I'l like to disagree that her race is irrelevant. She is writing this from many perspectives, one of which is her race, which is in many geographic places, as well as global ideology, oppressed. To me, her criticism of racism (sexism, and the institutionalization of both in the prison-industrial system) as being oppressive both to the oppressed and the oppressor is what makes this so beautiful to me.
