Fred, I don't think you've researched this issue as much as you really should have. While there is some debate regarding the extent of anthropogenic contribution to global climate change ("Global warming" is not the currently acceptable term), there is little actual debate in the scientific community at large and almost complete consensus in the climate science community that climate change is a real effect.
@murdocha When all the experts line up on one side of the debate I get nervous. Could this be wrong? Let's take an other look and make sure. That doesen't mean we stop doing sensible things to protect the environment.
@FredSpencerpu But that's the problem. The people I would describe as "climate change denialists" overemphasize the disagreement amongst the climate science community by stating that it's still controversial, which it isn't. I think it is great to have the discussion, but the majority of those who actually study this topic, and have the education to understand it, agree it's happening. They're not "lined up on one side" that's just where the evidence leads them.
@1488slav No offence taken. The oil will eventually run out of oil. We will transition to another source of energy. I hope it will be renewable and clean.
@FredSpencerpu The environment is not a serious problem, the problem is not making people aware that there are certain eco system in danger. People all know pollution is bad, but getting people to act and do something about it thats another thing. Telling people to recycle and use solar isn't going to make dramatic changes, but having major government reforms on way business and citizens use resources is the big changing face.
@optimizerofpain The price of oil in just 10 years is scary, the price of oil (don't take offense) when I am your age is even going to be scarier. I'm at the point at the moment even though I can afford the car I have I'm thinking of selling it because it is just not worth all the money I pump into it the only return I get is convenience if it takes me a extra hour to get home I can live with that.
Fred, global warming isn't a debate between scientists. 97% of the scientists believe in man-made global warming. The "other side" are the uninformed or people reimbursed by energy companies to support their financial interests.
@druszaj I am absolutely aware that 97% of the scientists accept Global Warming as fact. All I am saying is if we make choices that benefit ourselves as individuals and also are beneficial from an environmental stand point, everybody wins. Driving a more efficient car or adding a wind generator to the roof of our home is a benefit from every stand point. I do think we should disregard the political propaganda driven by self interest.
Everything is science is under question at all times. The true scientist is always prepared to re-examine any question.
