Awesome. Up to 1974 everything they did was awesome. Although they produced some good stuff after their 3 year break 75-77 it never peaked like it did in the early seventies. ELP is very much tied with the 1970-1974 era. Interested ppl should check the pre-ELP band The Nice. Emerson did pull off some a-mazing keyboard stuff with that (much more jazzy) band. Cheers, Max
ELP was the first real successful band to showcase the keyboard as the forefront of the band during a time when guitar bands reigned. They were the first to use a modular Moog synthesizer on stage during a live performance. They were the first to use synthesizer percussion. They are one of the few 3 man bands. They were by far the most technically proficient musicians of their day. The fact that you do not see many people able to mimic ELP is fact that their music is so advanced.
I discovered ELP about 5 months ago. I am seventeen, but I am still really into the genre that they play. I have their Debut vinyl, Tarkus, and Brain salad surgery on vinyl. I also have Block moon on the original CD.
