Actually, if you go back to the books, Ginny and Harry were kind of hinted from the beginning. Also, Harry is happy for a major part of the series to silently pine away for an unavailable girl, idealising her. Ginny came after the Ministry battle and the prophecy, when he was forced to mature, and both of them have the shared experience of being manipulated by Tom Riddle; she also challenges him; and unlike Cho, Harry kissed her. Hermione can't understand that; I actually love her and Ron.

Harry and Hermione have sooo much chemistry than any of the canon HP couples...and no one even saw Ginny coming until the 6th book when she was suddenly pushed down our throats....

U know what I always feel uncomfortable whenever Harry kisses Ginny.. It's like he's kissing a lamp post or a piece of wood coz seriously, the amount of chemistry that shows on screen is the same as the amount there is between voldermort and Molly weasley.

@helenadagreat Actually, Rowling had them together from the start. "Harry and Ginny are perfect soul mates. They are very strong and compassionate and that is their connection." - JK Rowling.

But I do agree, his attraction to Ginny in hbp was rather sudden. I think it could have been done better throughout the series. But what do you think Harry should have done? Pursue Hermione? She quite clearly prefers Ron.
