he's a great guitarist but he doesn't syncopate his fingerpicking like the 'american primitivist' stylists... different type of fingerpicker than fahey.
I found it pretty difficult to appreciate this, but I'll give him another go sometime. I just couldn't help thinking about a Matt Holeness' character (Matt Holeness folk comedy...please, check it out).
So you think you're "cool" if you know Fahey and I don't...? teenager behaviour. I do know a lot about Fahey but Blackshaw and Basho are more my kind of guitar playing. I am sure someone as brilliant as you may notice the huge difference between those guitarists :) ...no need of agressivity when you are selfconfident
The newer guitarists you mentioned have copped their style from Fahey & Joni Mtchell & Paul Simon amongst others from the 60's. It would be wise to put all newer musicians in perspective. There is nothing new under the sun. Their talents DO NOT outshine their influences, if anything they only shine a light on themselves saying they are thieves not trailblazers, so DON'T put them on the pedestals that you younger people always seem to do. If you don't know the past, you will not see the future.
This post (underwhiteclouds) radiates so much smarmy "holier than thou" pretentiousness.. it's actually hilarious.
Yes, damn the teenagers for not being a musical connoisseur like yourself. Shouldn't you be outside shaking your fist at the kids on your lawn right now??

I'm 20 years old, I know Fahey and I definitely hear a difference. Unfortunately, we all couldn't wait around in the 60s freeze-frame and cling to the culmination of guitar-styles at that time. Don't you understand that Fahey had influences just like Chasny? You sound like a grumpy humbug, brother-man. I forgive you.

folk music is a tradition of "thievery" and recontextualizing influences. your post is nonsense.
