I was 4 when this came out and haven't heard it until now. I'm really amazed by the world that this record creates, definitely a lot more "Punk" than half of what's out there today, I only knew this band cause of Mexican Radio, and I very mistakenly thought that they were some one hit 80s pop group, I'm going to listen to this fucking great song again right now!
I never tire of this song. .after almost 30 years since its release. It's a timeless song with impeccable lyrics, unmistakable licks from Marc Moreland's searing guitar. These guys could have had it all.
drum machine, shades of spaghetti western ,synthesizer driven, stan's wild west -style voice, new wave fusion----call of the west album is a brilliant classic + my fave
dont box me in is also brilliant-----dont rate what followed after tho
I was into these guys in 19 fucking 83!! so i claim the right to callmyself an EXPERT on Ridgeway et al . I happen to have as much as can be had without getting extremely lucky in your search. Please upload the song 'look at their way' if it is possible!! I must have listened to this album literally 5000 times in my life, perhaps even more. I would love to fucking teleport BACK to 1983 or '82 '81 and bust my way into band as their drummer!! I would have been able to do it I think.
This is one of my favorite all time albums. Just recently I introduced Wall of Voodoo to a group of young punk rockers. They have never heard of these guys and now they are all on a WOV band wagon, they even got all their girlfriends hooked. What an awesome album. Your a long way off from Yippy Yie Yay....
This whole album is just great. For those who don't know (I just found out myself) WOV's first album 'Dark Continent' just got re-released in a combo with the Call Of... album. I can only imagine what's on Dark! Hooray 2009!
OMG I was so lucky because I got to meet Stan Ridgeway one month ago! Yeah it was so crazy because I got to go backstage with my friend and we actually went in to the band's dressing room and we chatted with Stan right before he went on stage! HAHAHA what a legend and I got a picture of him between my friend and me..... He played this song that night and it was brilliant! What a very nice man!
@NotOrdinaryInGames - You have a chance to not only see Stan Ridgeway live but you can most likely meet him, too! He started his new tour about a month and a half ago and Dallas was his 2nd date (where I met him). If you go check and see what tour dates he's playing and when then you have a really good chance of getting to meet him like I did.(by the way, buy him a beer and he'll be more than greatful to you!)
What a great song,!!! and a great album too

Stan Ridgeway once described himself as a 'two bit poet'. Not bad at all for a two bit poet.

This was one of the best bands (beside the Muses and Pixies, of course) we got to hear here in Europe in the 80s ...

Stan Ridgway is an original, and I feel this album is an unknown classic. One of my faves. Always takes me to another place than the one I'm in.

See also Wall of Voodoo Blues
Wall of Voodoo shoulda been so much bigger, and gotten more of the recognition that Stan is belatedly getting now.
