@kevinoo5 i wasnt a huge fan of mgs 2 because when you play the first level you think you play the rest of the game as snake but instead you play as raiden but it is still fun though
Not saying that these are better or not than MG series, but don't forget about games like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, Medalof Honor, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil etc, they are different but they are epic games too

I'm pretty new to the franchise and I'm playing them in Canonical order, I just finished the first of the main 4, which was MGS3 and it was incredible, The gameplay, the music, especially that whole chase scene with the Shagohod.
Can I expect as much from Metal gear solid: The twin Snakes?
@Diggler277 honestly I didn't think much for twin snakes, but that's cause I was a hardcore fan of the original for psx, personnally I reckon you should get that, be it the disc and a psx or a emulator.
This game defines the meaning of epic, forget about halo forget about Call Of Duty, forget about Gears Of War forget about Devil May Cry, Forget about Gta and God Of war this game will take a dump on them and tbag them later Metal Gear is all about epicness no genre will defy metal gear as the best series of gaming ever,not even Zelda.
@fluteofdemise Meh, god of war and zelda come pretty close... in my opinion, there is only ONE game series that was a greater masterpiece than metal gear... ICO. Shadow of the Colossus is one game that I will NEVER forget playing. And believe me, MGS4 is also one of those few games.

Think about it, MGS is truley the best game triology however supassing legends such as half life, however idiots of the world had migrated to perhaps the worse game I have ever encounter, and pay large quantitys of cash just for a new map. Also this was obvious as I clearly used the term 'shit ops' as well as quotated the "duty".

@HeavenHellGate00 True, but I think the other guy was refering to the games on the main playstation consoles, which is what I was refering to at the time.
Having not played the first two games or any of the PSP games, the story is very easy to follow and works without the extra plots. I don't know what happened in them, but playing them would likely make a reference more obvious and explain the few things that don't make any sense.

@Threadnaught It goes like this: mgs3, mgs portable ops, metal gear acid (spin off), metal gear acid 2 (also spin off), mgs peace walker, MG1, MG2:SS, MG: Ghost Babel (a spin off) MG: Snake's Revenge (Also an unofficial spin off), Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid Rising, and finally Metal Gear Solid 4... so that's the order of the series by story, and you'd have to import the spinoffs if you're that dedicated.

@fluteofdemise God of War comes close... buy yeah, Metal Gear is doubtless one of the greatest gaming series' of all time... I'd argue that the ICO series was also powerful, but either way, Hideo Kojima is a genius, and gaming wouldn't be the same without him.
@Tmonsterize No. Not COD. For even saying that you should GTFO now! Maybe Godly Gear Solid (Kratos & Snake in the same universe? lol), but other than that, no. And Kojima is his own master mind, he'll never approve of any fan ideas. Ever. And that's what makes his games pure genius.
@fluteofdemise The only games I find to have a competitive edge for the epicness surronding the MG saga are the Mass Effect serie. And even then, they have a hard time keeping up (but they still do IMO).
@Hinaloth I don't think so,Mass effect has a good solid story line and epic cinematics and gameplay,but there are better games that Mass Effect some of which I mentioned in the list, but Metal Gear truly raised the bar on gaming industries when MGS4 came out in 08' Mass Effect is great, even epic.But it still lacks in terms of "Epicosity" (tobuscus quote)compared to games like Halo and Zelda.
@fluteofdemise You obviously haven't played MGS4, which, by the way, stands for Metal Gear Solid, not Mass Effect. And no, Halo is not even close (Halo 3 was an epic failure of an attempt to copy MGS2's stroyline). Zelda is Nintendo's best, sure. But Metal Gear is the one series that stands supreme, as no other developer puts more time thought and effort into their games than Hideo Kojima.

@hypernova1024 Not every game needs to have a typical MGS story line mate,There are many storylines that truly catch the player's heart.It's absolutely certain that the Metal Gear Series has the best story yet,however there are some games that really caught my mind and made me love the game.The game that truly did that is the Assassins Creed Series.Don't get me wrong I love Mass Effect,but for a game countdown I'd place it at no.8 or so.

@Hinaloth But Mass Effect, while an overall great package, still has all of the cons that metal gear does (loading times, install, lengthy cutscenes - unskippable in mass effect), and few of the pros... the only pro I can think of that it shares is the epic sound track. I own both MGS4 and ME2 and play them both regularly, but MGS4 is years ahead of its time, and Mass Effect 2 is only days ahead of its time. Bioware should have learned from konami's mistakes, not made them worse.
Going get the mgs 1-3 play that then get stuck on 4.... damn i really would like to see an anime movie or series on this before it gets stupid like resident evil movies...... but then agian who cares........ its too good of a story shit this the only game that me stop playing ff .

