Excellent. Love Serenity. Love classic country and Western music and I love guns. Hell, Agua Fria isn't even that far from here. Just doesn't get much better. Thank you.
I LOVE IT!!! Saved to my Great Movie Scores and Soundtracks playlist. Ignore the negative posts. You have a talent for concepts, matching music and stories, or scripts; you have a gift! CONTINUE YOUR WORK; the rest can kiss my sister's black cat's ass! (from the Wild Bunch by Sam Peckinpah).
In the 40+ years I've been listening to popular music, there are only two gifted singers I've heard that can use their voices with the precision of a musical instrument: Marty Robbins and Judith Durham of the Seekers. Both can make any song so uniquely their own that no cover will ever come close.
Roy is close, but but not quite there. K.D. Lang's "Crying" is on par with Roy's. Any cover of "Big Iron" or "El Paso" is forever 2nd best to Marty, because he is that excellent and unique. Like Marty, the Seekers, with Judith Durham are so perfect and unique, that any cover of "I'll Never Find Another You", "Georgy Girl", "World of Our Own", "When the Stars Begin to Fall",etc is forever 2nd best to the Seekers.
Next time you get a chance, check out Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads". It has been remastered and rereleased many times since original release in 1959. Every song on it is like "Big Iron". The album, and Marty, are true timeless American Classics.
That's the very album I pulled this off of. I even recorded the old LP my mother owned because I wanted the crackle of the record instead of CD precision :)
J.R. did a version of Big Iron! Really?! Y'all wouldn't know where I could find it on the Internet would you. ~ Thanks. ~ MGySgt R.C. Ford USMC Al Kut,Iraq.
Well done. The video and lyrics match very well. Very imaginative adaptation of an old classic gunfighter ballad to a Science Fiction story. I'm impressed that a young man your age would even be familiar with Marty Robbins. You obviously self-educate. Keep on and you will go far!
Firefly/serenity my favorite western of all time. Just wish you had used Steve Goodman's version. I like Chicago Music what can I ay

I completely agree. This is my favorite Marty Robbins song, but the video is definitely not to my taste.

Yes,two great singers of our time,Marty & Elvis Presley.
One of Elvis's pub. co's. owns El Paso and a couple of others.
I noticed this one day while looking at sheet music books under who published the songs.
I read that Elvis was a big Marty fan also.

Johnny Cash was good but he could not come close to Marty's voice.

Nobody but nobody does a western ballard like Marty Robbins. I have listened to the Johnny Cash and it was good, but not as good as Marty's verison.
Long live the songs of Marty Robbins.
