@sweetsweatyfeet The concepts in the Bible are revealed by God, not some morally contemptible barbarians. I am a Christian yet I don't fully understand the role of animal sacrifice. But I know this much, to understand it, you must open your mind to a different perspective. It's a bit like if you owe me a five-dollar note and can't produce one at due time, you can substitute it with five one-dollars. The real question is how the debt incurred. Spiritually, our debt is sin.

@heidilow77 I was brought up in a Christian community and read the bible. I know what it says especially in the OT. The "god" portrayed is an egotistical, genocidal, baby killing torturer/psychopath. You have to be either hopelessly brainwashed or a sick fuck to see an entity like this as "perfect". If evil is defined as the causing of death and suffering then this "god" Yahweh as evil beyond imagination. This is no god; it''s the ravings of the ignorant sickos that wrote the scripts.

@sweetsweatyfeet I am the kind with lots of questions. Over the years I have learned that God doesn't need to prove Himself to us. If you read the Bible you would know what you wrote about God is not true. There are records of sufferings and hard decisions but what about the good parts? Consider this: He tailored clothes for Adam and Eve when they left Eden. If He really wanted them to suffer He could have folded His hands and watched them shiver in the midnight wind. God's nature is love.

Here is a dose of reality; there is and was no god, there was only a band of savage marauders who slaughtered, raped and looted neighboring tribes, proclaiming it god's command as justification. It's exactly like Islamic maniacs killing "evil infidels" for allah, which BTW is the same god as Yahweh.

@sweetsweatyfeet (1) In Genesis 15, God promised to give a land to Abram, but then waited 400 years to act. In Genesis 18, through Abraham's persistent questioning we see God's nature. Some decisions are indeed hard. (2) I don't know about you, but for me it's a lot more convenient to carry out the 'activities' you listed without having a book that constantly reminds me that I will die in my sin. (3) When people falsely claim something to be from God when it's not, God will deal with them.

@heidilow77 Atrocities committed and commanded by god are not my claim---they come from OT scriptures. Scripture is quite clear these acts of sadism and depravity carried out by the Israelites on their neighbors were commands from god. That includes, killing babies, even the unborn by spearing the bellies of pregnant women. The young virgin girls were to be spared but "kept for themselves" as slaves and to rape.

The "sins" of man are but childish pranks in contrast to the atrocities of god.

Con't It's become transparently clear to me that an advanced, omnipotent creator of the universe could never be anything thing like the one depicted in the bible. The biblical god is characteristically a projection from the barbaric mentalities of that time. It comes across as a product of primitive thinking and profound ignorance of science and reason. The god of the bible is a made up specter as surely as the day is long.

@sweetsweatyfeet Through it all you just feel that God shouldn't be depicted in a certain way. You don't deny totally the existence the God. You just don't 'see' things in those lens. Then you have to pray cause you are too smart. I don't think you can find equally smart people who can discuss the matter with you over the internet. In fact, if you wish to know God intimately, one of the surest and best ways is to go to the descendants of Israelites. Seriously some of them know God far better.

(con't) I feel strongly that sinners deserve God, and that good people like yourself deserve God too. So don't misunderstand God through human eyes. Don't hold yourself from Jesus Christ because Christians fail. After all, it's God who saves, not His followers. It takes a little space in our hearts, though, to let God do His will through His followers. And even more space to know that these followers are not perfect. If I don't 'see' you again, hope to see you in heaven.

@heidilow77 As a matter of fact I am an atheist as I have been trying to point out. Why?--because there is no good reason to believe. The depiction of god in the bible is obvious fabrication of iron age tribesmen and the early churches as a tool of manipulation and control. The bible is not about truth; it's about seizing control of your mind and establishing theocracy. The bible you read now bears little resemblance to the original scripts.

@sweetsweatyfeet The adversary thinks that we need to read the whole Bible to be saved. Jesus' way is very simple, just believe in Him. He will take care of the rest. That's why He tells us His yoke is light. Consider the robber who was crucified next to Him. He didn't even have the NT script to touch and smell, let alone read. Just because he asked Jesus to remember him and it's all done for him. There is very little truth in the world we live in. Jesus' theology makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
