  • 1453 Fatih Sultan Mehmed : Sultanim!

  • ?????

  • I am just pushing a bit on categories. The Ottomans used a many Greeks, Armenians, Slavs, Italians and so on as members of their ruling elites. While the empire was been ruled by a Turkic Sultan it was managed by a multiethnic officialdom who defined themselves as Ottoman subjects. So that is why Turkish ruled is somewhat inaccurate. Now in modern nationalist discourse we have things simpler so that we can easily hate each other. In history things are more complex and fascinating.

  • @Dimik72 you really hate greek history. i put it down to jelousy. im guesssing you are turkish, if thats true, tell me one peice of history your country has that doesnt influence hatred and war.

  • You defined yourself as Greek. No Byzantine ever did that until Plethon, whose works were burned by the clergy. So unless you feel Roman, you appreciate your Roman past, and you think of Rome as the roots of your history and culture, then you are not Byzantine. You bear cultural traits associated with Byzantium but Orthodoxy was just part of the Byzantine Roman identity. The rest is modern Greek national fiction. Nothing bad with it. All nations use fictions like that, it is just not history.

  • @Dimik72 We define ourselves as greeks as we are. But there is no Greek without being Roman and no Roman without being Greek.

  • @Dimik72 You haven't fully understood the meaning of the word "Roman", so you make some mistakes.

The name Roman stopped being a national/racial name and became a political term. This happened gradualy & naturally because of the great expansion & of the mentality of the Roman empire and was formalized in 212 AD (Constitutio Antoniana).

So, being Roman doesn't mean you can't be Greek or Armenian etc.

  • Hagia Sofia is Greek, no one denies that, do they?? The thing is unlike the mosques in Greece, Hagia Sofia has been taken good care till now! It has been under Turkish ruled country for more than last 550 years and you can come visit to see this beauty and you are always welcome! I really would like to see the friendship of Greece and Turkey even more strenghten! We should promote the friendship not conflicts. You gotta see this song from: watch?v=wuR3cstWoCE

  • @kahvevotka Actually the Hagia Sophia is Roman. The building was created by the Roman Emperor Justinian. It is the apex of Roman architecture, built with cement and bricks (both perfected by the Romans). No Byzantine ever considered HS as Greek. In fact no Byzantine ever felt Greek, unless he were an erudite musing about Plato. Also, the HS has indeed been well taken care of by the Ottomans and then the Turks. But the two are not the same. There were non-Turkish Ottomans (the majority in fact).

  • @Dimik72 Thank you for the clarification on Roman Greek issue :) but about Ottoman thing i did not understand your claim, i used "Turkish ruled country" for Ottoman and today's Turkiye ??

  • @kahvevotka are you from turkey?

  • @kody17166 yes?

  • @kahvevotka i am from greece you have a point but there are many things tha keep apart turkey and greece like constantinoupole

  • @kody17166 sure, but the thing is what we are focusing on! We have issues to solve, we all know that but we also have countless common things that make us one. We should be able to talk about our issues but when you start to talk only about your issues it is not showing the reality. It is making harder to solve our problems and it is spreading the hate. As people start to communicate, they are feeling more closed to each other which helps solving issues, which helps enjoying the life together

  • @kahvevotka what's your name?

  • Comment removed

  • @kahvevotka i send you a friendship invitation in youtube

  • Στην Πόλη στην Αγιά Σοφιά, δακρύζει πάντα η Παναγιά γι’ αυτούς που έφυγαν διωγμένοι μες στα πλοία.

  • Agia sofia is Greek !!

  • Hagia sophia is a church, not a mosque

  • I am a historian. I produced this video two years ago for my students. Could the Greek and Turkish nationalist neanderthals who post here just take their fight to some street away from here. This is about a monument that is significant as a way to understand an important long deceased civilization. The complexes of testosterone filled Greeks and Turks who can barely write and can certainly not communicate in basic civility are not of interest to me.

  • @Dimik72

Thank you for this video. The sound is a bit indistinct, but the images are wonderful! I agree with you about the quarreling and bickering comments and would like to suggest that you set your video so that you moderate all comments? That way, you can approve what is and is not posted on your video.

