  • la combinazione dei corni con l'orchestra e' qualcosa di eccezionale grande intuito

  • Brings back my childhood memories. Superman is the greatest superhero.

  • One of the greatest Love Themes ever written.

  • If I ever become a billionaire, I'm hiring John Williams to do nothing but sit around and write original love themes.

  • Fantastic love theme. Love the big climax that goes from strings to brass fanfare.

  • ANOTHER SO BEAUTIFUL SUPER SOUNDTRACK OF MUSIC ANGEL JOHN WILLIAMS

  • mis u superman!

  • To me this film and the Chris Nolan films will always be the best superhero movies. For the simple reason that they take their characters seriously, focus on their positive aspects and make them heroic. Don't believe me? Then just look at the Batman film Tim Burton was given full creative control over; "Batman Returns". Ridiculous goth melodramatic rubbish.

  • @cpande1 True.

  • SUPERMAN FOREVER :)

  • Can you read my mind you sick bastard?

  • It just shows you how amazing John Wiliams is, he can create a theme that is very terrifying (Jaws) and then turn around and make this very beautiful and uplifting theme such as this!

  • @sam999thomas yeah well said with out doubt a mozart of his generation a true classical composer

  • Respond to this video...its just so moving wer on earth you get those musical notes just born with it i guess

  • This is not the version from the soundtrack - the one on the OST is much more beautiful. This one is performed lovely, but the OST one has so much more feeling to it.

  • I was 11 when this movie came out. To me Christopher Reeve, was the real deal on and off the screen. After his accident, he still looked after people like himself. He had the heart of Superman and also Supermans inner Strength and will.

  • The most beautiful theme on earth!!!

  • THank you John Williams. He knows how to make music that just stay in your heart.

And thank you Reeves, and Maurice McGovern.

  • god! I'm SO HAPPY they played this on smallville for a scene with lois and clark. That's all i was hoping for

  • beautiful . .one of the best love theme song ever ... please use this song in the new superman:man of steel movie.

  • so glad they played this at the end of smallville:)

  • @thinnerdounut Me too, I was so happy that Smallville ended the way it did. Still, I don't know what I'm going to do with my Friday night time slots now.

  • ahhh! doing an a cappella version of this :)

  • Wonderful.

  • A beautiful peice of music that should forever stay in our hearts. 6 people are sadly suicidal...

  • @Reevefan1 i think 6 people never been in love before

  • A beautiful peice of music that should forever stay in our hearts <3

  • It is a wonderful piece of music. It gives the wide range of an orchestra's capabilities from simple quiet pieces with few instruments building to the whole orchestra's involvement and back down to a gentle finish. John Williams composed some wonderful music.

  • my love theme !!! awesome! it make me dream... far far from reality....

  • UN MARAVILLOSO VIAJE DE RETORNO AL VERANO DE 1979....LA PELICULA Y LA BANDA SONORA COMPATIBLES EN CALIDAD Y ESPIRITU......GRACIAS JOHN WILLIAMS....GRACIAS CHRIS REEVE......SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO DE UN INCONDICIONAL FAN DEL HOMBRE DE ACERO......HERAKLES27.

  • Its funny how this is a romance them but its Romantic, artistically speaking I mean. its strange eve, Superman's tender romance theme is somehow heroic.

  • i saw it first when i was 8 or 9. Just watched it again, brought back lots of memories.

  • A BRILLIANT PIECE OF MUSIC... FITTING TO REMEMBER CHRISTOPHER REEVE WITH.

  • That's because it was seen as square at the time.

  • And this lost to Midnight Express at the Oscars? Tragic.

  • @TheHeenanFamily I KNOW RIGHT?!!!? It didn't and never will make sense to me why that even happened.

  • This is the real GOOD music. Nobody could ever beat this.

  • Damn, we soooo need a real Superman...

  • woooow such lovely song really made me relax. :) keep up the good work :)

  • My love, my tigress, my Lois Lane. I love you too. Happy anniversary.

  • Happy Anniversary, my Love.

  • the best forever

  • der beste von allen.....................chris

  • 5 people don't want to fly in Superman's arms.

  • 5 people were from the phantom zone.

  • @Maineutral more like 5 people need to be put in the Phantom Zone. I have spinning glass rectangles for anyone that dislikes this song.

  • 5 people were kryptonians.

