Only touch the chest if you are a powerlifter entering events; thems the rules, I never go below parralel to the floor with my arms in bench press and have not hurt my shoulders in years and my chest has outgrown the rest of my body, hope ur shoulder mends soon

Only thing i've seen that your wrong saying. Bringing the bar all the way to your chest during bench is overstretching the exercise. justbring your arms to a 90 degree angle.
@xcalico1 No not at all, you probably shouldnt listen to whoever told you that... chest and triceps go together back and biceps go together, as in you will work back when you are doing bicep you will work bicep when you do back... same for chest etc....
chest press and arm curls are basic semi isolated exercises that should never go together on the same day... unless your doing a full body workout which i still believe these should not be incorporated...

@TSuperChallenge Touching your chests tears your rotator cuff. I've had plenty of doctors confirm this. Thats how I tore my rotator cuff. Most experts recommend stopping just an inch or two from your chests Thats why dumbell presses are so much safer and better for your shoulders and rotator cuff.

@TSuperChallenge In highschool I was taught not to touch my chest, but bring the bar down till my arms were at a 90 degree bend. Eventually I plateaued on bench at about 225lb. At this point I actually started learning how to work out correctly, and started benching from scratch but touching my chest (and a few other changes)... After about a year I can now bench my old 1RM for sets of 8+ and still growing stronger. Its amazing the gains you have when you exercise properly.
i think bringing the weight down fast and bouncing it off your chest, nearly crushing your sternum so the bounce brings it back up is worse than hips raised during bench. agree?
To add to CK's comment about (2*10+2*5+2*2.5)!=25, he's totally right. Because of the horizontal stretch of the weight, the bar will actually be heavier on the side with the multiple plates vs. the one 25.

Very funny but Smith Bench Press is very effective and importantly safe for people who train without a spotter. Also bench pressing doesn't have to touch the chest; elbows should stop at approx parallel to the floor. Any further and it can places excessive strain on the elbow joint. Funny vid though.

Haha, Reminds me of my time in the gym before TSC HOC. I got so fed up back then that I quit going for several years. TSC HOC is what actually got me training with weights again because I finally had a guide to how to do it right instead of just mimicking all the idiots doing it wrong in the gym and not getting any results.
