them somehow cool. ahhhh why on earth did you drop the cash for upgrading a v6 mustang??? should have just dropped the extra buck and gotten the GT! already sounds pretty close to that and plus you already start off with a relatively high power output.
Well, it was fun, and it was cheaper and is faster than a stock 2011 5.0. It was also different. It's easy to be an ass and bash on the net but most people at the track; you know, in the real world, are pretty respectful and impressed.
I must admit though, I'm almost ready to move to the coyote engine. Damn things are bad ass N/A and evil bad ass with F/I.
@forced4motorsports ive been refurbishing and tuning mustangs since i was a kid so i am no novice when it comes to the pony car. The mustang isn't meant to sound like a truck sorry. lol - it was my choice. It's faster than most stock and some modified v8s and it's been pretty fun see what kind of punishment the 4.0 can take. It also still gets pretty good gas mileage. Given the price of gas at the pump lately, it's got even more appeal now. I'm actually thinking of getting the new 3.7, as it's 10X the motor the 4.0 is with up to date technology. There are a few 2011 v6s close to the 12 NA already. I can't wait to see what a turbo will do on that motor.
@bmxfire37 aint nothin like the sound of the Ford 5.0L v8 in a mustang, sorry but no matter how much power you could pump out of that v6 will ever truly beat the classic 5.0L. At least for a die hard pny car fan.
All true Nate. The classic 5.0 is one of the best sounding engines of all time IMO. The new 5.0 isn't bad with some after market magic, but it just does not sound quite the same.

12.1 to be honest, the most recent vid posted, but I should have that sorted once I get my 60 foot down. I blew my burnouts on my last track visit this season and missed out on the 11. 1.88 60 foot just won't cut it. I actually don't have that much money into the car. The motor is stock and I fabbed the kit twice and still have less than 8K into performance mods.

I screwed up a bit on the burnout, not enough heat in the tires & ended up with a 1.88 60 foot. Look at the ET MPH; 114. That's good for 11.9X with a 1.70 60 foot. If you know anything about racing then you know what the car is capable of. Just installed a Kenny Bell BAP & upped the boost a bit. Should see 11s easily this season.
I have to admit you're spot on about the sound. With no CATs on there now, even with a muffler it sounds horrible. I'll fix that soon.

lol - Thanks, I think. I just redesigned the piping for the turbo kit and eliminated the gutted cats. Little did I know that's where the great sound actually came from. I ordered a Borla XR1 and I sure as hell hope to get some of that sound back. Who woulda thunk it that hollow cats would make a 6 sound that good.
Oh well, at least I got this video to remember it by... and hopefully coming up this weekend I'll finally have my 11 second pass.
@forced4motorsports Borla will sound much tamer at idle but when you let loose the sound will be gorgeous and from my experience if you can't get the sound you want from Borla you will never find it.....Great car man you dyno it for hp yet?
Just bought an XR-1 Sportsman. I'll be putting it on the car in a few days. I modified the turbo kit and eliminated the cats altogether and it sounds like ass. I think the cats acted like chambers and really made the sound; lowered the DB considerably. Hopefully the Borla will do the trick. They are IMO the best sounding mufflers on the market.
Dyno Vid is up on my channel. #s 386/431 but the torque is off because the tires were spinning on the roller. The older dyno vid 461TQ so I'd guess 475.
ok i have a 2005 v6 ford mustang.. recently about 4 months ago i installed a pro street dual exhaust kit (it was a single exhaust at first), so its an x pipe under it now but i would like it to make a louder throatier noise when its in idle like when im at a red light what can i do to achieve this sound?? lose the mufflers??can i install new exhausts to the kit?? install flowmasters??? any tip would help out

@LASTONEB4U Missed this - sorry. I created the turbo kit and did most of the mods myself. The only thing I did not do was the valve springs, gear swap (to 4.10s), transmission swap (when I blew up the T5) and the clutch change because I did not have a lift. I got one now so all work I need to do from this point on will be done by me. I pulled the kit from the market because I didn't like the design of the hot pipe. When revisions are finished and we go to production I'll post another reply.
I have no idea about the Roush kit. If it's made for your model year then I'm pretty sure you can.
I have no idea what exhaust shops are in your area. Why not look for one. Not really a question I can answer. I made my own exhaust.
As for the gears in the rear differential. For a street car it's better to go with 3.55s or 3.73s. The T-5 manual transmission is not very good. I changed mine to a 3650 because I blew up the T5

I bought the car with the intention of turbocharging it. At the time of purchase it was about 13K less than a GT due to mark up. Even with the supporting mods & the TR3650 transmission I'm way ahead. Beyond that the key here is cost of ownership. I have an 11 second capable (12.21@117 best) car that gets 26 MPG & is cheaper to insure.
The turbo kit was fabbed as a prototype and was eventually sold as a kit after development. It's off the market awaiting revisions. I want to make it better.

