you can use fl studio, reason, ableton. buy hardware synths, or use vsts. all of that doesn't matter, you just need to have creativity to do something nice and willpower you can get any achievment you want in music
Dude FL Studio is a top dollar program and can do so many things if its in the right hand. So if you suck a making music that you probably dont like fl studio.. But if your actually good then you will know how to use it and you will blow peoples minds ... !!

I guess I need to mess with Massive some more. I didn't really like it last time I used it. It seemed too..."metallic". I bought Largo which is similar, but has lots of filters to screw with--nice little synth. I have to say though, Absynth is still my favorite synth plug-in. Ah, so many toys, so little time. :D
Can you record Massive with garage band, im getting pro tools, but i just got massive and i already have garage band, just wondering how to record with massive.
I'm haveing problems with Massive on FL8. When I have Massive opened it plays fine when I am messing around with nothing playing just pressing keys. IT WORKS. BUT!! when I play the melody back, the sound itself changes and sounds nothing like the original sound. This is a huge problem for me. NI can't even answer my questions.
yes which was a mistake. I should have brushed up on NI. company is wack. I guess it's my PC. what do I need to improve memory or power wise to make it so I can have a shit load of vsts up and I won't have a buffer or..any problem for that matter?
Unfortunately there is really almost no fix for what you are wanting. Many VST's use alot of CPU causing your computer to overload. Different DAW's perform differently when this occurs. Ableton stats skipping trying to play, Logic just stops and gives an error message along with pro tools. You can cut down on some of this by bussing your effects. If your VST has multiple channels then you can use them instead of having the same VST open that many times.
@mikelsaint Go To Bit Where You Choose Channels then choose more scan for plugins :) there should be too ni massive and massive choose massive because ni massive doesnt work :) thats what happened with me anywayz :)
@mikelsaint your 1st mistake was using it on fruity loops FL is such a low budget program NI is more protools compatible well that atlease where i use it and it works perfectly your cutting ur possibility's by using FL is amateur sorry but it is use protools or Logic or ableton love or reason those are the best production base programs
I don't feel it's much of a mistake. more a preference really. $100 less than protools ya. But most the folks in music do run FL, even super producers such as yourself. I am amateur and positive massive is as well, thats exactly why I upgraded to nexus2 and omni, NI is a waist of money. thanks
@paralelSun it does probably have the best piano roll but most tracks i have heard have very poor sound quality , And im into trance so if it werent for the quality issue i would def own F.L. studio ! but im fucking LOVING LOGIC PRO 9 !!!!
@Flipjunkie1 Most FLStudio users probably don't take advantage of the program's output options. FLS can run & record/output hi-def 192/24 audio files just as clean as Logic or Cubase etc.
@paralelSun Naw; Logic Studio has the best piano roll. Don't get me wrong, the piano roll and ease of use are the things that keep me coming back to Fl Studio even after I realized it's just not as powerful as I'd like it to be. While I realize that each DAW is different, and has different strengths and weaknesses, this is how I see it currently: logic pro & Reason>Ableton>Fl Studio>Sony Acid Pro
i have to say that you can make good music with any DAW, depends on how you do it but i have to say, that some DAW some cheap with their bundle (free) vst/synths. Here is my rating
Cubase - good for recording and running vst
Reason - good for drums and baseline, good for building you own sound
Protools - works well with reason
Fl studio - easy to use but its basic software is horrible, need vst to not sound cheap
i ve used all these software, i am currently liking Reason + Cubase
@Insan3Lik3 Right on dude. FLStudio haters don't know what the fuck their talkin about. Those are the same jackasses that think "easy to learn" means shitty.
