I am so excited , I was asked to play the french horn accompanyment for this song and it is so beautiful.. cant wait to start playing it with my school's choir(:
I remember singing this song my 9th grade year. We dedicated it to one of our teachers who passed away unexpectedly after he knee surgery. The directors notes also are very touching. This is a glorious performance. Gave me chills.
I sang this song my senior year in high school in 09' and i absolutely loved it! my favorite of all time. It reminded me of my grandfather who died the first week of senior year, In my heart I was singing it for him. Now I sing it for my father who just past a few months ago from cancer.
I am singing this piece for Western Division Honor Choir and Jeffery Ames is our director!! It is going to be the best moment of my life since we are singing it in the St. Augustine cathedral in Tucson, AZ
we are singing this song for our choir director because its his last year with us. its probably my favorite besides go lovely rose by Whitacre. great job!
:O My Chorus teacher told us the story behind it, and ohmahgee. It was. . .the saddest thing ever. Anyway, we're doing it for spring concert this year~
The man who wrote it, Ames, it was either his wife and two daughters, or a really close friend's wife and daughters, they got into a huge, fiery car wreck and they died. I didn't mean to sound so. . . clipped when I said that, sorry.
what i heard when we did this song was that the man who wrote this wrote it because is friend and the friends daughter died, but i didnt know it was in a wreck. but it was the husband from what i heard not a wife
I am getting the chance to go to Honolulu the first week of April with my school choir to perform and we were asked to sing this at Pearl Harbor one day we are there. I will be sure to post a video of how we did. You guys did amazing in this one!!
The first time I heard this song was three years ago, at ISSMA state concert choir competition. My sister was singing it with her choir, and I distinctively remember it was the first time I've ever been moved by a song. The line "My heart is in distress" really stuck with me.
We recently received this repertoire from our director, we sight read right when we got it, and i was instantly moved by this piece. I am a baritone and i love my part as it quickly lets me remember my past experiences with my choir, and i miss it dearly, thank you for posting this song, i really needed to hear it.
i love this song so much. we sang this for our large group state contest and got a perfect score on it. then about 4 months later my grandpa passed away and i couldnt turn this song off. . . this song really means a lot to me when i play it. it is such a great piece.
beautiful song.. this one always makes me cry.. last year they dedicated this song to someone who passed away in the choir and being there at the concert, seeing the emotion of the performers.. it really got me.. but i still love this song
this song is amazing! we did it with louisiana all state choir 2 years ago. I sang S1.. so i know how difficult those parts are! it is such a sad but beautiful piece. yall did it justice.
this is just an amazing song! i love it. u guys did and awsome job singing it. im from Upper Darby High School in PA and our concert choir is singing this, n ive heard it about 3 times and everytime i hear it, i have the same incredible feeling come to me. i hope we can do justice to this song that it deserves.
i absolutly love this song! we sang this song my sophmore year at Rex Putnam High School and this was the most challenging piece mostly b/c my sister had died a few weeks before we learned this song and the words expressed the way i had felt, and every time we sang the most powerful part i would ALWAYS break down and cry. Good Job guys for doing this song justice, it's abolutly amazing sounding!
That's kind of sad... I am glad you love the song. I love it, too. I also like to remember the time I was doing the song even if it is just four months ago.

this is an 8 part song, I hardly believe you did even remotely well, and gold festivels only accept high schools, as policy.

My initial thoughts are that I hear a great amount of emotion in the text and tone. Excellent opening.
My first qualm is the vowel on the word "gracious", too tall, in my opinion.
The "Oh god" section was well done! One of the first choirs I've heard so far not to over-sing, excellent.
When my choir sang it, we performed with a cello, a beautiful artistic choice. Your horn player was excellent.
Well done!