  • ya no they may always bring out new films of superman with new actors to play the part Ex. Brandon routh or whatever but nowone in this world will or could replace Christopher Reeve he's the best there ever was and is and nowone is going to replace him EVER he's a true inspiration to us all with what he went through he proved a man could walk again and im proud of him 4 not sitting back and letting it get him down im proud of him Fighting for anuva chance

R.I.P Christopher Reeve miss u loads

  • @ceri20079 its tru I've never ever, seen casting that was so perfect b4 in my life. I mean Micheal Keaton and Christian Bale as Batman were great. Jack Nicholson as the Joker, oh hell yeah. But no THIS is the best casting for a movie EVER, at least in a pre-established role ie a role ppl have expectations of

  • Cheers for Reeves.

  • PreCrisis campy Superman FTW!!!!!!!!

  • 5 ppl have no musical taste

  • Lovely and poetic on a grand scale. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you!

  • It is interesting that for the casting of Superman many of the hollywood superstars back then such as Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Robert Redford, and even Sylvester Stallone were considered. But director Richard Donner instead chose Christopher Reeve who was then only performing on stage and no one haven't even heard of him. Guess you can say it all worked out perfectly.

BTW: The love theme is pure genius.

  • The horns starting at 3:15 kill me everytime.

  • @tranquilitybase

hai perfettamente ragione i corni sono eccellenti

  • Play this or any Superman sound track while reading Chris Reeve's bio on Wikipedia. I dare you not to cry.

  • Terrific -- always loved this musical score.

  • this is one Williams most underrated soundtracks....casual fans mostly only know it for the main theme, however, this track, along with "The Planet Krypton" and "Trip To Earth " are all great memorable pieces of music...along with the rest of the score...personally for me this entire score is outdone only by the masterpiece that is "The Empire Strikes Back " soundtrack

  • John Williams is the man!

  • I think the movie ruined the perception of Superman for people who don't read comic books. Superman in the comic books was never the all powerful indestructible demigod like he is the movies, even pre-crisis Earth-One Superman was nowhere near as the comically(no pun intended) powerful Superman of the movies. And Clark Kent was never a bumbling buffoon like he was in the movies either.

  • @stigler30 Wait...what?! What pre-crisis Superman comics have you been reading? Pre-Crisis Superman was able to move Planet Earth by standing upside down and pushing and in one issue he was able to make little a MINI VERSION OF HIMSELF that FLEW OUT OF HIS HAND. And Clark Kent absolutely was a buffoon in the late 50s comics and then throughout the 60s.

  • @gothamite27 Dc Archives volume one(that's Earth 2 though), Showcase presents volume 1, Superman Vs Spiderman(not canon though), For The Man Who Has Everything and a few others in none of those is he the demigod from the movie. And no he never was a buffoon he was always just a "mild mannered" dork.

  • @stigler30 Right, well nothing you've listed is from the Silver Age (when this movie was made). DC Archives Volume 1 is the Golden Age and those other two you have listed are very firmly from the modern age, after this movie was made. Check out "Superman in the Fifties" and "Superman in the Sixties" (which are available everywhere) to get an idea of how freakishly powerful Supes was back in the day.

  • @gothamite27 all the stories in Showcase presents are from the 50's, Superman vs Spiderman is from the 70's, For The Man Who Has Everything is from 1983.

  • @stigler30 I think you need to go back and read more pre-Crisis Superman. With that said, I think John Byrne's Superman is overrated. Geoff Johns has written the best Superman we've had in 30 years.

  • The Definition of 'Super':

"An article or a product of superior size, quality, or grade."

That just about somes this whole Movie up.

  • reboot, reimagine, do over, whatever you want to call it..start fresh with new ideas, storyline..WB and D.C need to get the rights back and get this movie made.Green Lantern release next year....can't wait..also have Wonder woman and the Flash movie and then they can have the Justice league..come on WB and D.C. get you ass in gear...anyway...love this theme song by john williams..

  • I love you Superman!

  • Excellent!

  • a Superman always must be have a Supermusic!! Congratulations!!!

    Christopher Reeve, god bless you

  • Which recording of this song is this? does anybody know?

  • @selrachhh It sounds very much like the release by John Debney and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

  • A Movie...and a Soundtrack...that will for always stay with a Generation

  • The sequel for "Superman Returns" was cancelled back in 2008- so anybody hoping for that to happen is going to be extremely disappointed. It has been confirmed that if another Superman movie is to be made- it will be a reboot and not a sequel to anything already made. It is currently unknown at this time if it is going to retell the origin story or start off with Clark Kent already being the Man of Steel. Brandon Routh has said in interviews that his contract has expired- so he will not be back.

