  • just ride the bike dude.

  • Excellent descending. I did this a few years ago and the corner you stopped on I went into it way too fast and swung wide out onto the other side of the road, luckily nothing was coming the other way at the time!

  • @nicemandan Yeah, careful with that. I did the same recently on a blind corner and slid into a truck. Tacoed wheel, bent RD hanger, bent chainring, bent saddle, and a wallet sized area of skin missing from my ass. And that was with the truck stopping before he ran me over. :0

  • @hagenar

    Ooo nasty!

  • I wonder how many races have been decided on that mountain? Also if you really want to impress try riding down it on a fixed gear without slowing down, just let it spin out.

  • balls of fucking steel jesus christ

  • Risk @ 5:13 lol

  • Risk @ 4:34 lol

  • A. How far was this journey? B. What was the top speed? I don't even go a third of this speed!

  • @eXPerienceyeah

It's about 15k at an average of 8.5%. This was my first proper mountain descent. You drop like a stone - no pedaling required. I got up to around 60kph, but I was on the breaks a lot, both out of fear and because there's a lot of hairpin bends. I also had cheap tyres on my bike and the rims got so hot by the time I was halfway down, the back tyre melted and split - I kid you not! I bought Michelin Pro Race tyres and tried it again the next day!

  • when is seed this video for the first time i thought: why the hell am i born in a fucking flat country and am i not riding down this amazing mountain.

    max from the netherlands

  • Alpe d'Huez has the longest back run in europe at 16 km long making it a 2210 vertical drop :)

  • Nice one Spike. Brings back great memories of flying down l'Alpe d'Huez when I followed the Tour de France on my bike in 1984. Only problem was I had to ride up it with panniers on. Aaargh!

  • Legend!

  • He is on a motorbike, not a bicycle.

  • There are too much pussies in this world when I read some comments. That was a fantastic descent!!

  • Two things. The roads in France are fantastic, and there's nothing like the feeling when you pull out and overtake a car because it's going too slow.

  • Good. Pay no attention to the critics. Push it dude. You live once.

  • amen to that

  • yes I agree...much better to ensure the severe injury of one person than the possible injury of several.

    you're an asshole paednoch

  • Dude, were you tucking during the descent? With 21 turns, it would be way too dangerous to tuck.

  • Great video, shame about the traffic!! I've never gone down it, tbh im a shit descender, but been up it a few times, 54' 37" is my best. Im going up Ventoux this year for the first time, cannot wait!!

  • YOu must burn some calories going up that hill. What's the grade %?

  • it hast an average of 8% passages with up to 12% and a total height difference of 1100 meters :)

just read it, otherwuse í couldn't tell

  • that makes me want to go there so much!

  • Amstrong is on the vidéo : "dans la veine" ( I AM STRONG).

    good good good

    juju

  • Thanks for posting, I was going to head up there on my touring bike but I think I'll forget it. Saw through a set of brake pads for a mediocre view. Who can look at the view at that speed anyways? Lol.

  • would love to ride both ways on alp.but would also love to ride offroad as well as i do not have a road bike.great vid!!

  • When were you there? For the TDF? There seemed to be some trailers there. (or is it really popular year round)lol

  • dude...just stfu its a sick vid ur just jealous cuz u cant ride and u suck balls omg! im like totally putting people in danger with my harmful words, im kind of like a snowboarder who doesn't care about other ppl omg! FK OFF!

  • I think you could've put it a bit more subtle, but i agree with your views.

going up is more fun anyway

  • Hold up, ok so if ur going to say his putting the other cyclist endanger in the other lane, what about the cars cutting into the oncoming lane to pass other cyclist? Thats the same thing as what ur saying, does that mean there idiots as well?

  • good memories (of going down anyway) thanks

  • fantastic.

what was your top speed on the descent

  • I enjoy coming down there on my Ducati 907 as well as my racing bike

  • Right, now fucking back up the way you came!

  • haha yer mate lol

  • Can you do the same thing going up?

  • Thats not really Dangerous - at the arive of Tour de France are Trucks, more Cars and People on the street and they descend with the same Speed!

  • Great video!!!

Someday i'll be there doing the same thing...

  • you're a skilled downhill rider... did you make the climb in under 1h?

  • that is madness...

  • nice, looks dangerous

  • Wow, so fattie can go down fast, how about you go up in quick time, burgerman?

  • hi im thin so am not biased here. Guess what .a car exists. and he can lose the weight but you will forever be a twat

  • vive le tour!

  • awesome, though you should work on your apexes better, you can go much faster if you do

descending is so much fun i like it better than going up lol

  • I saw that too. He made some errors diving in on curves too early, and had to adjust through the turn.

I'm not saying I don't make the same mistakes, but we can all learn to be better riders.

  • Nice vid. I realy want to try the alpe d'huez climb. Like the overtaking of cars!

  • Der SpikeTurner, es war echt cool mit Dir dieses Jahr zu fahren, besonders am Ring! Ich hoffe ich werde schnell fit und dann wird es nächstes Jahr wieder richtig gut! Grüße aus dem Westerwald Tim

  • yea your going pretty darn fast, but how do you get your camera so still, mine shakes everywhere

  • Great fun, takes me back to our ascents and descents last year. Must do it again sometime..... Thanks

  • wow

i grew up in NC usa i rode up mount mitchell which is the higest peak of the miss..6684 feet, i rode up it and then down it..i hi 56 MPH down it and i was like 150 then..im 185 now..would love to do it agian..not the climbing the decending lol!:)

  • brilliant - let's replace all those polluters w/ bikes ;^)

  • Brilliant! Really enjoyed that! Almost as entertaining as watching Pantani go up the other way! Great video though!!! Love the bit at the end when you come across a dustcart!!!! So random!

  • Are you cycling?

  • Fantastic....I love this place...only ever gone up and down these roads on a coach though!!

  • very nice, i wanna go there and ride myself

  • Obergeil!!!!

Thank you Spike for your inspiration;o)

    Greetz from Germany

  • Fcuking amazing descending Spikey! I'm giving d'huez - a legendary climb in every sense of the word - a go this european summer. Can't bloody wait! - Andy, from Sydney Australia :)

  • wow, far journey. That´s enthusiasm. But only l'alpe d'huez? Which other passes are you going to ride? I warmly recommend....puh, hard question...every alpine pass ;--)

  • @SpikeTurner exteremely painful but totally worth it

  • Fantastic! Great Bike Handling Skills. Enjoyed watching this!

  • always good to see a bike overtaking a car :)

  • very nicely done! I'm frothing at the mouth now to get myself to Europe this fall. thanks!

  • very nice, fast too.

  • Wow, you must have hit the mid 50s mph there

  • Nice descending ! Is there a second part - you've not finished the hill there I think !

  • second part is coming

  • I rode this [both directions] in 2002. Your descending skills are great and the ride IS awesome! Thanks for the memories...=NYC
