  • Mp is dumb. This is brilliant

  • ok Hybrid.... but we love FULL ELECTRIC CARS !

  • Tesla Motors would have much better range if they got rid of their pesky drive shafts.

  • Very short and incomplete video. It doesn't say much about the combustion or electric engines. The range? performance? battery lifespan?

The connector for charging on this is a joke. You cant fast charge with a standard outlet, it's only 10A.

Why doesn't Volvo have wheelmotors on the C30 EV also?

I think Volvo should work with Electroengine, who has the best powertrains today.

  • Comment removed

  • Generating electricity produced by thermo-electric or nuclear power plant, does not help the car be electric.

First it must be the best wind energy production.

  • He doesn't look very Swedish...

  • Was this guy trained to speak with his mouth closed?

  • if your worried about head on safety then put engine in middle and put giant springs under hood and in the trunk. BTW include a charging port front and rear.

  • how do you get heat when it's cold?

  • ethanol is better if you don't want to buy a new car

  • Браво на днешно време трябва да се разработват колкото се може повече ел. автомобили ,за да опазим нашата планета :)

  • I hate his mouth.

  • BUUUULSHIIIIT

  • we'll not be driving IC engined cars 50 years from now. I dont know what will power them, but im certain it wont be gasoline, diesel, or bio-diesel. Eventually, IC engines will be phased out, and some other energy source will be used to power ground-based vehicles. The sooner we transition to new automotive energies, the better. Im guessing in 25 years you wont even be able to license a car with IC engines. You'll need a special permit to own one, and theyll be banned from street use.

  • will make a difference in the long run. Until you or anyone else can provide proof that cars, airplanes, and coal-fired power plant emissions are significantly contributing to the climate change, I personally couldn't care less whether car makers are going electric. If anything, the government should be putting more money into heavier regulation of oil rigs from now on so that future oil spills can be prevented.

  • Obviously oil spills are something that will inevitably happen from time to time when we rely on oil badly. The fact of the matter is, there may be evidence pointing to a shift in climate change now, but scientists are so left and right on the subject of global warming that it's just a matter of which bandwagon you jump on. And since there's no definitive evidence of human-caused global warming (i.e., by CO2 emissions), who are you or any1 else to say that 10 million electric cars on the road

  • @pianoman469 this must be a joke dont get mad when i say you must be brainwashed or something u really believe that make a lil research and get ur facts straight spreading those misinformation I honestly doubt that u know anything about science remember what u told me before using half of my brain i think u use 1,2% if u really believe what u write.. you must be kidding human dont cause climate change how old are you nine???? learn and come back talking to me.. man i have better stuff to do

  • @asdf12831 Actually, I'm sure I do know a thing or two about science, seeing as I'm a junior biology/chemistry major in college. Sorry you got so defensive (or should I say, offensive) towards my comments about humans not causing global warming-- or maybe, like most of what you write, I misinterpret your statements completely. Nonetheless, you should not be criticizing my beliefs about global warming so strongly; if you're a scientist who thinks he knows everything, then how about

  • @asdf12831 you publish your 'findings' and tell the scientific community that climate change is caused by humans. Or maybe you haven't heard about all the scientists who formerly supported man-made global warming who have recently come out and rejected that notion completely? OF the two of us, you seem t be the only one in need of doing some 'research' if you so adamantly believe that humans are the primary factor in 'global warming' (I put it in quotes because I don't believe in it).

  • ...I will invent a car that runs solely on positive thinking... you all just wait!

  • @ericn89 ok then i will invent an airplane running with depression :-)

  • @asdf12831 What's this? competition? I will have you know i plan to release my vehicle in 2020! i hope you are ready!

  • why not dispense with the petrol motor entirely, replace with batteries, or storage space, or nothing, and tack on a lot more range...

  • Why none of these evs do not recharge energy while the wheel is spining instead of breaking? I don't know, maybe by using generators to generate energy while the wheel is spinning and recharging the batteries...

