Generals today command from well protected HQs - far from the dangers they order their soldiers to face. At least these generals and marshalls led from the front! Let us not forget the 2,000,000 soldiers all over Europe that gave their lives in service to their monarchs and these commanders during the Napoleonic wars.
@SuperBradva Ya, its a pretty neat story. While rather blockheaded (if insanely brave) on the battlefield, they're very interesting people: some of my favorite marshals =)
@MiSeeley Generals are great man.I like a little more Ney than Murat.Davout and Lannes are also great, especially Davout and his masterpiece in Jenna and Auerstadt.War requires a little dose of lunacy.

Ney may not have been a stretegic or tactical genius, but his bravery, especially in Russia made him a more than worth Marshal

the death of all these brave men is unfortunate, they deserved a better fate

@SuperBradva Murat also gave the order to his firing squat as well: "Soldiers! Do your duty! Straight to the heart but spare the face. Fire!"

Quelle époque! Quel élan! Quelle nation! Quel exemple!
Merci
