RIP Mr Barry.............I am such a great fan of yours & wanted so much to see you live & i knew your music in films even before the credits came up. Thanks once again you genuis. Colin UK
We lost the great composer John Barry yesterday. I wish he knew his beautiful Dances with Wolves score sustained me when deployed overseas, missing the birth of my youngest son. May he Rest in Peace.
You know for the life of me I can't see anything to dislike about this theme or any of John Barry's work. Yet 5 people voted thumbs down on this. I really don't get it!
WOW !!! Every song I hear by John Barry is good or in this case GREAT :))
If he's British is he a Knight and why not if he aint ?
I saw this movie 1st time last week and it isexcellent...made me feel angry what whites have done to Indians..only STOLE a whole continent off them cuz we're so greedy.
It musta been paradise...whats now north america B4 we came :(
There should be more films like this based on real events...its enjoyable , educational and makes you think :)
Great video and great movie. I am currently working on piano tutorials for songs from the movie soundtrack. I have loaded two socks the wolf theme on my channel. If you would like to learn to play some of these songs from dances with wolves. have a look at my channel.. thanks
I have commented before sometime ago rgfarding John Barry and this particular theme which was hijacked for the song heroes, however some 5 years ago I heard it played at Lincoln Cathederal during a milatary gathering there, it was performed by a pipe band and it was awesome, it sent shivers down your spine and made you so PROUD of all our lads whatever century we are in!!!! and whewreever they are well done and god bless you all.
@TheJohniewalker1 That must have sounded amazing and I agree about being proud of our lads and I think about them EVERYDAY....lol...I get shivers in my spine to certain things , especially stuff about brave soldiers and evern sports events...God Bless ALL tha allies fighting terrorism :)
@themikeyandjaffashow Sounds like C to me. I harken back to my days in primary school where the teacher had a little thing she'd blow into and it would sound out C, G, F, etc.
I so much would love to see & hear this man in concert i love all his music..........Anyone know if he is performing live anywhere for 2010......Thanks
Maybe if the Indians would have had helicopters (like in that one scene). The Government wouldn't have screwed them out of what was rightfuly theirs. Otherwise beautiful song!
I LOVE this song!!! Maybe if the Indians would have had helicopters(like in that one scene) in those days . the U.S. government wouldn't have ROYALY screwed them out of what was rightfuly theirs.
'Dances With Wolves' is my absolute all-time favorite movie, and the soundtrack to it is just phenomenal. John Barry did a SUPER, SUPER job on the music, and it is a soundtrack that I will NEVER tire of listening to.
cant agree more this is one of the best westerns created, really puts it out there, almost makes a person cry because of what the white man did to them (no im not blaming them either, just saying)
This is my favorite movie of all time - so well done. The beauty of the west, the huge issue of the Native American way of life being pushed aside/destroyed; a lone man and a group of Lakota coming together to try and communicate and understand each other. The book is fantastic, too - even better than the movie as most books are, but the movie followed the book well.
This movie is a classic and stands alone as one of the best westerns made. The extended version is a must see. Also should be seen on a big screen the way it was intended. Best movie Kevin Costner made followed by his last western with Robert Duval. I don't remember the title but it was about a cattle drive.
Great movie, great music. Today's souless generation don't write ( or have the talent ) to create absolutely beautiful and inspiring music like this. I believe the early 90's was the last of truely great music, I wouldn't even call what we have now music. This is unashamedly old-fashioned, stirring, romantic and it sounds good...everything today's porn 'music' isn't.
@ Chriss5277, this was played on the preceeding show to Sir Terry last week. Richard Madeley was looking after Sarah Kennedy's show and this was played just after "Pause for thought" brilliant track :-)
WOW! I know Sarah was on holidays and Richard was filling in. Unfortunately, I only record Sir Wogan. Thanks though! Great to hear this track actually gets played now and then, even if only, on BBC Radio 2. This from a Canadian. :-) Cheers!
This track was released with another track on a stand alone cd when the original score was released at the end of 90 or early 91. Both tracks do not feature on any albums of the score as both were not conducted by Mr Barry even though they are of course based upon his score. The above version is excellent and should be included in my opinion. Not sure why these stand alone tracks were released though.
This bites! I saw this vid last night and I LOVE this tune. I went into Sanity today and bought the normal soundtrack AND the extended soundtrack and this song is on neither of the cd's!!! ARGH!

The most accurate depiction of his music so haunting and beautiful--John Berry defines the scene!
WEEP SAD MUSIC
Play and weep, beautiful sounds, your music on the screen--bittersweet sounds---take away my hurt - help us sustain--
fill us with sadness, and pain--
such a beautiful noise,
may bring us to love--
at the sounds of the ephemeral songs,
we will fall in love again.
We dance in our heart or with wolves-
it's all the same! We fly over beauty in a cloth covered airplane!