  • @19ultima88 I was wondering the same kind of thing. I thought it would be cool to have some sort of wind powered generator in the grill... But my guess is it wouldn't be efficient enough or something, it seems like something most modern engineers would have considered...

  • I'd rather ride a gas guzzling, oil staining, smoke billowing, eardrum destroying internal cobustion engine than riding that ugly piece of contraption. Nothing beats the sound of the RAW power of controlled explosions BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM fuck polar bears

  • @toastyovens if everybody think the same like u we are fucked its not just the polar bears and penguins who will suffer it will be ur grandchildren when the average degree of the earth is about 120 fahrenheit.. then i will see u enjoying ur ottomotor.. im 1000% sure in the future when electric cars are common ppl will laugh about the old gasmotors look at those stinky things they drove it is like old dress from the 60s.. it will be like a bluray compared to a video cassette ZZZ,ZZZ,ZZZ ;-)

  • thank goodness. its date has been pushed up, a test fleet is in the US, EUROPE and CHINA already. id bet its on the road by 2013, if all goes well.

  • The future is not "electric"............ Electricity requires coal, which translates to CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants every time you plug in something (that includes your electric cars). Perhaps you can say that if power is completely nuclear in the next 5-10 years.

  • @pianoman469 HAHAHA and u think nuclear is better than coal???? u dont watch the simpsons i suppose lol u must be kidding they are both very bad.. however there are a lot of ways to produce electricity like sun energy.. there is enough sun in the deserts in africa and in america to generate clean electricity for the whole world.. nooo we must use oil cause nobody really complain oil industries can keep messin up the environment killing lifes and make more money.. this is sad truth

  • @asdf12831 Sorry, maybe I'm just tired (it is a bit late right now), but I honestly think 90% of that comment is you trying to make a logical comment while drunk--or maybe that terrible grammar is how you always attempt to make coherent statements? If so, you should reconsider typing while using more than half your brainpower next time :D But yeah, obviously solar power is best (the amount of sun hitting earth in 1 hour provides more energy than the entire earth uses in a year, apparently).

  • @pianoman469 And Solar Power is RENEWABLE and CLEAN energy. So again, for all you touting the idea of "electric cars being the future," you're unfortunately wrong. It may be the future of just having to plug in your car and not have the guilt effect of emitting CO2 directly from the tailpipes, but sadly, it takes more energy/natural resources/emits just as much CO2 to make one of these "electric cars" and charge it than it does to own a non-electric car for a lifetime, according to studies.

  • @pianoman469 IOI thanks you are funny :-) im always trying to improve my INGLISH :-) but don’t let my grammar distract u.. so you're aggreeing that sun energy is more than enough to create electric power and you say that the overall CO2 emission does not really decrease when we use electric cars.. hmmm maybe that is true but at least I think, in crowded regions like citycenters the CO2 Emission will drop to almost ZERO.. which is indeed a reasonable CO2 dislocation to maybe more green regions

  • @asdf12831 you implied before that nuclear energy is better than coal but in my opinion nuclear energy is worse than coal especially in the long run.. and we all know what in tschernobyl happened and the remaing aftereffects to the ppl are the worse.. so nuclear is bad too

it is the fault(up to90%) of the industrial(US and Europe) countries that pollution rised and the new industrial countries(china russia) wont change that attitude too.. cant we just think for once about the environment

  • @asdf12831 Im pretty sure humans will be the only species on the world who will cause their own complete exctinction..dinosaurs at least were supprised by meteorites.. we are walking, no RUNNING towards the cliff with our ignorance..

  • @asdf12831

what u think what should happen to the responsibles from BP?? (meaning the gulf incident) Should they be punished? Or all we all responsible for this huge damage to nature …

its not only the CO2 Emission my friend you should also take into account the incidents meaning the Oil accidents on seas and manymany other bad stuff which is connected with oil (just implying something e.g. unnecessary wars ;-) so finger away from oil and tendency to electric is indeed a must!

