It's almost July. Is it too late to plant strawberries this year? I live in Southern CA and wanted to use a strawberry pot. What do you think? Can I still plant them this year?
@who885 ,wow, my friend, im going to let you in on a lil secret. Who gives a F!@# what other people think, if you saw me you would never in a million years think i garden, im a big 27 year old white guy who is into metal! Do what you want(as long as you dont infringe on other peoples rights) because its your life! live it to the fullest! dont worry about what other people will think, if their good people they will respect you and what you want or like to do.
@tylianna The runners are new plants. The idea from many professional growers is that even the runners start to decrease as well after time as the plant exhausts itself. It is good to try new varieties every couple of years anyway.
cut back on the new shoots that are growing out. This will focus the growth into fruit production. after they fruit you can allow the shoots to grow long again... these can become you plants for next season.
depending on where you live they should be an perennial. you should only have to replace them once every 4-6 years (they get tired). They should keep coming back...

@recipes4robyn nope. if you can find them, you can plant them. Just keep them well watered during those hot days!

Can you use the runners to "replace" the plants or do you have to buy new plants every 4-6 years?
