First time this played I jumped! the runs in the violins, the oom-pahing brass part, the power and urgency of it all is breathtaking! Then the slow, powerful theme of Psaro the Manslayer! so scary, and somewhat ispired by heavy metal at 2:20. Then the terrifying transformation fanfare and the hopelessness oozing out of the following Jaws-inspired theme! This is simply wonderful.

So that is Koichi Sugiyama in person. Well I must say it is quite an honor to see the face of the one (and very committed I should like to add) who has given the dragon warrior series such fine music. 8 bit music was (and still is) so good because the people making it must also be good at making music. This proves my point. Battle theme, Evil One, and Incarnation of Evil. Real life remakes right on key from the one who wrote them.

@Belharg Actually, the music in Dragon Quest was ALWAYS meant to be orchestrated, it just didn't sound as it was meant to be on the limitations of older 8-bit systems and 16-bit consoles. And that's why ANNUALLY, the NHK and other japanese orchestras hold Concerts with the music from Dragon Quest, in order to convey the music as-is.

All I can say is the jp version on the DS was very good...and it is based on the PSX version where you get Psaro in your party after beating the game once as a side quest leading to another boss. Koichi Sugiyama's music really is beutifull...

WOW. This is the DQ4 theme as it was meant to be heard. Sure beats the bleeps and bloops of the NES version if you ask me. Oh well, at least we had DQ8 to show how it's done!

It's the original name. In America it became "Dragon Warrior". A very good series of games, in my opinion.