  • Look ! A Chinese Viking!!!

  • why he cant close his lips?

never knew that volvo is from asian company

  • @stupidYOOTUBE ti's european

  • @viperxraptor2001 ti's swedish, don't anyone dare forget it.

  • @Dassboyon just pointed out to that guy that it was European. given that Sweden is in Europe, thanks for reinforcing my statement.

  • this guy reminds me of kenjohnill

  • 62 miles! That's it?

My EV Converted truck did 195miles @ 65mph!

Now where Converting a Porsche 944 to a Hybrid cause the motors in the Fuel motors in front...Trans-axle is in the rear, and range on paper is about 924miles w/ the 21 gallon tank! Testing will tell a true 44MPG! with the stock 2.5L motor @ 1800PRM's. So why is all the new EV and Hybrid car all the big hype? Same reason I pulled all my stock out of GM in 2005!

  • @bigbirdh2 Because Ferdinand Porsche BUILT a SIMILAR VEHICLE in 1900 for the Emperor of Austria... just wait it'll have a range of 1600 kilometers SOON!!!!

  • Volvo is dead...

    Its sold to the Chinese

  • you can tell this guy pays for hookers to piss on him.

  • lol

  • this comment made me smile, thank you melbournaut

  • @melbournaut That is one of the best comments ive ever seen. YOU ROCK

  • so u gona spend 2 cents per mile for electricity... and after 60 miles u gona spend 13 cents per mile or more for gasoline 1,6 litter generator... so tht makes no sence... ur gona save 120 cents for the first 60 miles lol and then its same thing if u driving a corolla man this shit is EPIC FAIL

  • Get your head outside of the cube man!

  • You're a moron. Most people travel 60 miles or less in a day.. then they RECHARGE it at HOME. The 1.6 engine only recharges on the fly if you run out of power on long journeys. Fuck it, you are too stupid to understand.

  • ye n wat about cost of the car i doubt its gona cost u 20 grand... prob around 30-45k n u dont have heater unless the motor runs, n prob same for AC.... also stealin the electric motors will be as easy as stealing someones rims... and again thats why i think they FAIL

  • Agreed on the cost.. they will be too expensive to start with, but due to simplicty in design, once they get more popular I think they could get even cheaper than petrol cars. Running costs such as Oil, Petrol, Filters, Grease, Services etc. will be almost gone saving you a lot anyhow.

Interesting point about being abole to steal the motors.. hmm

  • your an idiot

  • The car of the future- are the ones students are designing in classes today. And thus will completely, endeavour the 'old mans' who think they run the shows. Telling you, you can't? Have 4 hubs, then turn them off, and reverse the idea in just 2 hubs, and have the remaining hubs, the effeicecy does run out. But it prolongs. We sure do want to turn on that gas engine don't we. dumbasses. Get over it. Other then snow, and staying warm in your car. Gas is over. Very soon.

    Trust that you know truth

  • cars of the future run on water.

  • OK SHIT HEADS. they do it with gasoline. cut 4 or more cylinders to save power. so you can push the damn car with less then what you think you can. IDIOTS

  • vaporware

  • I thought this idea was scrapped due to issues with unsprung weight.

  • give me an electric car that can do 80mph and have a 250 mile range without charging,,,,and you got a deal body

  • if you are interested in an electric car with a 300 mile range check out Tesla motors.

  • 2015 .... y are they wating so long

  • they should put solar panals on top of this car like the prius and use the extra power to run the radio and ac

  • @miniborgs12

There may be enough solar panel area to power the radio (no subwoofers), but the A/C.... need much more area.

The solar panels are good for offsetting standby power used by the electronics to prevent battery discharge... when the car is parked.