  • On a happier note Christopher Nolan is "mentoring" the new Superman movie. Whether that means Routh will return or if Nolan will be a full-on producer it yet to be seen.

  • I have been on message boards where people pass off information from Warner Bros. They said the president of the company mentioned there currently are no plans for a new Superman movie at this time. The studio is battling court cases with the heirs of the original creators trying to reobtain all the rights of the character. If a new Superman movie is not filmed by 2012- Warner Bros. completely loses everything over to the Siegel estate. Brandon Routh can only come back if he renews his contract.

  • The reboot is probably needed because of the kid. J/K. I don't know how they would keep that going. We know Superman has kid(s) in the comics but for the movie, it just didn't seem right. Kind of like the Indiana Jones' son and even the Mummy son story line.. sometimes we just shouldn't go there!

  • I did not really have a problem with Indiana Jones having a son- that probably was the only good thing about that movie. I think it is okay that Rick O'Connell had one- they just should not have made him an actual adult in the third one. Probably should have had him as a teenager about to graduate high school. Superman definitely should not have had a kid- especially one who did not seem to have anything unique about him. That movie was a total waste and I am glad it is not getting any sequels.

  • the next movie should be in 3D when they release it in theatres just like avatar. I love Superman Returns.. Missing this movie already. Brandon Roth & Kate Bosworth.

  • The next superman should take a little from where Returns left off. Lois and his son - Kal-El's too, of course - living a troubled relationship, since he's now a teen and she's not the thing at Daily Planet anymore. Then it comes Brainiac, the alien who lost his planet - Colu - hates every organic like and found on Earth a perfect place to rebuild his people, using the natural resources here. (continues up)

  • He gets to know about Earth by merging himself with the Eradicator, the computer system created by Jor-El to eliminate every threat possible to Krypton - except it's ultimate demise. (continues up).

  • Brainiac, in energetic form, witnesses Kal-El's return to the place where Krypton once was (as told in Returns) and follows him when the Eradicator gives the coordinates of his home now, Earth. There, he supplies Lex with ultramodern weapons and plans to use his knowledge about Krypton to play Superman out in order to clean Earth from humans and turn it into a New Colu. The humanity turns against Superman and he must discover what's his real purpose here. Title: Superman - The Son of Krypton.

  • here is my ideas: start from scratch retell the whole story like origin..they are highly superior advance alien race has the capablity to alter gentic engineering.he father a brilliant scientist create a superior human race.that would explain his power..strenght,speed, flight,,ect.have a civil war which destroy their planet..you get the ideas..but keep this score by john williams

  • No. Just no. Don't you ever dare to write that again.

  • On Krypton, the Kryptonians are just regular people. It's when they come to Earth and get energy from the yellow sun that they turn into super-people. So their entire race already has the potential to be super!

  • very moving and positive piece of music...... i love it..... john williams is a genius

  • agree 100 Percent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this has to be my favourite piece by John Williams - just - because it is so emotive, right up to the fantastically heroic crescendo near the end. JW IS the God of music.

  • Heres my idea: start from scratch, retell the whole story like an origin tale ala Batman and make it EPIC.Long shots, thunderous views of metropolis, etc. They should aim for a trilogy and concentrate on lois and clarks relationship,Godfather-style tension beetween Supes and lex and new baddies. And a kickass soundtrack lyk this!

  • from this mexico tanks

  • Wonderful Song!

  • What can I say? It's a beautiful song.

When I listen this song. I just back in time... We were very happy.

    Kisses and hugs from Brazil

  • This song is so beautiful..makes me cry every time I hear it...not a bad cry but a good one. :)

  • I love this music!! Makes me chills-

  • I play this in my car all the time. I get chills when they circle the Statue Of Liberty in the movie. My favorite as well.

  • The first one should be somebody's favorite- it is the best one of all. It is definitely better than the recent film "Superman Returns." I wonder if they ever will get around to making a new film that actually starts the series all over. I feel like there does need to be a new one that begins with the origin as the way it is done in the 1978 film is outdated for today. They definitely need to use villains who have never been in the movies before.

  • Superman es uno de los temas más bonitos q he escuchado interpretado por orquesta, y éste es magnífico

  • I think my favourite film score of all-time. Just wonderful. John Williams, Sir, you are a genius.

  • this brings back some kick butt memories superman and the music never ages

  • You guys know that John Williams, the composer for this, was Henry Mancini's piano player on his Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky albums? We're talking late 50's....!!!

