The subject is very violent and too recent. It's not historic enough yet. Theaters want asses in the buckets and this movie will not have wide spread appeal. In large part this subject is not entertainment for war weary Americans. It's real and can be seen on news channels. Graphic war pictures don't work that well with the war still on going and Americans still dying. Liberals don't have any say so over the movies that are shown in theaters. Dollars determine that.

You're pretty much describing the film there - it's an astonishing journey of a man unable to adjust to civilian life, pushing himself and the safety of his fellow soldiers to the edge in order to try and find some meaning in what war has made him.

It doesn't glorify war at all, but spends it's time in the mind of a man emotionally destroyed by his experiences. I really think you'd find a lot to admire in the film.
