i just checked on the crucial website for ram, as i have decided to run parallels, and they are selling 4gb chips for £37. i'm buying 2. CHECK IT OUT FELLOW IMACERS!!!
Make sure they are in the correct slot or is it 4 exactly same modules?
Cause if you want the affect of dual speed you must make sure the ones of the same brand are in their correct slots. On a pc motherboard the 4 slots are usually colored differently to make sure its easier to get the ram stick in correct module slots (like 2 slots are blue and 2 yellow or similar). So i suggest you make sure they are in the correct slots.
i hope you were grounded. because laying your imac on a soft surface is good, but in a way that is also bad. the imac has static and wont discharge on soft cloth. instead, you'll generate static. and if you discharge your static buildup into a piece of hardware, chances are, you have fused it and it won't work. (that one piece or maybe even the whole machine) so i would suggest getting an anti-static wrist strap so you don't screw your nice imac over!!!
@gumberly for that all you have to do is pull out the power and press and hold the power button for more than 10 secs... well thats what the apple care ppl said. it gets the static out of the ram.
For the record, the 21.5" iMac also supports 16GB memory (4 x 4GB DIMMS). Apple would just rather you bought the 27" iMac if you're a user who needs this much RAM.
Also, the memory rarely 'clicks' when you install it.
Hey, Michael great video and I'm sure your machine is way faster now. I tried to find out the name of the song at the end of your video with Shazam and it didn't recognize it. What's the name of it?
RAM doesn't make a computer faster overall. Only when the applications being used are reaching out for more memory does the extra become beneficial. Too many people think that a computer with 8GB memory is going to tear strips off an identical computer with 4GB memory for routine tasks, and this is simply not the case. Anything over 4GB will only be made useful by gamers, pro photographers, pro audio/video editors, 3D designers and people like that...
Does it matter what company it is?
Is this ok: Corsair CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 XMS3 Desktop Memory 4GB

You have to make sure you grounded yourself. You can mess up your computer's mother board by not grounding yourself.

So what did it do to the performance? Was it worth upgrading your machine?