@chaote i agre with u fl is an ok program i sometimes rewire it but to produce overall inside it isnt good....if i use fl i usually export all tracks as wave and mix n master them in cubase
Is there a way to record live? For example to route massive's output into traktor's input to use the recorder box there? Someone please let me know as I'm not very experienced with this, thanks.
use cubase with reason 4 with midi sync and rewire. use the sequencer in cubase and get another display dedicated to reason. with the audio going into cubase through rewire. that would be a sick setup.
can u import some of the patches in reason?. or is it atleast compatible with reason?. seen lots of guys using it in fl studio. but no videos on guys using it in reason
Nope! It's still impossible to run VSTi synths in Reason. You can't even import audio files in their own tracks. What means: you have to use one of the included samplers for audio material.
In FL Studio you can use audio and VST instruments.
You CAN import pretty much any audio sample you want into reason. There just isn't any support for vst's, or the ability to record in from an external source.
But, bearing in mind pretty much any PC has the ability to record in your own sounds as long as u have a microphone. Then just save as an audio file and use it in Reason.
hey, i just got massive and i have no idea whether you can export your sounds into pro tools, cubase, logic pro or garangeband etc? is it possible? because i really wanna remix them and mp3 them
*sigh* buy your DAWs please.... cumon reaper and energyxt are dead cheap...
anyway yeah select an audio track, set input to Massive's output and hit record. Or there's the bounce-to-audio-track function, but that has different names depending on the DAW... Check the manual.

Get hardware! These are freaky cool and look flash but hardware synths will always soundbetter and be easier and more straight up expressive for what u really want than dragging a fukin mouse around a screen clicking one command at a time! U can Download it for free Too!!!!
But as said already: How much money you would have to spen to get Massive or a comparable thing like this as a hardware?
And, additionally to that, at the time bought the hardware resell price drops half. If you have that money, good. If not, stop talking :)
Its also possible to get a nice MIDI hardware to get control of all the parameters Massive offers. But even this would cost some hundrets or 1-2000 EUR, i guess because of its complexity.
@cromlek If you want massive to sound expressive just learn how to program and get KORE for nice knobby control. Hardware is bad value for money these days. Software is already better than most hardware and is just getting better every year.
@cromlek pathetic. they are way more expensive.and you are wrong if you know anything about this subject. why do that when you can use a midi device and sync this type of software to it so you would save money while using knobs and sliders. -_- ..... i use my 75 dollar midi controller with this.
do you have to have a midi keyboard controller(like an oxygen 8) with massive or can you use it without it? i just bought a good notebook configured for music and a presonus firebox soundcard, so funds are real low right now. so i'm wondering if i bought just the NI massive software could i begin using it without a keyboard controller for the time being. then in a month or two i'll pick up an oxygen 8.
i have just bought a 3.06 gb core 2 duo, 4gb of ram, 500 gb hard drive with graphics card being a g force 880 all built into an iMac... do you think that is sufficient if i get a sound card with it?
IMHO the Mac's internal soundchips are way better than the ones in PCs. So if you're working with software only, maybe you don't really need an external sound card.
I've got a MacBook Pro and an Acer laptop. The Acer's soundchip with its 5.1 sound option and all that stuff sounds terrible. On my Macs I've never used an external sound card.
im not biased. i have NI Komplete 5 and Spectrasonics Ominsphere and Trilogy and i must say, they both kick ass. honestly i find myself using NI products more :)
To everyone having problems with digital sound processing: don't even try any experiment if you have a 486. You MUST have at least a dual core cpu (wich can be insufficient in certain situations too) and obviously install ASIO drivers. Remember: those synths take everything to be done at CPU level, so you need a smart cpu in your box. A quad is higly recommended.
i am having the same problem with the clipping as well. the sounds sound great within massive, but once i start running them through ableton to record, things get choppy. luckily this only happens with the more complex sounds, the rest run fine. awesome synth!
what's your setup like? i have this and can't play a single note without having the cpu usage go way up and i get horrible pops and clips. ive set the latency all over the place and still nothing, i dont have the kore audio kontrol interface though
I've got a MacBook Pro (C2D, 2,16GHz) and I've got the same problem. Most of the factory presets aren't really playable (even in eco mode). So I'm programming my own presets.
It seems that it works way better, when you renounce some automatics, especially the (yellow) macros.
