@gooz38 C'mon, man. I'm sure you can troll harder than that. You can do it. I believe in you. Even if you become infected with STD's, believe that you're not infected by it even if it's life threatening.

Don't bother explaining this video to any of these idiots. They wouldn't understand discipline and practice even if it bit them in the ass. Get off call of duty you fags and get an education.
much respect to you for practicing and preserving this fine classic form. i look forward to watching the entire series. it must be hard to endure so many ignorant comments but as the saying goes " the emptiest drum makes the loudest noise"
I dont understand all this ceremony bs, there is no ceremony on battle field, if you move that slow and take over a minute to shoot an arrow then your useless
this form is not meant for the battlefield, or even hunting. This is called "kyudo", which is a meditative technique closely tied to Buddhism. The point of this, isnt even to hit the target. This form is often compared to sitting meditation practiced by Zen Buddhists. With respect to the speed, the archer is meditating, so of course it is slow. Kyujutsu, or the military application of japanese archery is what you are confusing this with...which to my knowledge isnt really practiced anymore.
ah wtf i hope in the olden days it didn't take the Samurai that long to fire 1 arrow. and wtf way that white panther looking thing? dood how could you not notice that?
Having owned one of Jaaps' bows if you ever get the chance to purchase one DO SO!! I owned one of his south Indian style bows and loved it. I will own one again! Apparently someone else loved it too, and swiped it.....If you want beautiful work, quality workmanship, and a great shooting bow, do yourself a favor!
Um can you show us how to do a three finger release close up on the yumi, I want to try to shoot an english long bow like it but am not sure if I am doing it right, the bow in question was made by steve thompson from woodside, he says you trained him.
anyway is it the thumb over string then the index finger over thumb and release or is it differant.
hi Japp, hope all's well with you and need some help...
know you have a DvD out of how to build them, and i've done websearch for now 3 days and still haven't been able to find one...if you could, please send me order info for one, i'd really appriciate it...
I was just wondering what the difference between a fiberglass and carbon fiber yumi. In terms of performance/durability. I have never done kyudo before but i would love to get a Yumi. I have a korean fiberglass bow, several recurves and a fiberglass mongolian bow. Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
@TheMHandDSfan well the japanese complicate everything even ZEN . they make the simplest thing into a [DO] away of enlightenment when it's not. It took the Brazilians to show them what Jujitsu was for.[the Gracies]
the koreans showed them what karate was for. [Mas Oyama] a bow is just a stick and a string and archery is the proper use of the bow just the simple mechanics.Ahhh SO Very Simple OSU Sensei
A heavy very long elb is going to be a lot heavier than a smaller composite recurve, and a lot less mass-efficient. To make my point even more specific, get a 60# high recurve composite and a 120#-30# elb. The impact will be the same, but since elb arrows are so heavy they will go a lot slower than a recurves arrows and therefore fall a lot shorter as well as not have the same penetrating power at such a high speed that the composites will.
the mongolian and persian horsebows were the fastest and most powerful thrashing the english longbows shooting distance by 4 times! Their recurved tips meant more energy was stored the arrows need were lighter to go faster and the bows were quicker. . Longbows were inefficient, so to make them more efficient heavier arrows to drain energy from the bow which meant it would shoot slower but have hard impact.
@asarta703 Really? While its true that composite bows store more energy, they are equal to longbows at hunting weights due to the high mass of their recurves. If anything turkish bows are known for their performance above all else. Longbows can be made just as fast as hornbows and if you knew half a cent about bow making you should know that. And seriously? How can you compare bow speed when you say that different weight arrows are being used? Troll.
If this was a battle he'd be dead by the time he shot that arrow. I'm just going to presume that when the samurai archers used these in battle they were quicker.
ok 2 fuc min to shoot that thing??? i don't wanna look ignorant but wtf whatever you wanna shoot with all that time kills you with a stick or just dies from boredoom:))) not for your arrow LOL
really cool! i used to take chinese kung fu. why is it that ancient eastern fighting traditions always have slow moving impractical things for killing techniques and in the west you always practice roughly the same as if you were in combat??? i learned so many things similar to this kind of movement that would never work in combat and would get you killed and if you take western boxing or even archery these are absent.
@weedmstr995 well my friend the reason Asian martial arts including Japanese always seem to practice in slow motion is for the same reason why they are so good when it comes to technique and precision. Asian martial artists always focus on precision, and alot of martial arts have shown the great results of all that slow training. Some things might look like they don't work in real life but trust me, you don't wana be up against a real samurai on horseback shooting a yumi, real speed lol.
The move he makes at the end, twisting the bow outwards, from his wrist, is the correct way to shoot and arrow with a yumi, in Kyudo style martial arts. The motion ensures a much more streight trajectory for the arrow, after releasing it from the bow, thoards the target. A long bow would require u to compensate by aiming slightlly to a side. I would like to see a yumi arrow shot, with-out that wrist mottion. My guess is, it would be inferior to a long bow.
@Koppedrayer I don't think the Yumi is better than the English Longbow. I know the draw weight of the Longbow averages around 150-160 lb, some even going up to 185 and could achieve penetration up to 200 yards. What is the draw weight of the Yumi?
@TofuKilleraxe the Japanese yumi requires years of training, usage, and discipline just to be able to use it correctly. Due to these requirements it is not the most ideal bow to outfit an army if your nation is at war in the past. the English longbow is mush simpler to use and does not require as much training to get the best out of it.
Obviously though the yumi has more potential if one has the patience and desire to use one.
@0ldSandwich the thing is he is demonstrating it really slowly. I have seen people shoot yumi on horseback, so you can fire them while moving and fire them pretty quickly too
@GuamKomudo Ask Jaap the guy in the video, he can make you one just like he made all the authentic bows for the last samuri movie with tom cruise, he uses the same method they do in japan and even the same urushi laquer finish, it will cause you about 800 or so, and they are made for kyudo not for hunting though they do have enough power if you have them made with enough draw weight, but they are about 7 foot tall and not practical for such things, though they do have enough power usually.
Kyuudo is just majestic... And beautiful form of archery, though it's not effective... But it ain't no problem, because it wasn't meant to be. By the way, what was this white creature in the background? Albino dog?

Step 2. Get your bow shooting tuxedo cleaned and pressed
Step 3. Have a bow shooting planer decorate everything at the range
Step 4.The big day has finally arrived
Step 5. Take 15 minutes to pick up bow and arrow and shoot
Step 6. Everyone claps, goes home and waits for you to shoot another arrow next week
