  • @jeff55jeff32 i do arms parralel to the floor in bench press, the chest doesnt work beyond this point, just the shoulders and back, this is why people hump their back into the air and get sore shoulders. Only touch the chest if you are a powerlifter entering events; thems the rules, I never go below parralel to the floor with my arms in bench press and have not hurt my shoulders in years and my chest has outgrown the rest of my body, hope ur shoulder mends soon

  • I think it depends on what your trying to do. Are you trying to hit more of your tricep. Some people put a stack on their chest to target the tricep. but its just an option, and i get what you meant in the video. Even though some pro body builders like jay cutler do bench press were they dont touch their chest and theyve won Mr. Olympia multiple times. also if you dont train your rotator cuffs with very light weight that could be a reason you plateau.

  • if the bar doesnt hit your chest... thats perfectly fine. when you let the bar hit your chest your hyper extending your shoulders and damaging your rotator cuff, going 90 degrees is just as good and better on your shoulders

  • Hey Chris, what do you think about eating nuts in between meals. I find it quit hard to eat 6 small meals a day, so I try to get my 3000 cal through that.

  • Only thing i've seen that your wrong saying. Bringing the bar all the way to your chest during bench is overstretching the exercise. justbring your arms to a 90 degree angle.

  • @xcalico1 No not at all, you probably shouldnt listen to whoever told you that... chest and triceps go together back and biceps go together, as in you will work back when you are doing bicep you will work bicep when you do back... same for chest etc....

    chest press and arm curls are basic semi isolated exercises that should never go together on the same day... unless your doing a full body workout which i still believe these should not be incorporated...

  • @Beast0087 Hes saying he did all these excercises with BAD FORM. You can do these if you properly balance the weight and use GOOD FORM. If you EVER do a 1 rep MAX, it does NOTHING for you at all and is a waste of your time.

  • people with longer arms shouldnt touch their chest because it causes extreme streaching of the muscle fibers which under pressure can cause injury. most people with long arms put a rolled up rag on top of their chest and touch the rag and rep it out.

  • @tubester92 That's false. I'm 6'3" with a 6'7" wingspan and I always touch my chest. Also I train several basketball players that are over 6'8" and they all touch their chest. The key is to start light, get a full range of motion and build strength from there. CK.

  • @TSuperChallenge Touching your chests tears your rotator cuff. I've had plenty of doctors confirm this. Thats how I tore my rotator cuff. Most experts recommend stopping just an inch or two from your chests Thats why dumbell presses are so much safer and better for your shoulders and rotator cuff.

  • @TSuperChallenge If you are tall (I'm 6'3") and you bring the bar all the way down to your chest and bring your arms beyond 90 degrees, doesn't this engage your shoulders and take the emphasis away from your chest?

  • @TSuperChallenge well you allready have a ripped chest so when you do the bench press till a 90° angle you automatically touch your chest , when you arent ripped and are just starting going to a 90° angle will be enough or else you can injure your shoulders really bad

  • @TSuperChallenge yeah I'm 5'9 with a 6'2 wingspan and it is obviously harder to bench more weight but if you do as TSuperChallenge says and start light and touch your chest you will thank yourself in the long run.

  • @TSuperChallenge Well I bet you have rotarcuff problems..Beacuse I used to touch my chest for about 2 years of lifting and had weird pains in my shoulder..Then I found out the other way and tried that for about a year and havent had any problems since then.

  • @TSuperChallenge In highschool I was taught not to touch my chest, but bring the bar down till my arms were at a 90 degree bend. Eventually I plateaued on bench at about 225lb. At this point I actually started learning how to work out correctly, and started benching from scratch but touching my chest (and a few other changes)... After about a year I can now bench my old 1RM for sets of 8+ and still growing stronger. Its amazing the gains you have when you exercise properly.

  • To add to CK's comment about (2*10+2*5+2*2.5)!=25, he's totally right. Because of the horizontal stretch of the weight, the bar will actually be heavier on the side with the multiple plates vs. the one 25.

  • Very funny but Smith Bench Press is very effective and importantly safe for people who train without a spotter. Also bench pressing doesn't have to touch the chest; elbows should stop at approx parallel to the floor. Any further and it can places excessive strain on the elbow joint. Funny vid though.

  • Haha, Reminds me of my time in the gym before TSC HOC. I got so fed up back then that I quit going for several years. TSC HOC is what actually got me training with weights again because I finally had a guide to how to do it right instead of just mimicking all the idiots doing it wrong in the gym and not getting any results.
