@Bruceleekungfoo Technically only Carlos Gracie, Sr. was their uncle, not Helio. They do refer to Helio as "uncle Helio", but he really wasn't. They're mother's sister Layr, was Carlos' last wife and the mother of Carlos Jr., Karla, Crolin, Reila, Rilion, and Kirla. So biologically the Machado's are related to the latter 6 Gracies and their kids. But being so close to them, I can understand why they refer to Helio as their uncle or the other non-blood related Gracies as their cousins.

@barrettokarate .. Not true. I have been fortunate to have been around the family for 15 years and have seen interactions between all the family members. Tell someone like Rigan who was there along with his brothers that they were only related to Uncle Carlos. He'll tell you different. I believe what matters most is the Machados along with their Gracie cousins are pioneers in the art also.
