In Ireland ppl like Region1 are commonly called begrudgers. On the internet they are remarkably LIKE religious zealots. In the States the Puritans were described as ppl who "lived in fear that someone, somewhere was having a good time." And you don't have to be religious (coz I'm sure not) to feel the joy here. The only reason R1 would even be here is to rain on ppl's fun and assert dominance on a thread in the guise of "wisdom."
to all the science believers over religion.. i completely agree with you. Because Judaism is not a religion.
Judaism is G-d's need. People preffer to stay athiests in order to live comfortably. people rather choose to NOT know the truth because if they did, they wouldnt be able to live their dirty unholy life style.
but back to the topic.. if u say u dont believe in religion, but believe in science - your contradicting yourself.
science is man-discovered.. just like all the religions were.
Dude you are so funny!!!! you where the only guy who stood out in the crowd. Lol halachically you can charge him when they get married. in shemiam you will get credit for your good work.
That's fine, but it's nice to think you'd be going there if there were one; besides, helping people find each other and fall in love is a nice thing to do, as it makes life in this world a lot more fun.
You should do what I do and hang out with goys. They're nicer and won't bug you about observing the holidays. Plus they have more fun since they're not held back by religious rules.
I decided that this was what I believed true. I have a general tendency to try to figure out what's right and then act on it. So I decided to convert. My parents were so happy, they threw me out on the street. :-P
Was it really a decision or a lack of one? Please think about this, dear brother.
p.s. Maimonides-The RMB"M says, that in order to find G-d, you have to look for him. And then you will find him; through His creations and actions, and will come to love Him. Have a good day
I have learnt from my rabbis that one is not allowed to argue with an arguer. the reason is simple: Our rabbis explain that one who is arguing is doing so only out of excuse - so as not to have to do the Mitzvos. However, if you are truly positive and are looking for the truth, I will consider you not wicked. Thus A) Have you tried to ssearch for a truth; what meaning is there to the world otherwise? If there's no meaning, what is there?? B) B) Do you know the specialty and happiness of Mitzvot?
"I have learnt from my rabbis that one is not allowed to argue with an arguer"
Learn to think for yourself, don't just believe what your authority figures tells you. Everything should be examined critically, and you're allowed to argue with whoever you want.
"one who is arguing is doing so only out of excuse- so as not to have to do the Mitzvos"
A sad attempt to get people to obey without thinking.
"Have you tried to search for a truth"
Any search for truth will involve facts, not religion.
Whoah! It's nice to hear you responding; so you're not so stone hearted.
B) What you are saying that we shodul look into things is exactly what I was saying - from Maimonidies - that that is how one finds G-d. You see, He has hidden Himself, and one has to look for Him. This is both the respect of the person - that he gets it through his effort, and, also, if we copuld see G-d,we would die; as the verse says.
B) Arguing can only physically be done with a seacher!
What I wrote about 'wicked' - was based on what you may know about the Four Sons in teh Passover Hagadda. The Torah speaks of 4 sons; One is wise; 1 wicked, 1 simple and 1 doesn't know to ask. The wise son asks about he commandments and we teach him. The wicked says 'what do we need this for'/ To him it says 'knock out his teeth - in other words, tell him to be quiet and say that if not for this [Passover offering] we would not have gone out of Egypt. Thus we elarn, that one must be inquisitive.
p.s. Here is another nice point. Please undersatnd that I am not trying to make an argument and I understand that every person is entitled to make decisions. I am only trying to help you get a mitzvah - and that is the one of knowing that there is a G-d! (if this is surprising -0 it's actually one of the commandments!). So I heard from a rabbi, in a videom, where someone asked if he can prove G-d. He started by saying that 'you admit that you didn't create yourself... somethings to think about!
I dont know what he says and I certainly dont plan on reading it. The reason is, because when someone has an agenda, he can say anything. If the title of the book were looking for the truth I would consider it. Even then, one has to know if the searcher was truly searching or if he was searching for a truth which would laden him with excuses to fulfill his agenda.
Now, I will end with one practical thing. Do you think he has read the book Cell Phones; Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age by Dr. George Carlo; the greatest epidemiologist in the US? Do you think he has read Sweet Deception (about artificial sweeteners) by Dr. Joseph Mercola; one of the greatest natural-health professionals in the US? My dear friend; I have! For the holy Torah commands us You shall guard your life very much. And so I am putting in the effort to. Have a great day!
A) Regarding what you it may be perceived as religion being a 'security blanket', this is only when one does not really know what it is. Moreover, what is the 'atheist' attitude all about? Is it not something which is a perceived good feeling? People say they are uncomfortable with religion; whether because of requirements or similar. But the truth is it is **the** way of life. Welcome!
p.s. My dear friend, about what the rabbi said about 'believing that one did not create himself. Let me elaborate. He continued: Therefore, it must be that someone who came before you created you. Who is this? One will say his parents, of course. However, the question is; does one remember being created? Quite frankly not! Thus, how does one know that his parents are actually them? Well, because they raised him up from day one and he looks like them and has similar voice (and DNA and all).
Youre responding quick but that Heaven I've done enough exercise to keep up!
1) Ultra Orthodox means doing more than the letter of the law.
And I have learnt science and graduated high-school and with a diploma signed by President Clinton (or his computer - but it has his signature). (The main mistake I made was confusing left and right (thinking of ones-self or looking at another person). But I want to tell you, these discussions are very special and I appreciate the opportunity to answer!
One more point: Of course the books did not speak about evolution but it was a good book to the point in all matters.
Respiratory, circulatory, nervous and digestive systems etc.
But think about it: Is the question of evolution a scientific one or religious one? I have learnt that there are actually many scientists who believe that the world has a creator and do not hold of big-bang etc. theories. It is important to know this. If ink spilt; what are the chances of getting a letter 'A'; a word?
My dear brother: if I would make this statement; what would you say? But the truth is as follows: What you are saying essentially is that it bothers you how I can answer if I have not been exposed to exactly what you have. Thus you should know and will be happy to that a great rabbi did. His name is Rabbi Avigdor Miller of blessed memory. With the permission of great rabbis, he would read these books in the bathroom so as to be able to explain to people! It is called: Rejoice O Youth. Enjoy

Natural Selection is the Theory.
Evolution is the observed data, the facts that need to be explained.
Creationists and ID folks usually are confused about this.
They call the data, "theory" and pretend it doesn't exist, so then they don't have to explain it.

As for artificial sweeteners and cell phones.. nice try changing the subject. We're talking about god and religion, not that other stuff.

1.) I am ethnically jewish but I don't practice the religion.
2.) I try to see the world for what it is. That means no god, and all religion is man-made.