  • I am a huge fan over DC comics mostly Wonder Woman. I have been since I was 2. I wanted to incorporate my love for superheros in my wedding. This was the song I walked down the aisle to and the main theme is what my husband and I walked into our reception. It was awesome. There were so many people that didn't realize how well I could make this fit into my wedding. When you tell someone "I'm going to play Superman music at my wedding" you get funny looks.

  • THAT IS TRULY AWESOME!!!

  • At Fiesta Texas, while you're waiting in line, you hear this song, and the Main Theme. Its beautiful at night.

  • Go Chris Go!

  • another of many william's masterpiece

  • masterpie

  • Pretty incredible- pandora gave this to me and it stuck in my mind so much that I had to look it up.

  • Oh my!! this song is memorable for any female out there..believing that one day we will have a man like Superman... :)

  • You kidding me Im still looking for a woman to share this song with.

  • Absolutely lovely...brings back memories of the first time I saw the film!

  • This is a fantastic piece as usual from John Williams.

  • Gosh! i have this OST double album on the old record format!!!! it hasn't lost its appeal at all!!! wonderful music.

  • Oh the great memories!I grew up watching all the Superman films at the cinema:Christopher Reeve is the most handsome and the best Superman ever!

  • What a fantastic heroic and memorable ode to a man of steel in love. As for Christopher Reeve wasn't he just the perfect Superman?! Who wouldn't have imagined Superman to look like that - a STAR.

  • Wonderful!

  • Maravilloso tema, gracias por compartir.

  • John Williams is a Master. His music is soo commanding, it penetrates so thoroughly, painting beautiful, profound pictures of the deepest emotions within your mind.

  • THIS ABSOLUTELY MOVES ME!! The key to winning over any audience is to touch them from within -- connect with their "emotions". This score does that so masterfully. Beethoven would be ever so envious!

  • one of John williams Best Work if not his best close to The close encounters theme and Jurrasic park.

  • :O)

  • Untouchable. Unmatched. And utterly irreplacable. The man was born to the world wearing a red cape. And moreover, he later proved himself more super than any character cound ever be. In my opinion it was a travesty to ever attempt to replace him. Rather, they should have given him his rightful place in history and set the new Superman movie 25 years ahead instead of 5, and passed Brandon Routh off as the son of Reeves and Kidder. You can't re-paint the Mona Lisa. Nor should you try.

  • Agreed, Epic comment. lol

  • I agree all the way, you never gonna get a Superman like the one Reeves portrayed, he was the man meant for the role, and like you said he is unmatched and untouchable, I agree with SearchingYT, your comment is epic

  • I don't think a lot of people would go for a "son of Superman" movie. I still think there's a lot of movies left to make with the Clark Kent Superman. Think about it, we only got two good ones in the Reeve series, that's a lot of untapped potential isn't it? Ok, the actor wouldn't be Reeve but Reeve wasn't the first good Superman actor. George Reeves embodied the character before him so there might still be an actor who can take over for Reeve.

  • Haha! I am thinking the actor's last name would have to be Reeve. I think it is a promising trend. From George Reeve to Christopher Reeve, I am telling you, it is a winning method!!

  • I strongly support your view concerning this film.

  • Interesting take. But wouldn't Superman's absence(death) hafta be addressed? And would we have Kidder playing an aged Lois Lane, perhaps living on the Kent farm? It would go places some fans might not want to go.

But yer idea would be consistant with "the son becomes the father and the father the son" and truly be within that Richard Donner Superverse we all love to this day. I'dve loved to have seen Hackman as Luthor

take on Routh as the new Superman after his father's death

  • @walka112 Well from what i heard, DC is rebooting it with Nolan directing it.

  • @walka112 Well done. I shouldn't try to add to or subtract from your eloquent words. =)

  • @walka112 Wow..... how true, Walka....very well put... Christopher Reeve has always been Superman. And yeah, he proved himself to be a real living, breathing, superman after his sad tragedy......he def. brought the hero to life in every way, it's my OPINION that he was as close to the character as it gets........NO ONE comes even close for me. :o) :o)

  • @walka112 stfu

  • a real masterpiece !

  • the best. Feliz viaje Chris.

  • I really love this theme.. Hai..

    I miss the days...

  • I also like this photograph very well.

  • Beautiful! RIP Chris:)

  • Now that is the way to post music. Absolutely beautiful, and great choice of picture. Thanks so much for this!

  • inolvidable....!!!!

  • Beautiful damn those were the days.............

  • Thank You For Sharing This Outstanding Crystal Clear Version of John William's "Can You Read My Mind", Original Poster!

I was looking for this instrumental version and you just made my day!
