Of course pitbull samples all his music pitbull is some degerate waste of life cancer on the world without any original thoughts. what more could you expect? Im impressed he has any thoughts at all quite frankly
What's really wack is that Pitbull didn't sample "Street Player". Listen to "75, Brazil Street" by Nicola Fasano. Pitbull actually SAMPLED A SONG THAT SAMPLED THIS SONG and rapped over it as it was. Can that motherfucker just hire a producer? You could at least mix together your own beat! Talentless hack.
wow, carnival was first to borrow this beat, then peetbull. And the original sounds best. This should be on the radio as a tribute. Call your local hip-hop station and make the request to hear this song.
Can't get enought of this song...like a curse, One of the best disco era song. Fantastic and rich flow, Awesome variety of sound...agains and again in my head, in my car for ever. Great sensation!
Ok sing with me: 1,2,3, fuck Pit--bull! Bucketheads' is totally different; they sing, " these sounds fall into my mind," yeah, right wayyyy different..Chicago goes," Street sounds swirling through my miiiiiiiiii-i-i-i-iiind..." awesomeness!!
Chicago doing disco! I guess the critics couldn't stomach Chicago recording a dance-type record! Really, I can't understand why "Chicago 13" & "Chicago XIV" sold so poorly? One reason is because James William Guercio was no longer producing the group at this point. They really didn't need David Foster to produce albums filled with sappy ballads to help kill their careers as creative musicians. That actually happened after Terry Kath's death (after "Chicago XI"). "13" & "XIV"weren't bad LPs, NO!
you feel the most alive when you listen from 4:22. sounds like a carnival is coming up your street as they bring in more and more instruments. AMAZING!! What the hell happened to this kind of music????
I was at a clinic last night with Danny Seraphine (original fantastic drummer for 23 years with Chicago), and he told the story and it was a blessing Pitbull sampled part of this song, and they licensed it and he made a bunch of money and everybody wins. Danny co-wrote and got 1/3. This probably in his book "Street Player"...