@Ganadokiller you mean naked snake (big boss) or the fact that the aging process was gonna kill snake outside of gameplay because I thought it was good he could go calmly rather than get killed in battle or something although I guess snake woul never be killed in battle he's to good
I'm curious, does anyone know the track that is played right after Liquid Ocelot's death? The one where Hal is going through a little speech about the effects of the Virus Cluster that Sunny created? I can't seem to find it anywhere
Metal Gear franchise has grown so much since the MSX days. MGS 1 is still my favorite game of all time, it was a timeless classic and I still enjoy the game even today.
I wish Mr.Kojima would make his other series like Snatcher as popular as Metal Gear.
This guy and his team can create really amazing stuff.
@AdoreYouInAshXI Actually it is. The entirety of the main melody was first used in the MGS3 main theme. Go listen to it; search for Metal Gear Solid 3 Main Theme and it should be the first video.
If it's one thing Japanese game developers still have over American developers it's the ability to tell an engaging plot. Once this disappears from video games, i will stop playing and enjoy that I lived in the golden age of games like metal gear, final fantasy, dragon quest, etc. That being said Bioshock also had a really good plot (whoever made that...). Forget multiplayer, let me play a novel i can't put down. Go Metal Gear :D
the only problem i had with MGs storyline is that its so damn complicated lol... that may be because i only have played MGS4 because i got it for 20 bucks.. insane buy
@ChuckNorris924 I don't know if anyone has told you, but you have to play the enitre Metal Gear Solid series to completely appreciate it and totally know whats going on with the story. MGS4 is very good on its own, its much better after you play the PS1/2 games and even the PSP games.
@AloeVeraAV While Metal Gear for the NES was good back in its day, its not really required playing. At least I don't think so. Everything is explained in MGS1 and lets face it, going back to try and play old NES games just really isn't that fun.
@AdoreYouInAshXI I have to disagree with you pretty hard on that one. Most of the NES games are still fun, example these are not so great of one but kinda hard. Megaman, ninja Gaiden, and much more. Not to mention at least the bosses in those cames were a hell of a lot harder then most of the newer games. Hell most of them dont even got a blasted final boss. :\ its BS and when they do there to damn easy. I want a challange like the NES bosses
Anybody else here looking forward to the new Castlevania game? I know it's not a "true" Kojima game, but it looks like KP's influence might turn that into another emotionally stirring title from Konami. :-D

Awesome graphics, best soundtrack I've ever heard in a videogame, breathtaking and complex story, fun and addictive gameplay. I LOVED THIS GAME <3 <3 One of my favourites.

You never know though, i bet Hideo isnt quite done with snake yet. Hideo always is very secretive and sly about things. Perhaps there is some way snake comes back, you never know.
@F8DecidesYou I think Hideo shoudl doa remake of the first two. the ones for the NES simply called Metal Gear in the same way metal gear solid is in 3-D. that would be a good and tasteful way to give us more of Snake. I jsut feel snake earned his rest and shouldn't have to do anymore new missions

It's just sad. Solid Snake has been our hero since what? Late 1980s? Now he is gone. What? Snake has been a figure for Playstation and now who is it Raiden? For all we know, Snake is gone for good. It is sad because he has been with us for so long and now he is gone. We miss him and I hope somehow he will come back. Then we will miss all the cool villians that Snake has been known to fight. Imagine losing Mario. How would that feel. Mario is a face for Nintendo. Snake is gone and he was for PS.

Metal Gear Solid is a story, thats why people care so much about Snake's charecter. Mario, its save the princess blah blah the works. But hey, give Raiden a chance, you dont know intill you've played the next installment, you never know. If Hideo was able to make an epic such as Snake, Raiden's gatta have a pretty decent shot atleast.
@Shmootle Exactly, people need to stop bieng so pissed and saying metal gear riseing is going to suck. Snake's story is told, he's done with his legacy. I'm sure he'll be mentioned several times in the next game atleast, just give it a chance.
Dont get me wrong though, Snake is awesome, he's been the hero for all the Metal Gears (well, exept MGS2) His story has been told and we can atleast enjoy what it was. What do you think happens to charecters that never seam to end eventualy? .....Sonic the Hedgehog games... -.-
Raiden had it's own battle to fight in MGS2, he was young at the time but as you saw in MGS4 he gained alot more experience and Snake respects him. He will too, become as great as Snake.
I agree. Many people hated Raiden because they just kept comparing him to Snake and he "replaced" Snake in MGS 2, but if you see Raiden in another way, you may actually like his character.