  • @Dimik72 The civilization Proffesor is not deceased, we are 300 million strong we are called the Eastern Orthodox Church. We may have had been run out and genocide against us but we still exist. Please do not forget about the 4th Crusade your students will find that facinating as is the beautiful building dedicated to christ.

  • @TheDingoSA I am afraid that there is no historical reason for considering the 300 million Orthodox people as one entity. The Byzantine certainly never felt that way and were happy to gouge the eyes of Bulgarian enemies. As for the modern Orthodox, well two Balkan wars showed well how united they are. My students do find the 4th Crusade fascinating. I do not, however, use it to make them hate westerners and exalt Orthodoxy. I just teach it and let them think for themselves.

  • @Dimik72 Dear Proffesor I stated we are "300 million strong", and the fastest growing Christian faith in the world. We are stronger in faith now, especially in the aftermathof the divisions of Serbia.Times have Changed.

Has the West not bombed it's own Christian brothers? The 4th Crusade led to an eventual dramatic change in World History, where you have the spread of little mohammadittes spread through out the Balkans and now the known world.I also would not wish anyone to hate Westerners .

  • @Dimik72 DEATH TO CANADA KILL ALL BRITS KILL ALL SCOTS. BRITISH AND DCOTTISH ARE NEANDERTHALS

ALL EUROPEAN LANGUAGES AND LATIN LANGUAGE ARE GREEK CREATION

AND THE GREEKS CREATED THE HUMANITY

THE GREEKS ARE MOST SMARTEST PERSONS EVER

THE GREEKS CREATED THE WORLDWIDE POLITISM

    THE GREEKS CREATED THE MUSIC

    THE GREEKS CREATED CIVILAZATION

THE GREEKS CREATED THR LOGIC OF HUMANITY BRAIN

ART, CULTURE, KNOWLEDGE, PHILOSOFY ALL THEY ARE BY GREEKS. AND MANY OTHERS.

  • THE HAGIA SOPHIA IS GREEK

  • @Dimik72 Dear Sir not in theory, but in reality there is nothing deceased about Byzantium. We are alive.I may be proud of My Greek heritage but I am a Christian first with family roots in Constantinople for many years.I am not dead I am living proof of a Byzantine Orthodox in Life , In Faith, and as Jesus Christ as My God.My Churchs Coat of Arms is that Of The New Rome.the two headed Eagle, black and Gold, as it is my Family's.We date back to the Emperor Paleologos.

  • @TheDingoSA And again, I do not intend to argue with how you want to feel. We are all entitled to our own identities. The Byzantine identity was, however, a cultural, linguistic, religious, and political identity that produced strong allegiances to a specific political community. It is impossible to reconstruct that. It ended in 1453. We are all in some ways heirs to aspects of it if we come from the Balkans, whether we are Greeks, Slavs, or Turks.

  • @Dimik72 Yes least Sir and I do not argue with you.We all have our Identities. As Omogenia of the Empire that Ended in Constantinople in 1453,Many of us still continue at least our Faith in Christianity. We hold a stong bond to Constantinople and the Founding fathers of our Faith after Christ. But we also trace our roots.

Have a blessed day and thank you for your insight.

  • @AnarchistRebellion

Mmmmm... i'm not sure your statement is true. Who invented mathematics and who were the architects?

I'll answer it for you, the two architects were both mathematicians Isidore and Anthemius tought and trained by muslim mathematicians. Arabs ie muslims invented maths by the way. Thus, the hagia sofia would not be there was it not for muslim inginuity. The muslims are well capable of making magnificent buildings, the blue mosque for example. Can you defend your statment?

  • @Donvalerio I am sorry to be critical but if you look at a timeline of history you will note that Islam appeared on the scene in the 7th century and the Hagia Sophia was built in the sixth. Mathematics is a field where Greeks did excel even if of course they owe a lot to Mesopotamian and Egyptian advances that came before them.