I just added headers and a catback system to my 2005 v6 mustang and left the cats and I'm running 335 horse no problem yeah with other mods of course but still my point is cutting the cats off these new mustangs is pointless ... I will be adding twin turbos to mine very soon and still be leaving the cats on ...
Turbocharged cars do not rely on back pressure and do not loose any HP or Torque when restrictions like CAT's and mufflers are removed from the exhaust path. More than enough BP is created between the motor and turbo... Granted, the car sounds like ass at WOT, but so do almost all V6s.

Thanks for the compliments but don't get too cocky. The 2011 5.0 will run high 11s with a tune, slicks and some suspension tweaks. I know my car has an 11 in it. Just need a good DA and some luck launching. :o) Hopefully I'll nail that goal this season.
@FremenLegion101 I forgot to mention that with weight reduction, all out monster aggressive tune, slicks, and one bad ass driver, the 2011 5.0 has gone a best of 10.94 N/A! YES I SAID N/A. Google 2011 5.0 in the 10s and look for the N/A video. Car is owned and tuned by Evolution Performance.
If Ford is smart; and they really seem to be with it these days, they will put a forged 5.0 in the GT500 with a little lower CR and slap the Eaton on it.
@dapopoat911 The car is already Turbocharged and I'm not sure flamethrowers add HP or I may have considered it. The car looks stock and runs low 12s. When the cooler weather hits I should be in the 11s without any changes. Plain and fast = just plain fast and that's what matters.

Fun, mostly. There are plenty of reasons why people buy them and even mod them. The first one being free will, of course. Without the 4 and 6 cylinder versions of the car the Mustang would probably not exist. I think there was only one year that the GT actually outsold the V6 and that was back in the 80s before they dropped the v6 option leaving only the I4 and V8. The 5.0 had less power than the 05-10 V6s. Hell, the 2011 V6 will take on a 05-10 4.6 with a gear swap and still get 29MPG

@randumbuller normaly i would agree thta getting the v6 is retarded, however there are alot of factors. First of all, it does sound really good. second, insurance is SOO much cheaper, and not alot of people do a v6 turbo, so its unique. not to mention its lighter and handles much better
@MrWytematter but if your trying to save on insurance, get a regal GS, its less insurance and its faster, the V8 still sounds better, and a v6 with $4 grand just for the turbo kit, not to mention the extra $4k if you want to build ur internals, you could have the GT with a bunch of bolt ons and still EAT the v6 turbo. yes the v6 weighs a tad less, but handling does not compare, the GT gets a special handling package standard.

@xowhytemagicox Research fluid dynamics. A single turbo car only has one pipe. Splitting it into two is fine as long as you go dual 3 inch, as two 2.5 inch pipes actually flow less than a single 3. That being said, you make an assumption based on a single video and no facts about the car: that it is in fact single, when it is not. I split the pipe just after the trans cross member. It is dual 2.5s due to clearance, but eventually I will put 3 inch in to get better flow & hopefully better sound.

Well, it was fun, and it was cheaper and is faster than a stock 2011 5.0. It was also different. It's easy to be an ass and bash on the net but most people at the track; you know, in the real world, are pretty respectful and impressed.
I must admit though, I'm almost ready to move to the coyote engine. Damn things are bad ass N/A and evil bad ass with F/I.

lol - it was my choice. It's faster than most stock and some modified v8s and it's been pretty fun see what kind of punishment the 4.0 can take. It also still gets pretty good gas mileage. Given the price of gas at the pump lately, it's got even more appeal now. I'm actually thinking of getting the new 3.7, as it's 10X the motor the 4.0 is with up to date technology. There are a few 2011 v6s close to the 12 NA already. I can't wait to see what a turbo will do on that motor.

12.1 to be honest, the most recent vid posted, but I should have that sorted once I get my 60 foot down. I blew my burnouts on my last track visit this season and missed out on the 11. 1.88 60 foot just won't cut it. I actually don't have that much money into the car. The motor is stock and I fabbed the kit twice and still have less than 8K into performance mods.

I screwed up a bit on the burnout, not enough heat in the tires & ended up with a 1.88 60 foot. Look at the ET MPH; 114. That's good for 11.9X with a 1.70 60 foot. If you know anything about racing then you know what the car is capable of. Just installed a Kenny Bell BAP & upped the boost a bit. Should see 11s easily this season.
I have to admit you're spot on about the sound. With no CATs on there now, even with a muffler it sounds horrible. I'll fix that soon.

lol - Thanks, I think. I just redesigned the piping for the turbo kit and eliminated the gutted cats. Little did I know that's where the great sound actually came from. I ordered a Borla XR1 and I sure as hell hope to get some of that sound back. Who woulda thunk it that hollow cats would make a 6 sound that good.
Oh well, at least I got this video to remember it by... and hopefully coming up this weekend I'll finally have my 11 second pass.

