@RaptorX34 yea and i saw one get nailed by a full size chevy silverado head on truck was going 65 km. driver of the acura died from serious injuries. the chevy still started and drove. the damage on the chevey was 1500$. the acura was a write off. you couldnt even tell it was an acura after the hit looked like crumpled beer can lmao
This and the Acura RL (2005+) are the most aesthetically pleasing crash tests, the ones that just tell you subconsciously that those dummies, if they were people, would walk away. The ones where your heart knows that this is well engineered. This car exemplifies safety in this crash test.
@whattheheck1000 Knew a couple that was in the previous generation TL, t-boned a Ford Escort around 30-40 mph, airbags obviously deployed yet they steered off the road and put the car in park, they walked away with only some bruises, the people in the escort had to be airlifted. Now, my friends obviously had a larger crumple zone with the engine and all, but just walking out, incredible car, hope to be a proud owner in the future!
I know that American is known for safe cars but they're just ugly like this Acura. I know it's a Japanese brand but it was designed be Americans. I would love it even more if it has more Japanese like style.
You are right...when the passenger from airbag just start to deinflate,it has a very fast second deployment ...weird....maybe an Acura safety characteristic with their airbags...or maybe a circuit failure related with the air bag control unit due the force of the crash.
Sharp eye gregzulauf- you are correct! All Acuras have dual stage/dual threshold airbags. Depending on the severity of the crash, the airbag module can ignite both inflators simultaneously or at staggered rate, depending on crash severity and whether the occupant is belted or not. The purpose is to reduce airbag related injuries.
Not surprising that Acura is the only manufacturer ever to have all of their cars receive both a 5-star rating from NHTSA AND Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.
Exactly, and this is already a nice full size and i would say luxurious vehicle,i've been in one of this ones and it's really nice, the interior, quality ride, but they must fix that,it can lead during an accident to a many different kind of injuries, just because that sharp window.
any particular reason the side windows slide inwards, exposing the edges of glass to flailing whiplashing heads?

that's awesome! most cars completely distort position when impacted like that.. ACE body structure.. gotta love it.

This makes me feel much better knowing that had i crashed my loaner TL i at least would have been fine

The windows were down prior to the crash, and I believe that is the reason for them to be off tracked after the crash.

Instead of totaling this car, you could have given it to me :(

@super87cole Well yes, they do travel at 54 mph, but the thing is that you do have a short time to react, which should slower your speed.
FrozenFirestorm 1 year ago
@super87cole Saw one that hit a very large tree at 70 mph. Driver and passenger survived with no serious injury.

It was closer to 36 mph in this test (35.62 or smth like that). Quite impressive.

I wonder if glass that's coming up from the doors would hurt someone's arm at that speed?

have to agree with you. dangerous or not, I don't like the glass doing that. I don't see BMWs do it.
