Already accomplished! Check our other videos - you'll find one of me haphazardly guiding Mario with a semi-functional gamepad, along with about 4800 guys informing me that I suck at Mario Kart.
@WDPlumbing Oddly, you don't really notice after a few minutes. Huge bright lights are annoying, sure, but even so it doesn't seem to affect motion perception. We're playing around with a version that has a 55" 3D LCD/LED screen, and despite covering more of your view area, it's almost with reflections on the supershiny screen. With the 3D on and a dark environment, though... that plus iRacing = literal confusion between reality and fantasy. It's uncanny. And fricking awesome, too!
Then the reaction of the simulator will be inversely proportional to the level of intelligence posed in your question (that means it will do HEAPS of stuff, in case you need help figuring it out...). Then again, this is the utube comment section, so I guess your poor little question should feel right at home.
@MrSpadnium lol are you really criticizing a youtube comment? just because you cant comprehend my question does not mean you need to criticize it. or maybe you are the kid on multiplayer that totally rages when someone does not "play the game right"...
@Kopihucky Well, there's probably at least $1k in wiring and cables, closer to $2k if you include the extenders / converters etc. The screens are a few hundred a pop. So you just need the servo controller, the seat, the sound system, the custom interface boards, the frame, the motors, the ball screws and struts, the floor, a whole bunch of other stuff that won't fit in this comment, and two high-end computers, for $100 or so.
@halcyon503 Unfortunately there's quite a bit of misinformation about pricing out there, and Gizmodo isn't correct either.
At the moment, we aren't listing our prices publicly. Part of the problem is that rapidly changing features, exchange rates, material costs, shipping costs, etc, can render pricing outdated by the time you hit 'upload'. So you have wrong prices floating around. In the event, it (obviously) seems that will happen regardless, so we may list prices anyway.
Probably if you need to ask you cant afford it. Wondering if there is some way to incorporate into the design some way to make the seat rig move forward and backwards so the person can be transitioned from in-front to behind the centre of rotation, when you go from under-steer to over-steer you can feel this change and that feel helps you hold the car in position needed, Hope this makes sense. Would love to have one of these

at the spinning end of the video it looks like the rotation wasn't 1:1 synced with the movement on the screen cause the sign shows up at different parts of the rotation instead of the same place.. can u do something about that?
@AntDX316 It was pretty close, but not perfect. There's just a slider in the control software, to be honest; we hadn't slid it to just the right place. I could have calculated it via steps/encoder count, motor:gearbox ratio, gearbox:drive wheel ratio, and drive wheel:theta axis ratio. But there was a lot going on so I just eyeballed it. You could get it quite accurate if you wanted to.
@AntDX316 For a drift, most likely yes; for very high speed transients (rotating when you hit the wall, a fast tank-slapper) you can lose 1:1. In those situations, though, 'the ship has already sailed', and 1:1 becomes less important.
@fdynamics so it can be 1:1 with everything that doesn't involve a crash? going over a chicane at any speed it would accelerate to read it 1:1 no delay?
how much does this sucker cost? cause i only have 2 arms and legs and the brochure doesnt seem to show it takes mental telepathy as input... since i'll need to sell all my limbs to buy this thing lol
when he does the spin at the end, watch the overhead camera and see how the objects in the background move at exactly the same speed as what's on screen. That is some incredibly impressive tech.
One of these days I have got to try this out. Look at this : "Tag Systems TS8000 Real Car Simulator" watch?v=FQtoeeasOfI <---- LOL!! They need to ditch that idea and buy a 401CR. Too bad 401cr won't work with GT5.. or will it? Would you need to hack a PS3 and GT5 code to get it to work?
@necroflux It's all about things being relative to the user. The surroundings going up and down is purely down to the rendering within the game itself. As the car goes over a bump or in fact turns the horizon visible on the screens will still shift in a normal manner.
On a serious note though this is a great improvement over the previous models. Seriously impressed. Would the yaw effect feel better if the axis in which it rotates was in front of the user? Say more like under the screens? I'd imagine the increased stress on other parts would make this more difficult?
Looks incredible! My only thoughts: Wouldn't it make more sense for the monitors to be outside of the vertical movement apparatus? When you're driving in real life the road/surroundings don't move up and down with the car as it bounces. Why not attach the monitors to the outer swiveling portion? Also the horizontal movement speed doesn't look like it would be able to reach the 1+ g's race drivers feel, how many g's does one feel from 120 degrees per second of rotation?
Does the CR have the same capabilities in terms of speed/responsiveness as the 401? It seems as though the yaw rate is quicker in the 401... that might just be the video I saw though.
Yeah, it does. It's exactly the same system, aside from the slip ring and on-board computers. The difference you're seeing is probably a combination of platform tuning, vehicles used, driving style, and camera angle. If you're comparing with the first 401 video, driving style is probably a lot of it - I was deliberately sliding all over the place; in this video I'm generally keeping it stuck to the pavement.
I do not know how much does it cost exactly, but if you say it is expnsive you are right, if you say you rather buy a rally car, you might be wrong. To operate, maintaine a car (fuel, transport, insurance, tyres, etc)is way more expensive and than you are on the wrong track. Buy a car and race and right on the first test drive the carwill be more expensive (even if you do not crash it). For training purposes I am sure this is the right choice!
If I had an extra $52,000. laying around to spend on a simulator. Looks like the Playseat G27WRC edition will go in my basement... Oh yah that thing is F'n killer....
Man, we had a perfect record going until -you- came along! :)
As to your post: It's far from painful. It looks more chaotic on the outside than it feels on the inside (unless you crash, obviously). Even though they're fairly big motions, they generally aren't abrupt ones. It's no more painful than driving a go-kart would be.
And as far as headaches go, it's unlikely. Motion sickness affects less than 5% of our riders, roughly; the quick movements actually help prevent it.
That thing is freaking sick. Oh, and nice cat. One question-- what happens if you are in a car that has a seat on the side, like a regular car? Is there a way to move the pivot point off center? Can off-center left/right, forward/rear seating position be simulated in software somehow? Does that even matter?