@thebigsanchez right on dude! no harm in reusing a great beat and turning people on to the originals. this song rocks never knew it was chicago first then the bucketheads then pitbull. great beat
@thebigsanchez the problem with pitbull, is that hes shit at making music and hes a shit rapper, he took this amazing song and made it shit. Now look at The Bucketheads, they took this song and made another amazing song out of it, therefore people love them. very simple
@thebigsanchez first, the copyright contains the sound. that is what the _copy_right is there for: regulate the copying of the sound by others. that is why you have to clear a sample, before you are allowed to publicate it. second, even if music is changing, there still is good and bad music. guess, which one pitbull is doing
haha i love how a bunch of people are saying "oh im 27 and this song is great, othher kids these days cant relate blah blah blah. cant we all like great music no matter what age? im 13 yo and i think this song is dope.
@KENPSTOK You kidding me? I'm 24 and go nuts whenever a DJ drops this track, like the raw unedited uncompressed unremixed track. I'll go for the raw funk and disco sound straight from the source any day. But there are also people coming out with fresh house music, all kinds for all kinds of tastes, and new styles of club dance, too. Just as raw as it ever was, you just gotta have your ear to the ground. We can't go back, we can only look forward.
A few years back the owner of this took it down from Youtube. The owner is now said to have passed on. The song re appeared on Youtube the next day. No doubt that it was so funky the owner just couldnt handle it.
If anyone else besides Chicago had released this song, it would have been a hit. What ruined it was that it was so totally different from anything Chicago had done before. That, and Chicago 13 was their worst effort at the time.
Yeah, I know they caught all sorts of crap for this album but I think it's pretty damn solid. Only a few tracks could be called "disco" inflected. There were so many other good songs on it.
@CC21560 I think I'd agree with that. I heard that Chicago went with a new producer for this number or they had the same producer but he told them to "go disco" which they did in true Chicago style, of course, which is awesome but, yeah... probably a lot for Chicago fans at the time to handle.
well, 1 thing is sure: this kind of covers made me discover SO much old artists and songs, and 99% of times I forget about the cover once I get the original. As long as this happens, I think covers have got their reason to exist!
The lyrics say "When you fuck up on some big chairs, these sounds fall into my mind."
Thats the message the song tells people about why dancing to music makes them sexually irresponsible which is why some people end up doing other things that fuck up their life when they try to be on the safe side which is why life is a conundrum.
Yeah but, the title of the bucketheads song which was 100% recycled music, but only sampled 1% of this song used the title "The Bomb (These sounds fall into my mind)" was a mondegreen.
Songs have such mondegreens, that maybe this guy was talking about a gay blowjob with a turd instead of a black man's penis!
@ourvinylcollection : You wouldn't even know this song if it wasn't for Kenny Dope making it into a world anthem. He wasn't copying the song, he was adding his house mix to get people to dance to it because it's his fucking job. What he did to the this track was BEYOND BRILLIANT!!!
I have to admit I first heared the horns trough the Bucketheads version (which b.t.w. is an excellent dance record that kept respect for the original and made their own version).
Then I heard this later. The brass in Bucketheads is only 1% of the total amount of brass from this original!
Besides, I think Chicago's "Street Player" is a good enough dance song!
I mean, who needs such borderline sexual references in lame hip hop which doesn't sample funk anymore? Chicago made a good enough song that you could get some "booty call" out of!
Besides, rap was an extension to funk in the first place! And I think when The Bucketheads sampled this song; they were honoring its existance; but oddly enough; they didn't market it as a "hip hop" song!
This song is almost as fun to hear as it is to feel a tongue in your mouth when you are having fun with the ladies!
This is why cigarettes are bad!
also, since Marlboro is the most popular brand of cigarettes; when decyphering the first number occured from making Marlboro a phoneword and then repeats of it, you get 666 when you reference the numbers from the tele keypad. And cigarettes are part of satan!
There seems that about 404 out of 420 people who think making out is awesome would rather smoke (whether its cigarettes or marijuana).
Anyway, I think we should pun cigarette as 666garette since it is a satanic thing to smoke!
That hidden occurence of 3 sixes as a phoneword may mean something. I have heard that cigarettes were deemed to be sexy decades ago, and guys asked for girls numbers; so with this phonewording; you may be on to something!!!
And your reference to 404 could refer to low availability of will for women to make out with just any guy, since it is an analogy to the rampant internet error the number refers to; also your reference to 420 may refer to how ignorant those people are about the superiority of making out!
Even if the statistics are less accurate with that numerology, it still gives an idea on how fucked up the world can be with bullshit!
Yeah well, when a heap of vital resources are at stake; it is no joking matter!!!
Because the reason why people are racist is because sometimes a black man's penis will be mistaken for turd; all because of the coloring and the shape of the penis.
And speaking of penises; they are the tool that sexually irresponsible people use after they take music and dancing the wrong way. And when Samurai rambles on about dancing to music; he makes a point!
Everything after 4:30 is one of the most prized club classics. People who participated in the "Disco Sucks" movement are often surprised how good this song sounds. That's because any of style of music only "sucks" to non-musicians. To a musician, the only thing that sucks is poor execution, of which there were many examples in disco. Incomprable Airto's absolutely KILLER percussion, and great musicianship by the band, make this a great piece of music, irrespective of any narrow-minded "style".
I love the horns on this one - especially since they're very 'tight', well played and the melodies use more bars than you'd expect in a run of the mill disco track.
I think it is intriguing that the song "Street Player" is actually the basis for the Bucketheads' song "The Bomb".
And I think it just sucks ass that most listeners of music that samples other recordings don't give a shit about the similarities to the past.
Because I am Will Smith fan who is a simultaneous listener of funk! Seeing that hip hop was an extension to funk in the first place. The Bomb song however is a techno song that recycles Street Player in its entirety.
cool music yeah!!!

Just say NO to racism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if you slightly like this song, check out "The Bomb" by The Bucketheads.
Great use of Chicago for a mid 90's dance song.

Well, Street Player is somewhat of a "dance track" too!

Techno? House.
The sample credit for 'Street Player' is listed on the sleeve of 'The Bomb'
And it doesnt sample the whole song 'in its entirely', just one loop.
Jayfive276 3 years ago
Actually, I meant to say, the song "The Bomb", in its entirety contains some loops of Street Player.
Also, Techno is so subjective, that my mind bleeds it with House music.
