I just watched the link on your page for her mother and it saddens me. This poor young lady. I actually cried while listening to her beautiful college educated mother. To be without her mom has to be extremly hard. To learn that her mother passed at only 56 years old of brain cancer is so tragic. All the footage I see of Maia is from a few years ago, so I hope that means that familiy members have found her and gotten her back on her medicine because her mom is no longer here to take care of.

Very caring and everything was wonderfully said. Today I ran across a picture of a nude lady on a website that I was on and as I was looking at her face, I couldn't figure out who she was at first and then I saw the name Maia Campbell. I googled her and read all of this stuff about her. This is tragic. One video on Youtube where she was going into explosive rant's and their were people filming her through what looks like a door. It was hard to watch. God bless her and I hope she gets help.

this all "sound's good" but there are some areas that u are not addressing. one, everybody is not as strong as u. two, everybody does not have access or resources to get help. no insurance=no meds so people deal with the illness the best way they can be it drugs, drinking or suicide. not sure what region of the country u are in but most black folks don't have such services available to them. more importantly, let Yahweh control not us. if find the to be very shallow.....

There are other videos of her stripping and singing, and she refers to the dude in the video of her in the car as "daddy" and says that he is going to beat her up, leading me to gather that he is her pimp. Pornographic pictutures of her are floating around in addition. She may have mental illness, and that could make it easier for her to fall prey to a person who will exploit her and get her hooked on illegal drugs.

Using the term "crazy" is a slur, and totally inappropriate. Some one "getting down" or "going down" is called depression. Being "out of control" is called mania. Bipolar disorder used to be called "manic depressive". I think everyone can put two and two together. i had depression and i still have it but its not as bad. when my counsiler told me that i was crazy i got really angry. ok so not the best way to deal with it. i was given so many different anti depressants which i never used cause i didnt need them but i was wrong. but everyone is different and thats they way the world is. people need to get over it.

Great video. I'd watched the interview with Bebe when the video of Maia first came out. It' so eerie because a lot of what Bebe said you can see happening to Maia in the video. So I can only imagine this was her mother's worst fear for her.

When I saw the video I was surprised that the man holding the camera would record the situation and then laugh about it. Mental illness are very serious issues and because of people like the person recording the situation people who need help are afraid to seek help. It's a sad situation for all of them, when someone with any kind of health condition takes street drugs on top of that pre-existing problem,  a number of issues can come about. A lot of people with mental disorders are on the street because they either have no one to look after them or they don't want medical intervention. They end up self medicating with things like marijuana and crack...that's the problem with Maia.

Thank you for not taking such blanket statements about Maia C. I recently had to take a stress leave from my job and had to attended an aggressive outpatient psychiatric facility. I was prescribed medication,daily group counseling, a visit with the doctor every other day. If not for the love of my family I wouldn't have been to have the support. I think Maia is missing the support of her mom.

Speaking from the heart, a clinically depressed person emotions are like a rollercoaster and just as Bebe Moore Campbell mentioned in the video, when they feel that they are getting better most of us stop taking their meds. Personally, I didn't want to take my spouse through the ride, but he refused to get off. I definitely wouldn't have started a new one unless the person knew what to expect and wouldn't just write me off as crazy after every disagreement.

You would be shocked by the number of people who are substance abusers that suffer from mental illnesses. I guess the positive thing that has resulted from Maia's situation is that it is causing people to discuss mental illness. I have a very soft spot in my heart for people with mental illnesses. After rotating in a psychiatric unit I really emphatize with them. What a lot of us must understand is that people with mental illnesses have a harder time coping with everyday life situations. So just like most of us can bounce back from certain situations, they cant. I have spent my time trying to teach people with mental illness coping and relaxation techniques. We must learn to be more understanding and caring.

I have a family member who has schizophrenia and I see a great deal of similarity in her behavior in the video as with his when he's out of control. When I was younger seeing him in his spells were pretty scary, any other time, he'd be right as rain. Maia is in my prayers.