MGS is the best game saga I've ever played and I've had so many great moment's playing it.
The closest thing to MGS is Halo , and it's still miles behind it.

@fluteofdemise Best storylines: 1) Metal Gear Solid 2) ICO/Shadow of the colossus 3) God of War 4) inFamous (mostly the original, infamous 2 dropped the ball at a point) 5) Zelda 6) Fallout (yes, I'm aware that the player shapes the story, but any way they do so, it plays out masterfully) 7) Uncharted 8) Mass Effect 9) Halo 10) Gears of War... Assassin's Creed would probably be 11th for me.

@Hinaloth But Mass Effect, while an overall great package, still has all of the cons that metal gear does (loading times, install, lengthy cutscenes - unskippable in mass effect), and few of the pros... the only pro I can think of that it shares is the epic sound track. I own both MGS4 and ME2 and play them both regularly, but MGS4 is years ahead of its time, and Mass Effect 2 is only days ahead of its time. Bioware should have learned from konami's mistakes, not made them worse.

Metal Gear franchise has grown so much since the MSX days. MGS 1 is still my favorite game of all time, it was a timeless classic and I still enjoy the game even today.
I wish Mr.Kojima would make his other series like Snatcher as popular as Metal Gear.
This guy and his team can create really amazing stuff.

If it's one thing Japanese game developers still have over American developers it's the ability to tell an engaging plot. Once this disappears from video games, i will stop playing and enjoy that I lived in the golden age of games like metal gear, final fantasy, dragon quest, etc. That being said Bioshock also had a really good plot (whoever made that...). Forget multiplayer, let me play a novel i can't put down. Go Metal Gear :D

@ChuckNorris924 I don't know if anyone has told you, but you have to play the enitre Metal Gear Solid series to completely appreciate it and totally know whats going on with the story. MGS4 is very good on its own, its much better after you play the PS1/2 games and even the PSP games.

@AloeVeraAV While Metal Gear for the NES was good back in its day, its not really required playing. At least I don't think so. Everything is explained in MGS1 and lets face it, going back to try and play old NES games just really isn't that fun.

@AdoreYouInAshXI I have to disagree with you pretty hard on that one. Most of the NES games are still fun, example these are not so great of one but kinda hard. Megaman, ninja Gaiden, and much more. Not to mention at least the bosses in those cames were a hell of a lot harder then most of the newer games. Hell most of them dont even got a blasted final boss. :\ its BS and when they do there to damn easy. I want a challange like the NES bosses

You never know though, i bet Hideo isnt quite done with snake yet. Hideo always is very secretive and sly about things. Perhaps there is some way snake comes back, you never know.

@F8DecidesYou I think Hideo shoudl doa remake of the first two. the ones for the NES simply called Metal Gear in the same way metal gear solid is in 3-D. that would be a good and tasteful way to give us more of Snake. I jsut feel snake earned his rest and shouldn't have to do anymore new missions

It's just sad. Solid Snake has been our hero since what? Late 1980s? Now he is gone. What? Snake has been a figure for Playstation and now who is it Raiden? For all we know, Snake is gone for good. It is sad because he has been with us for so long and now he is gone. We miss him and I hope somehow he will come back. Then we will miss all the cool villians that Snake has been known to fight. Imagine losing Mario. How would that feel. Mario is a face for Nintendo. Snake is gone and he was for PS.

@amitnayna01 But mario doesnt realy have an epic story... hell he doesnt have a story line at all... thats why its sucha big franchise. Metal Gear Solid is a story, thats why people care so much about Snake's charecter. Mario, its save the princess blah blah the works. But hey, give Raiden a chance, you dont know intill you've played the next installment, you never know. If Hideo was able to make an epic such as Snake, Raiden's gatta have a pretty decent shot atleast.

@Shmootle Exactly, people need to stop bieng so pissed and saying metal gear riseing is going to suck. Snake's story is told, he's done with his legacy. I'm sure he'll be mentioned several times in the next game atleast, just give it a chance.

Dont get me wrong though, Snake is awesome, he's been the hero for all the Metal Gears (well, exept MGS2) His story has been told and we can atleast enjoy what it was. What do you think happens to charecters that never seam to end eventualy? .....Sonic the Hedgehog games... -.-

Raiden had it's own battle to fight in MGS2, he was young at the time but as you saw in MGS4 he gained alot more experience and Snake respects him. He will too, become as great as Snake.

I agree. Many people hated Raiden because they just kept comparing him to Snake and he "replaced" Snake in MGS 2, but if you see Raiden in another way, you may actually like his character.
Solid Snake, of course, cannot be replaced...
