I've watched very many of these shows now (thank you crepehanger47!) and I've come up with a list of my favourite women. Those who not only looked good but were charming, intelligent and funny too. Anyone like to share their own list?
1. Hedy Lamaar
2. Ava Gardner
3. Debbie Reynolds
4. Jeanne Crane (although I don't share her political outlook)
5. Eva Marie Saint
6. Lee Remick
7. Gene Tierney
I can think of far fewer of today's stars about whom I feel the same way. Grumpy old man??
@ComposerInUK The list continues to grow... Claudia Cardinale, Pier Angeli and. of course, how could I forget her, Arlene Francis! Have I missed anyone...?
I love Miss Reynolds. A friend of mine had the pleasure of meeting her when Miss Reynolds came to see the show she was in and said she was delightful to the whole cast. A true star.
I think it's cute that Eddie says let's go Mary Frances, Debbie's real name, at the end but that's about the only cute thing about Eddie. Debbie is amazing and he did not deserve her
I always saw her in later years. I only recently discovered what a sweetheart she was, and so thin in a time when the biggest stars were a little more full-figured.
And I've heard her to many great voices in interviews. What a talent. What a babe.
@Ranjeeb Still is Ranjeeb. She's still performing at the age of 79. She looks and acts so young. So much talent in such a petite body. I just love her and she is so pretty in this WML video.
Debbie said that Eddie Fisher was the love of her life. Eddie said that Elizabeth Taylor was the love of his life. Elizabeth said the Richard Burton was the love of her life.
think of no coincidence that the presence of Mr. Fisher in the program ( I mean in front of the TV camera) was due to the constant approach that Debbie had with Mr. Daly? because if we see Mr. Fisher is in a defiant pose. In fact I say that also because of Debbie´s phrase "I like those conferences".
PS I admire this program and the stars that they had, It´s just a simple doubt.
Loved her in "Singin' In The Rain" and as "Tammy", but I felt she REALLY showcased her talents in "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". She sang, she danced, she was so very funny and also very dramatic!! A REAL star!! Been loving her for over 50 years and will always be a faithful fan!!
Debbie Reynolds, aka Mary Frances Reynolds, is the best. She doesn't get a lot of credit for being beautiful like other actresses or the sexuality, like Liz or Ava, adorable and cute, yes. But she is gorgeous. So talented too. She can sing and dance, do comedy and drama, impersonations and at 79, still going strong. She was 19 when she did Singin' in the Rain, and learned to dance and sing her part, and she was amazing. I get a little miffed when I hear that Liz was the last living ...
...iconic movie star. There are still quite a few left and Debbie Reynolds is one of them. They were friends, yes, but very different talents and very different beauties. And in my humble opinion, when people are as multi-talented like Miss Reynolds is, a much better talent. She's had a great career. How could he leave Debbie for Liz is right. She has a wonderful personality and I bet the room lights up when she enters. This What's My Line is great. One of the best.
That woman had (or has I should say) all the qualities you look for in someone. Charm, warmth, sense of humor and intelligence. And I'm leaving out a lot more!
She is shockingly great in this clip! I had to behold this to believe it. And so smashingly beautiful. Fisher was really set up for catching it from all quarters when he left her for Elizabeth Taylor then was humiliated when Taylor dumped him for Burton. You can see the beginnings of all this with such an open approach to his romance with Reynolds on this show.
She was the cutest thing, and so talented. But she's had a tough life, she couldn't stop Eddie from leaving her but she never should have married Harry Karl--he gambled away all her millions. Debbie's autobiography is very interesting reading, she was in love with Robert Wagner in the early 1950s & I think remained in love with him even though they both married someone else. Debbie is one of the few remaining survivors of Old Hollywood.
Can you get some intelligent, eloquent and well spoken people with personalities and class to act as judges? Please bring back WHAT'S MY LINE for the 3rd and 4th generation fans. Hollywood is missing out on a hit show. Thank you very much.
I am well aware that she's a huuge star and has done so many amazing, influential, culture-defining works but all I can think of is..."My Goodness. Bobbi Adler". She's an absolute darling then and now.
I can handle the sponsor logo being in the set since that meant less minutes of actual commercials, but that GSN logo is big and annoying. I hope they put this on DVD already with remastered sound and video.

Mr. Daly is very kind. He even laughs when it's not funny. Thanks to him Miss Reynolds seems to have good humor. But she IS a beauty. That covers it up, too.
Debbie Reynolds is great, but she had bad taste in men, maybe due to a dad who did not show much affection...i mean she married some rich jewish shoe chain store owner who bout bankrupt her and his fortune away with a gambling addiction. He also was ugly and unfaithful. Alot of pretty talented women in Hollywood were taken for suckers. Can't see what she saw in Eddie Fischer, man some women!
How happy her and Eddie seemed at the time. How could she of guessed he'd stab her in the back and humiliate her just 10 years later. Never understood what either of the women saw in him?? Perhaps he looked better off screen??
@luvbearbut I believe Taylor was quite vulnerable and sought comfort in his arms after the death of her husband (the men were best friends). Anyway, she later came to her senses. Maybe Reynolds was just young and foolish - who knows?
Black and white TV glow breaks my heart tears my soul. Time it gives destroys and taunts. Debbie's smile my life it taunts. Sleep it brings a bridge a boat on which my lust...
Won the 1948 Miss Burbank contest and was offered a screen test by Warner Bros. the day after her win. She initially entered the contest because everyone who entered received a silk scarf, blouse and free lunch
Here at age 23 - her longevity in the Industry is legendary - now days she even stays busy doing cartoon voice-overs- Family Guy & Rug-Rats- very classy
its ok. its funny because he was hitting on her and being sort of over the top with it. so he was excited to bee able to get so close up to her face amd whisper to her