Just bought an XR-1 Sportsman. I'll be putting it on the car in a few days. I modified the turbo kit and eliminated the cats altogether and it sounds like ass. I think the cats acted like chambers and really made the sound; lowered the DB considerably. Hopefully the Borla will do the trick. They are IMO the best sounding mufflers on the market.
Dyno Vid is up on my channel. #s 386/431 but the torque is off because the tires were spinning on the roller. The older dyno vid 461TQ so I'd guess 475.

ok i have a 2005 v6 ford mustang.. recently about 4 months ago i installed a pro street dual exhaust kit (it was a single exhaust at first), so its an x pipe under it now but i would like it to make a louder throatier noise when its in idle like when im at a red light what can i do to achieve this sound?? lose the mufflers??can i install new exhausts to the kit?? install flowmasters??? any tip would help out

@LASTONEB4U Missed this - sorry. I created the turbo kit and did most of the mods myself. The only thing I did not do was the valve springs, gear swap (to 4.10s), transmission swap (when I blew up the T5) and the clutch change because I did not have a lift. I got one now so all work I need to do from this point on will be done by me. I pulled the kit from the market because I didn't like the design of the hot pipe. When revisions are finished and we go to production I'll post another reply.

I have no idea about the Roush kit. If it's made for your model year then I'm pretty sure you can.
I have no idea what exhaust shops are in your area. Why not look for one. Not really a question I can answer. I made my own exhaust.
As for the gears in the rear differential. For a street car it's better to go with 3.55s or 3.73s. The T-5 manual transmission is not very good. I changed mine to a 3650 because I blew up the T5

I bought the car with the intention of turbocharging it. At the time of purchase it was about 13K less than a GT due to mark up. Even with the supporting mods & the TR3650 transmission I'm way ahead. Beyond that the key here is cost of ownership. I have an 11 second capable (12.21@117 best) car that gets 26 MPG & is cheaper to insure.
The turbo kit was fabbed as a prototype and was eventually sold as a kit after development. It's off the market awaiting revisions. I want to make it better.

Sounds like shit .. You should have never taken the cats off you lost performance by doing so ... I just added headers and a catback system to my 2005 v6 mustang and left the cats and I'm running 335 horse no problem yeah with other mods of course but still my point is cutting the cats off these new mustangs is pointless ... I will be adding twin turbos to mine very soon and still be leaving the cats on ...

Turbocharged cars do not rely on back pressure and do not loose any HP or Torque when restrictions like CAT's and mufflers are removed from the exhaust path. More than enough BP is created between the motor and turbo... Granted, the car sounds like ass at WOT, but so do almost all V6s.

Thanks for the compliments but don't get too cocky. The 2011 5.0 will run high 11s with a tune, slicks and some suspension tweaks. I know my car has an 11 in it. Just need a good DA and some luck launching. :o) Hopefully I'll nail that goal this season.

@FremenLegion101 I forgot to mention that with weight reduction, all out monster aggressive tune, slicks, and one bad ass driver, the 2011 5.0 has gone a best of 10.94 N/A! YES I SAID N/A. Google 2011 5.0 in the 10s and look for the N/A video. Car is owned and tuned by Evolution Performance.
If Ford is smart; and they really seem to be with it these days, they will put a forged 5.0 in the GT500 with a little lower CR and slap the Eaton on it.

@dapopoat911 The car is already Turbocharged and I'm not sure flamethrowers add HP or I may have considered it. The car looks stock and runs low 12s. When the cooler weather hits I should be in the 11s without any changes. Plain and fast = just plain fast and that's what matters.

Fun, mostly. There are plenty of reasons why people buy them and even mod them. The first one being free will, of course. Without the 4 and 6 cylinder versions of the car the Mustang would probably not exist. I think there was only one year that the GT actually outsold the V6 and that was back in the 80s before they dropped the v6 option leaving only the I4 and V8. The 5.0 had less power than the 05-10 V6s. Hell, the 2011 V6 will take on a 05-10 4.6 with a gear swap and still get 29MPG

@MrWytematter but if your trying to save on insurance, get a regal GS, its less insurance and its faster, the V8 still sounds better, and a v6 with $4 grand just for the turbo kit, not to mention the extra $4k if you want to build ur internals, you could have the GT with a bunch of bolt ons and still EAT the v6 turbo. yes the v6 weighs a tad less, but handling does not compare, the GT gets a special handling package standard.

@xowhytemagicox Research fluid dynamics. A single turbo car only has one pipe. Splitting it into two is fine as long as you go dual 3 inch, as two 2.5 inch pipes actually flow less than a single 3. That being said, you make an assumption based on a single video and no facts about the car: that it is in fact single, when it is not. I split the pipe just after the trans cross member. It is dual 2.5s due to clearance, but eventually I will put 3 inch in to get better flow & hopefully better sound.
