@B24zootsnoot What do you mean "never to win a Cup"? He played terrific in defeating Colorado in Games 5, 6, & 7 of this 1998 opening round series & was a huge part of winning the Cup that year... for Detroit. If Edmonton had not won this series then Wings would have faced very difficult task of having to defeat both Avs & Stars on the road in order to get to Cup Final. Joseph & Oilers did Detroit the same favor previous year by upsetting Stars in opening round, so they helped Wings win 2 Cups.
I remember watching this game live in the playoffs in '98. At the time this was the most amazing save I have ever seen, and I don't think that I have seen any better since. Of course this is as equally large a huge choke on the part of the colorado player with an empty net, but unbelievable nonetheless.
I like Cujo, and I think he was an excellent goalie. This save, though, is one he had to make because he was A) out of position, B) way overslid the mark getting back into position. So while on the one hand it's pretty amazing, it's a portrait of him being amazing in spite of himself. I wouldn't call it his best save for that reason.
Most spectacular goalie I've ever seen. Doesn't get the credit he deserves. Cujo, Mogilny, Berezin, Domi, Thomas. Ahhhh good times, when we at least had players with character, instead of fucking Rikard Wallin. Hopefully Phaneuf changes things.
I can't stand it when people say that CuJo sucks. I mean, if I were to name the top 8 goalies from 94-04, CuJo is definitely on my list. Here goes (not in order):
@Brownsc3 Your goalie list is pretty solid but Dafoe seems to stick out a bit. He had a pretty sick 98-99 season, but other than that he was just a good starter. I hate to say it, but I think I would put Osgood on that list for when he played with Detroit in the 90's. He had 5 out of 7 30+ win seasons, and one with only 6 losses.
@Brownsc3 The list you have provided the goalies together played more than 100 seasons. At least 91 times these goalies didn't win the Cup. Imagine if they played on great teams!
indeed. ice hockey has the same idea as soccer, put a target object into a net, but hockey combines the athleticism and endurance of soccer with the hand-eye coordination of baseball. plus, you're on skates. and you're vulnerable to a bodycheck every time you have the puck!
Cujo was amazing until he left toronto. Since then he kinda fell off the map. Needs to get back into his groove hopefully by next season so the leafs can actually get in the playoffs
I watched Curtis Joseph for a long time while he was in St Louis. He was great. In 1993 he shut down the Blackhawks in a year when the Blues made the playoffs in the last game of the year.
I'm going to respect your opinion WWE, but I will say that DiPietro is nowhere near as consistent as CuJo is.
DiPietro hasn't played for the longlest time, as he's been out with god knows what, but what I'm getting at is, DiPietro isn't as consistent as Curtis.
CUJO is not the best. Not top 10, not top 20, 30 maybe, 50, i think so. HASEK is the best. Brouder is not as good considering he has less then the average shots per game. Roy was great. but his bad era gave him a bad face. Still a great goalie.
We're talking about the guy who has the most saves in history, while playing 70 games less than Roy, who's in 2nd place in saves? The guy who's fourth in wins?
Dipietro is better than Joseph, currently at least. But no doubt that Joseph is the overall better goalie in his career, one day, maybe one day DiPietro can surpass him.
But in history, DiPietro doesn't stand a chance compared to Joseph in his prime.
That save right there shown how dominant he was and is! It was the last time him and Roy played against each other in the playoffs and what a battle it was with Cujo comming out on top! Welcome back to Toronto!
I like to feel sexy....knowing someone is watching me ..wanting me...turns me on!BADLY! I think Hasek, Roy then Brouder, CUJO sucks, he's too frigen old. Hasek beet Roy in GAA and Save percentage even with having a greater shots per game.
You can't judge goalies just on wins. Roy always played behind amazing lineups, guys like Sakic, Forsberg, Kamensky, Deadmarsh, Blake, Ozolinsh and Foote come to mind. Hasek played for some terrible Sabres teams, and still managed to win the Vezina 6 times in 8 years. Roy won it 3 times his whole career.
Oilers vs. Stars 1998 cujo sprawls cross the goaline and just gets the puck to keep the oilers in the playoffs on the faceoff weight feeds buckberger they go down and force a game 6. then go on to win the series.
what the hell man?! did u see him in Game 3 when Kipper got pulled? i guess not.. by the way, he has the best saves against average percentage in the playoffs right now, 100%....

Seriously? Greatest save? First off, it looks like the puck was gonna miss the net anyway. And he is lucky that the shooter shot the puck directly at Cujo insteed of for the open part of the net
Cujo will be back in the NHL this second half....he just proved he can still get it done by winning the spengler cup with Canada in switzerland and the player of the tournament!!........Go CUJO!!!!
