The word "happiness" barely made any sense there. They drove great cars and lived in great neighborhoods, but the depressed empty roads spoke for themselves. People were choking under regulations and classism never seemed so obvious, even in the US. It was no wonder their characters were so oddly shaped.

I just felt bad for them.
