I was fortunate enough to have meet Ian Millar. I was at his farm to watch an event, and i got his autograph in a book about Ben. The man is the best rider and an exceptional person.
Ian Miller & Big Ben, The Giants of Showjumping. I started riding back in 1998, I remember at the first barn I rode at there was a poster of Big Ben on the day he retired, with the year and the words "Au Revoir Big Ben" ) I was so deeply impressed I had to find out more... 13 years later, I'm still riding Ian is still my hero. He's the best a top showjumper who has never forgotten the precious lessons in learning to ride like a hunter. Quiet, controlled, gentle and above all, efficient.
big ben retired in 1994 and eric lamaze made his international debut in 1992, so a horse that would have spent all his life with one rider or have 2 yrs with a young gun who hadn't been to an olympics or world championships, they probs wern't gonna change the rider, and Ian owns this horse, and also had success on other horses not just Big Ben, Big Ben was a freak who would have won no matter who or how skilled a rider was!
Wow Big Ben just pops over the fences as if he where doing grid work!, and his rider is awsome, he takes hin nice and smoothly round the course, I have to say thing horse and rider are amazing :D
Big Ben had an exceptional rider. Ian handled him better than anybody else, and if anyone thinks Eric Lamaze would have been better for Big Ben, I might have to punch someone's jaw in.
the man knows how to ride, I look at him and look at some of these 17 year olds on 900k horses and it makes me sick. he's so soft, yet he manages to ride the hardest horses and make it gentle.
Do any of you(with the exeption of phpa1993, wooohooo and mightymouth4ever) even know who Ian Miller is? I wouldn't be critisicing of him, hes only one of the most famous Canadian riders ever!