  • Also, once the car is in a particular momentum and optimal acceleration of momentum, the front wheels may disengage, "RPMing" a gear ratio that effecient enough at the given optimal momentum and acceleration of momentum. .

  • Ugobbi, your an idiot.

Please Review Einstiens theory of electro-dynamics of moving bodies. . . .

You can increase the range with a slight gear ratio twit.

My conceited understandings of Nature and Principles far exceeds your conceited intellect.

  • prove wgat you said with a video...

    simple???

    be quiet...

  • I say use the rears to propell, Use the forwards to charge as you drive. Effifecency

  • making the front wheel recharge, you`ll increase the energy spent by the rear motors to move the car... that kills efficency... people... this is phisics, not magic....

  • Your an idiot.

  • and your an ape...

if you cant discuss properly, just stay quiet...

    so... be quiet .

  • i know what you are trying to say... i saw that concept before i forget which manufacterer it was... the only thing i remember that the made a hybrid car which they put the small engine in the rear wheel that drives the car and the generator is connected to the front wheel which charge the li-ion battery... and when the battery is full you can switch to the battery drive mode. the front wheel is drived by a electric motor. But that was not totally an efficienct idea, thats why others reject it.

  • why cant they just use the wheels as an generator to charge the batteries?....

  • did you NOT watch the movie?

  • i watched it...the question is did u ...im sure he said the wheels are drivin by 4 motors...im saying why not use the wheels as a generator to recharge its batteries...2 wheel motors 2 wheel generators never ending power as long as the wheels are turning

  • ment to add that if it worked like i said there would be no need for a gas motor or a plugin the car could run forever it makes its own power

  • It's not a bad question dude. Wouldn't work for this vehicle design, but at least your thinking outside the box. That would work perfectly in conjunction with an HHO system. people always complain about there not being enough electricity from the alternator to electrolyze the water AND power the rest of the car. Laws of thermodynamics and what not. Simple problem to solve in my opinion. Keep thinking outside the box Dude

  • looks like they hired a japanese engineer to develop a hybrid for volvo

  • Aw. Dont be mean haha. Im sure he just puts a face thats MISMATCHED to a European company hahaha

  • Ehrm, im sure that Volvo has all kind of nationalities in their staff... Its a biiiiig company you know.... Im pretty sure it would be impossible to only have Swedes emplyed, not to mentioned how boring and sad it would be without diversity..

  • was thinking of getting a Toyota Prius in 2009, there will be a new model in 2010 so holding back & waiting. Volvo's Hybred looks good, if Volvo could introduce it earlier perhaps 2010, will be getting it instead of Toyota Prius..

  • 2015!!!!! Way too late! Toyota will own the market by then!

  • Lol kettle lead.

But seruisouly if yor gonna spend that money and want to go 160km/hour top speed you might as well wait for a fully independent hybrid, think of the praticallity!!!!!

  • THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC !

  • just like we put stuff in spanish also for no apparent reason, it would be nice if they interpreted the metric system into the english system for THE LARGEST CAR MARKET IN THE WORLD, the good old u.s.a.. i have no idea what the specs mean in metric.

  • You put stuff in Spanish because 30 percent of the people are of that origin. Many items on american cars are designed in metric system. Very soon US won*t be biggest anything. Asian markets will outgrow you. So wake up. Admitting to lack of knowledge of the metric system is like admitting idiocy.

  • did you read my statement at all? regardless of what's going on overseas, U.S. is still the largest car market in the world.

it's like the n.y. n.y. song, if you can make it here you can make it anywhere.

but god forbid anyone actually supports america after 8 years of bushism.

  • Nice car. that will be over $50,000.

  • hhaha at first it might be....i think it will be cheaper and cheaper...

  • what about the big engine which is there to charge the batteries? 1.6 litre. they also don't seem keen to bring this car to the market soon anyway.

