They all had the same heat shields. One of the mods during the recall was to increase the oil capacity. But there was nothing they could do if mechanics (including dealer mechanics) didn't refill the cooling system properly; if they didn't, the car ended up with HALF the coolant it was designed to hold. And there were engine fires? I wonder why;-(
For the 99th time, no, no, no. Combine a mid-engine car with buyers who never look under the decklid to check the oil or coolant levels. In the six years before the recall, my '84 never came close to catching fire, and it's gone 20 years and 143,000 miles since. Luck? Or proper maintenance?
By the way, the '84 Honda CRX also had a recall for engine fires. Somehow, that was swept under the rug of automotive history.
there was no GT model in 84 btw.. only 85 and up. 84 only had the sport coupe, se coupe and indy pace car. 85 was the only year to have a GT that used the notchback body style, 86-88 GT's had the fastback style.

Great looking custom Fiero. I like the body color trim and the wheels. Excellent work.

Beautiful car, but I don't think it's an '84.

It's an '84. The flat decklid was a one-year only item in '84. The '85's, even the 4-cylinders, had a hump in the lid to clear the intake for the V6.

@artistmac (I am zzzzoooommmmggg on a different account) But I thought the 84s had a magnesium grill on the trunk lid :)

@TalkingToPlants They do. I pray I never have to replace it, as expensive as even used Fiero parts are getting now.
