Every waiter in the restaurant I work at (Im a hostess -3) is paid minimum wage, and some literally rely on tips just to make rent/car payments/gas/etc. You aren't paid enough to survive paycheck to paycheck, another job is critical just to support yourself. @LunaJohannaLeigh I'm guessing you dont know that servers dont get paid the normal minimum wage. in georgia the minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, i am a server and i get 2.13 an hour plus tips, and i have to tip out my bartenders at the end of the night. you tip your server because we bust our ass to impress you so we can get a good tip. our paychecks every two weeks are less than 100 dollars. we make a living off of our tips.

@MrBcsalt I work in one of the top resturants in Ottawa, crazier than the resturant in this movie, and I've never seen that nor heard of anyone ever doing that. It's likely to have happened but it's more of a myth than actual fact, so don't worry. The common thing for resturant staff is to bitch out the customer, and believe me you won't be welcomed back.
Most restaurants I've worked in so far, including my current one have open kitchens. Which means the customers can actually see the line and what the cooks are doing. Gotta love this movie...it doesn't matter if you are eating at a 4-star restaurant or Jimmy's Chicken Shack; if you are an asshole, your food WILL get fucked with. Be courteous to your server, and you will get courtesy and great service in return, regardless of what you leave for gratuity. Think about that next time you eat out.

@AdamJLemon Will add to this that should you leave bad gratuity, I would strongly recommend never returning to that restaurant. Many servers WILL remember you. Especially if you were just being cheap!

@EmileSabetiMehr Sometimes that's just how restaurants are. That's why it's nice to eat somewhere with an open kitchen -- sucks for the servers, great for customers. Also, don't argue, don't be rude to those who serve you stuff.
