Glad you showed this as you looked to be enjoying yourselves. I tried to organise a visit to a sake distillery in Kyushu & shot off an email to them asking if it was okay to visit. No answer came and I concluded they couldn't understand English or didn't want drunk gaigin or what ever.
I was at Nada-gogo myself last week, but only managed to find Shu-shin-kan by cab. Attempted to walk around (during the BLAZING summer heat) but the only other sakagura I could find that opens to the public (Taki Koi) was closed for the off-season! By that time, it was too hot and tiresome for my other non-sake loving travel members to continue any further on the fruitless walk through town. (which simply resembled a big industrial complex, btw)
Sake is actually meant to be drunk in small tiny saucers or cups to appreciate its more complex subtle or simple flavors. If you drink it too fast and too quickly , you just get drunk faster and might not taste the "good" sake flavor it has.
Sake can be enjoyed by sharing with friends ( like minded ) and with great foods. It is all up to you. Now Sake is not too popular , Beer is not as popular too , Shochu and Low Alcohol Korean Wines are popular in Japan - 2010.
Hey so if one does not live in Japan then what would be the best sake or famous sake outside of Japan? I mean have some in restaurants but they generally never show you the bottle, most of the time it's in their own traditional sake bottles.
I would say it tastes like vodka or soju without that 'sharp' taste that makes you want to regurgitate, it's sweet but not too sweet and fully flavoured so that you want to simply enjoy it rather then chug it down as quickly as possible.
So how was the sparkling sake? I have seen it at the store and have been hesitant to try it. Also have you given nigori sake a try? Its an unfiltered sake, and is just slightly sweet, but not too much so.
I have had some unfiltered sakes. I like them, but only a little at a time. The sparkling sake wasn't good at all. I was barely able to finish one small cup :(
Great vid. I'm not a big sake fan, but I think that's because I've never had high quality sake - usually just hot sake that's only meant to warm the belly... The sparkling sake actually sounds appealing.
I once went on a micro brewery tour in Toronto and that was great too. We were there in the off season as well so the bored staff seemed more than happy to serve us far more than they were supposed too :)
Everyday is a beautiful day for drinking! Also, i must say damn ur lucky. I had to beg my girl to come to a winery and yours left you in the dust, ready for the free samples. I hate you, you lucky bastard... and yours is Asian I got a dumb blond. wtf, i am in the wrong country or what
yeah, she was so far ahead of you I didn't think we'd see her at all. So quick question, do korean or japanese chicks dig us (white guys) more? Also include the fact I am American... damn it, I want one too.
yessir! I had a great afternoon. I suppose it would have even been more fun if we'd had the chance to visit one or two more! I suppose they'd have to cart us out in a wheelbarrow then!!
Yeah, I know...I know..."try it ya might like it"....but it seems such desperate measure an' passin' fancy...Seems downright idiotic when ya go ahead in mass producing a product that has such a limited margin of appeal...like, "Holiday Spice Pepsi"or "New Coke" ...I always thought solid buisness aimed at being more discretionary...even if they can afford such risks.

You are sending the erroneous information.
Hakutsuru and KIKUMASAMUNE is not a conscientious company.
They are bought others made, and they say it made themself, and sells it!!
(It's called "OKEGAI"(桶買い). Please examine it. )
I don't know all companies, but...
A sincere company is "HAKUTAKA(白鷹)" and "YAEGAKI(八重垣)" in NADA district.
They are selling the highest goods, they make sincerity.
It's a manufacturer of famous among annoying people to the taste.

You can get Hakutsuru sake LCBOs here in Toronto, I think it should be the same for any other LCBOs.
I've managed to keep a bottle of 1.5L Gekkeikan sake hidden from my mom so far :P Half way through it, good stuff
