Not trying to be rude, or mean, but I'm just not liking the tune and vocals. Love it for the passion and soul of the song, though. A masterpiece. I want a dubstep version. Lawl.
Thanks Mary for this wonderful song that many of us Vietnam vets adopted as their signature song of the Vietnam experience. It still bring an emotional lift to me each time I hear it and time and I seem to be transported back in time to this terrible episode in my life. RIP Mary.
When I was a child, my dad had to travel a lot since he's in the Army, so I often thought of this song when he had to leave.
Now I'm grown and enduring the bittersweetness of having a fiance living several states away, and this song's meaning has changed for me. :) It's truly timeless. RIP Mary.
@atfatw Mary was a fantastic and talented singer, her weight had no bearing on her singing. You never know the reason for people's weight gain. Stevie Nicks gained a lot of weight after doctors kept putting her on all these horrible medications. When she finally got off of them, she lost weight. Women are often given steroids and other drugs to battle certain illnesses and it causes weight gain.
@mydogblue1 i am sorry, but God does not exist. Christianity is ridiculous, why strive to make it to heaven in an afterlife that we do not know exists? We should strive to make our lives on earth, which we are currently living, as heavenly as possible. That being said, engage in as much sexual behavior and drug use as you possibly can, and you shall achieve heaven right now. Take more drugs, and have more sex in order to prolong your heavenly existence. The present is a gift! Don't waste it
@Unemployedbillionair I hope this sparks one of youtubes infamous comment battles. While that is taking place, I shall be living my life to the fullest, enjoying the now. Join me my brothers and sisters, this is not a cult! It is life!
@Unemployedbillionair I'll pray for you my friend. And your so wrong God is all around you. I hope that one day you will be blessed to have a personnel relationship with him, and you won't have to fill that empty void with sex and drugs. Peace be with you.
@mydogblue1 Thank you my brother. I was making a joke about the drugs and sex, but I am completely serious about making our current lives as enjoyable as possible, and constantly striving to improve them, rather than doing things that will land us in heaven. How can you say that God is all around you, me, or anyone for that matter? Are you a prophet of his?
On another note, I want to thank you for being the first to respond to my post, I am anxiously awaiting more responses.
@mydogblue1 Oh, and please do not pray for me, it would not be a wise way to use your time. Perhaps focus on telling someone that you are close to what they mean to you, or consider meditating.

soo good you want to share your deepest intime moments with us. This song, Peter, Paul and Mary en John Denver were AND are beautiful moments of our life and of this planet!!!!!!!!!
This was the first song I ever sang in public at a coffee house and because i did... my best friend took me to see them in concert. I'm SO happy I got to see them in person. It was spiritual... EVERY person in that audience sang...off key...on key... didn't matter...it was magical.
My God that lady could belt it out, a classic folk icon, I hear her influnce with many of the modern folk as well as some alternative lady singers, sheryl crow comes to mind, but there will never be another mary, rest in peace pretty lady, my wife always melts when I sing this song to her...keep on....justasinger54
awesome... totally, totally awesome. think she was singing that to each and every one of us, individually. touching and very, very moving... thank you mary... you'll live on and on and touch countless others who are still to discover you.
I agree. I was stationed on Guam in 1973 and we didn't have much TV or radio but I had a small cassette tape player. I had a John Denver tape and a Peter Paul and Mary tape. I played them both so much, I think that I wore them out. Thanks Mary.
When I was drafted during the VietNam war, this song was a virtual theme song, it was sung countless times by g.i's before being shipped out. It brings back so many memories and is truly part of the sound track of my life. Mary - we will miss you so.
@2274Bob The song sure brings back memories. I left on a jet plane and it landed in Danang in January 69. I'm sure that everyone on that TWA charter had this song going through their heads as we landed--- and it sunk in that we were actually in Vietnam.
@2274Bob Beautiful epitaph brother.....Thanks for what you did. I'm a veteran myself. I never served in combat..but I did my bit in the cold war era....appreciate ya bubba!
I know how u feel. For me, it's the combination of the lyrics and the singers' interpretation of them...it's as if they've lived the song. Perfect combination of performers and song..
well, you made it back obviously. you can always have those memories ... the dead can't. good for you. it's funny how many emotions a song can bring out.
Mary, you live in our hearts. Your voice is home. Our lives have been lived through your music and our gratitude is endless. How we miss you already. See you in Paradise!
i'll be 54 in nov and grew up with an old guitar playing songs of pp&mary and what an impression she made on the life of a small town kid in the 60-70s. i will miss her strong voice for freedom, equality, justice and peace.
Y'all damn right. I have been fascinated by this song since the early 70ies - overhere in Germany every f****** paper writes about jackson every day and NOT ONE WORD about Mary's death. This clip from 1990 shows, that she still had an awesome great voice!
Peter, Paul & Mary's music is more than just entertainment: It represents the dissesiong that hought to exist in a democracy: The voice of sanity which apparently is gone or is being kept quiet...Jackson's music was good but is not good food for thought...I wonder if P;P& Marys music is being ignored in purpose so nobody remembers their movement against Vietnam (Iraq)
If the news had played this cut as they spoke of her death today it would have made me cry. It's a crisp clear video, her facial expressions easely shows her talent and her heart and soul in her music. o'l Mary, so long honey. this song was the only one by her that i liked, but that's okay, she had something for everybody. I was sad to get the news. good bye suger.
Thank you Mary for giving us such great music. I remember hearing my mother sing this song in the kitchen as she cooked dinner. I was about four when this song was a hit on the radio. You will be missed and there will never be another one like you.
This was the first song I learned on guitar. My guitar teacher Dave started teaching me this song. He and his brother left for Viet Nam. The next week his younger brother of 4 started teaching me the rest of the song. His mother bursted into the room crying and told us never to play the song again. Dave never came back. She gave me his burial flag to cover my amps.
Mary was part of my youth, listening to her music and going to protest ralleys with my mom and dad. Now she has left on the Jet Plane to a better place where my Mod and Dad will listen to her sing for eternity. When my time comes I want a good seat on that same airlines!
DAM THIS BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES...THANK YOU
