  • When I first heard this. while watching "Lady Sings the Blues".. I was a Pre- Teenager..So even though I felt the song inside my soul...I didn't understand the Magnitude of the Lyrics until i attended Black Studies in High School. It's very a very harsh look at American History. And always seems to take me back to the dark place..Great songs always seem to come from Tragedy..

  • i lost this version, been looking for it for ages

  • Touching? Beautiful? The song is about the lynching of a black man. Please listen. kthnxbai

  • @IceLanced You cannot deny the beauty of this song....Some of the most depressing songs in the world are the most touching...Maybe YOU should listen more because you're obviously missing the point of the whole song. kthxbai.

  • simply beautiful, touching the depths of your soul

  • This was actually a poem first, by Abel Meerolpol

  • Great courage by a great artist. Bless her.

  • quero chorar todas as vezes que eu ouço essa canção, triste pura e verdadeira, feita da mais pura agonia e sofrimento.

  • heroin kills.

  • no see, no feel punk!

  • I heard this song for the first time 26 years ago, in deep dark north England. Where there were no Strange fruit! Yet for some reason I got it, and she became my icon, and still is. Haunting yes, in away, real in so many other ways that are still true today.

  • haunting.

  • @kroyka Hi, Why is it haunting to you? PF

  • Great art by a great artist who was a genius.

  • I prefer this version than the studio one... So pure, it causes such an impact.

  • @MademoiselleNobs1973

    same with me.....by a lot.

  • This is my favorite version so far. The simplicity of it makes it very pure, direct and vulnerable. Her voice is like a velvet knife cutting through the soul. Amazing.

  • @Nesciio You couldn't put it better. I like the poetry in your remark.

  • Where did you get it from? :)

  • We love you Billie x

  • Durisima cancion... un alegato contra el racismo excepcional..... Maravillosa BILLIE. a kiss......)))