  • i can honestly say that untill he said 2015 i was acualy excited

  • @voyager1985 if u keep in mind that electromotors were invented more than 120 years ago wow what an invention that car is.. cell phones and computers however were spreaded instantly because its easy money

this is just capitalism like always there are a lot of moneyhungry outthere ppl who dont want that electromotors to come

western countries and big industries always keep following making profits never thinking about the environment when they introduce new products.. who will pay the price

  • @voyager1985 that 2015 is getting very close!

  • @voyager1985 lol just say fuck you volvo and hello tesla motors >>

  • The thing I do not understand is why we need a petrol engine while you want to make a hybrid cars. The battery can be kept always charged. simple we need a dynamo which generates energy while the car is driven. Thenwe get two option. Run the car with the generated energy itself or recharge the battery and use the power from battery. This way the car doesn;t need a petrol engine and run unlimited miles without charging or running wit gas.

  • Learn some physics

  • thanks while i do study physics at cambridge. And it is possible to do so. And there are technologies that have been developed and prooven butthe world governing b=odies do not want it to happen due to the fear of economic disaster. The world economic is depend upon the gas. But the process of alternative to gas has slowly starting.

    cheers

  • ya you know no matter how hard you try the car is going to run of of power eventually. When that happens you are going to need to recharge it. That is why the combustion engine is there. It does not drive to wheels directly it only generates energy for the battery. It only runs when it is needed.

  • In that case the car has the battery which is can be used to start the car. Its basically the loop ideology. whne the car runs it generates its own energy, charges the battery as well as runs with its own power.

*****By the eway this car is not economic friendly at all. just the concept. It give 40 miles per gallon, which 1.6 vw diesel gives the same mileage. In additional the car is not manufacture from the recyling products, and cannot be recycled. It is just the bussiness, fooling people. xxx

  • so energy will not be lost to heat, friction, and air resistance. That is impossible to do, the is no system in nature or man made that will not lose energy in any form. I get the loop Idea but even so the car is still losing energy to other factors like the heat generated by moving parts and the resistance buy friction. You need away to regain that energy lost, and right now there is not system that does that.

  • Do you know what the law of the conservation of energy states?

  • we need something today.. where's my flying car....?

  • There are so many more electric vehicle options than Tesla, go visit EVtransPortal (dot com) there are over 850 links to electric vehicle manufacturer websites, suppliers, conversion companies, EV discussion groups world wide.

  • And in those last few words this entire video went downt he shitter. Don't worry volvo other car company's will have sold thousands of electric cars by then. You guys can just be the last horse that crosses the finish line.

  • 2015?! We will be dead by then!!

  • Yeah i think you're right, at the very least we'll be either rounded up in concentration camps or dead from a limited nuclear exchange and the aftermath. 1/3rd of the global population will be wiped out immediately.

  • volvo's are sexy cars...this one is no exception.

  • Interesting...how is it that the US is SSSOOOO far behind on technology. Phones, cars, computers. All we get are marketing plans or service tiers not technology. Keep waving your flag, screaming patriot patriot!!

  • Actually GM and General Electric Tested a Hybrid similar to this in 1979 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway....the only reason this never made it to market because of BIG OIL

  • Yes we've had electric cars before can we blame big oil totally for them not being sold? Uummn not really my neighbor just bought an SUV thingie, this weighs 5700+ lbs. Gets 22 highway and 17-18 city mpg. Its a 2007. They keep making them because we keep buying them. Wait till gas hits $8 agallon.

  • Everyone above me has a point.

It´s good to know that i am not alone about thinking like you. Even though this car looks promising, i am very sure it will never be sold.

Due to the above mentioned reason: Oil, and money... You americans can be proud! No problem, Wave your flag for Tesla motors!

If you dont know about the Tesla roadster then you better search for it fast! 0-60 in 4 secs!

  • this car does have a combustion engine. The engine though is only used to charged the batter when it is needed so it will still run on gas, diesel or some other combustible fuel, it will just need alot less.