The great Mosques of Istanbul all came at least a thousand years after the Hagia Sophia and aimed to surpass the HS. I leave it to you to decide if they succeeded.

  • @Donvalerio i sure can! the blue mosque was built about thousand plus years after agia sophia why agia sophia is still standing with its enormous dome? and today they still cant figure out how they didit those days ? well lets see, nothing in modern turkey is historically there own but greek. greek Rigorous arguments first appeared in Greek mathematics, most notably in Euclid's Elements. Mathematics continued to develop, China in 300 BC, in India in AD 100, and in the Muslim world in AD 800,

  • islam always claim everything is theirs. even this beutiful church. they even convert it by putting those excess arabic decorations around the church.perhaps its to claim that they build that buiding and its theirs.

  • The MuSLIMES could never build something this magnificent, they needed to steal other people's labors.

  • hahhahah what about Taj mahal? and what about Alhmabara in Spain??

  • @AnarchistRebelIion MUSLIMS built the west mate, hugia was a shitty church muslims turned it in to a beautiful mosque

  • @Angles786

HAHA, have you seen the interior of the Hagia Sophia? When the MuSLIMES got a hold of it, they trashed it. What alterations did they make to it? The only thing they touched was the interior which USED to be decorated with gorgeous iconography. Now it is dilapidated with pealing wallpaper and stupid ass MuSLIME writing everywhere.

YOU DESECRATE WHAT YOU TOUCH YOU PARASITIC VERMIN!

  • @AnarchistRebelIion who created Taj mahal??? come and visit Mughal architecture in India and Pakistan!!

  • @AnarchistRebelIion Unfortunately, even in this time and era there are uptight, arrogant and fools like you. I don't want to start a debate about Muslims and Christains, bur what do you think about the Taj Mahal. Its probably the most majestic piece of architecture. And it was built by Muslims.

  • @AnarchistRebelIion What about suleymaniye mosque? it was build by sinan, muslim of course

    ;)

  • Inter-faith intolerance has sparked the bloodiest conflicts in human history. It would appear to me that you all prefer spewing hate messages on the internet for this reason. I am particularly ashamed of my fellow Christians who, rather than embrace others indiscriminately (as emulated by Christ himself), choose to shout condemnations at random strangers in cyberspace, as if they have the authority judge them. Same goes for Muslims; they should let Allah himself judge a person's value, not man.

  • In addition, as EcCctoplasma does, we should take pride in our beliefs. However, let us not condemn others for the sake of our pride.

  • it is ISTANBUL , NOT STH ELSE , YOU MAN !!!

  • Bwahaha Jealousy!!! Go sufficate from your jealousy man... Turkey is the most fucking beautiful country in the world, it has the most beautiful, caring and supporting people in the world. This makes you sanddiggers jealous. I dont give a flying fuck what happened to the Armenians, Genocide?? who fucking cares they are dead now and they probably deserved it.

  • This is his personal opinion... I believe most Turks will not endorse this statement.

  • what about the armenian genolie?

  • the christian genocide that was perpetrated is definitely not a lie. I have family members that lived in that time, in the area. It wasn't just armenians though... if you were christian, your life was at risk... whether you were coptic, assyrian, or armenian. read the flickering light of asia for historically PROVEN accounts of what took place. :-)

  • @wyldeone22 dont forget the greeks in the area, close to 2million dead and 3 more affected

  • Profecy say : the turks will pay...the heaven will rain fire to thems...

the Greeks will return ...and the earth will shake !!

  • Constantinopole..

    We will be back!

  • hahahahahahaha

  • hahahahaha very funny

  • WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT

  • I liked the video. It was well done. Your audio quality needs improvement though. The sound is indistinct. Slow down just a bit with your narrative and, I can't stress it enough...clear pronunciation and elucidation counts! I had to use headphones and review some audio several times to understand what was being said. That said, you're on the right track. Keep them coming. :)

  • Well I am still learning. Look at this as a trial balloon. I have bought a proper microphone but I also have a busy street off my desk. I need to learn how to properly clear the sound. thanks for the comments though.
