Parabellum (Para Bellum) doesn't mean "for war" but "Prepare for war". It comes from Vegetius' Epitoma Rei Militaris, the complete motto is "si vis pacem, para bellum" (if you want peace, prepare for war). It's called so because DWM, its 1st producer, had that motto stamped on their boxes of ammo. Just for personal culture:):)
hey guys i like all your videos but i would like to see one on fanning a single action revolver, which revolvers are safe to fan and which are not, like the ruger blackhawk, new model blackhawk, colt and so on,and also i have seen some really dumb people try too fan a double action revolver, i told them they where lucky the gun didnt blow up in their hand, thanks for reading
@bud1014 It depends on if the firearm can handle the extra pressure caused by the 5.56 over the .223. Consult the owners manual. If you don't have a manual for a specific gun, go to the manufacturer's website or get their 800 number and request one. By law they will give you a manual for free. If you have a custom AR build, ask the guys who built it or get the barrel/upper manufacturer and ask them.
7.62x39 and 7.62x54r are not really what we call .30 cal in the west. They're .310" or .311". 30-30 (7.62x51R) .308 (7.62x51) and .30-06 (7.62x63) are all .308" diam to our western standards.
I find it very funny that I will most likely never be able to use any firearms apart from possibly in the army and yet I seem to know more about them than some of the people that come into your shop...

@eep80674 Not exactly. The 9mm para is a military round. It will run in most(not all) 9x19 handguns. Modern handguns designed for +P or +P+ can handle the 9mm para. Also, the 9mm para will not be anything but FMJ or else it's not 9mm para, it's 9mm luger or 9x19.
@quietstorm1383 If the pistol is rated for +P or +P+ then you should be able to shoot 9mm Para from it. The easiest way to find out is to call up Springfield arms and ask. Tell them the make and model. This information is also in your owner's manual.
Most of the 9mm ammo you will run into will be 9mm Luger or +P. Since it's a new gun, I'd stick with 9mm Luger FMJ until you're comfortable with handling and recoil(200-300 rounds if this is your first pistol) then try other rounds.
Another one to beware of is mixing .303 Savage with .303 British, mainly because some morons make the assumption that because they are both .303, they can fire them in a .303 British chamber. This has most commonly been seen with the Lee-Enfields in Canada.
i was a witness of my brother in law mixing his 308 with 270 winchester, and he was not much of a riffle guy to begin with, the 308 round fit in the 270 and the gun blew up, he got lucky and tiny red spots on his forehead missing his eye, spring looked like it almost wanted to stick in the wood table he shot on, along with other tiny parts, and the gun butt broke off. him and friend unlike us were smoking a joint before this accident happened, dont shoot with drunk or high people.
Not on this topic but related... I'm a .308win fan. I went to pick up some factory ammo in 168gr. This weight is a little more "boutique" than 150 or 180 and the price reflects it. I went to spot-check my boxes and recognized the bullets as core-loct -- not the polymer-tipped as expected. Even the head stamp wouldn't have confessed that some unscrupulous shooter had likely swapped out the contents of the box for a more affordable round. They wouldn't have hurt me or my rifles but still...
@punktrip6 anything that was a south paw bolt. the m1 garand will throw hot brass in your face, so will many other semi autos. i think tehy make teh ruger m77 mark 2 in south paw. great gun.
I bought a box of Remington UMC on sale and, out of the 250 rounds, 3 of them were missing half the primer almost like he showed in the video, very unimpressive if you ask me. Half the primer was there, like a machine cut it in half.
Nice video. Education is the key to gun safety. If someone knows better and still does something stupid then they deserve what happens. Please continue educating
When you first walked into the shot I thought you didn't have anything on under your jacket and your belly was hanging out. haha
On a serious note, seeing that casing without a flash hole is scary. I've never thought of that happening and I don't want to imagine what could happen if one of my .38 or .357 rounds was like that.
From now on I'm going to check to make sure every primer is seated correctly and when I get into reloading I'll check every case before I load it for the first time!
even if that .410 does live, i doubt well ever see one of you shoulder it and fire either the 444 or 454 out of it XD its a shame, its almost such a versitile little gune. one of my "dream guns" is a revolving carbine, built well, with 2 quick interchange barrels and 4 cylindars, a 45 caliber barrel with a 410/45colt cylinder and a 45-70 cylinder, and a 30 caliber barrel with a 7.62x54R cylinder and a 7.62x39 w/moon clips cylinder. might kick hard on those bigger rounds but would be cool.
I have been shooting/reloading for 20+ years. I like the video- there is a lot of information there about different calibers. Gun safety is extremely important. This is a often overlooked subject. One reason I do not have but a few calibers, one of the few reasons I have not purchased a .380--all my glocks are 9mm. who knows, someone might accidently put wrong cartridge in mag (even me if was emergency or stress situation they are very close).
I've seen professionally made videos that were not as well made as this. This was informative, very well done, and included a lot of anecdotal stuff that was really interesting.
What is the flash hole? Is it for the primer to lit the powder? Why is it dangerous, is there that much energy in the primer? And how did you find a round with no flash hole? Wouldn't a primer have been inserted into the cavity? Thanks.
If someone had a p.o.s. handgun they'd like to destroy, I'd love to see what a .444 marlin could do to the chamber / barrel after being shot. And of course the hand if being held at the time. Don't do that part.
This dude came to a video of mine and started telling me that "202's" were used in WW2. He meant .22 and the SIG 202 rifle. He had no clue what he was talking about. He kept on saying that his grandfather was in WW2 and used a 202. This guy was as dumb as a rock. I felt how angry gun shop employees get when people are ignorant to the 11th power.
what whit the 30-06 or 7.62x63? a 7.62x51(.308) will fire just fine in that kind of guns whit no problem, exsept for getting the shell out as it fireforms to the chamber fairly mutch. would love to see you test this aswell
@Iraqveteran8888 I'm with you Eric. Being witness to ammo mix ups in a near fatal accident will open the eyes of the ignorant in a real big hurry. Mr. MegaGustafo sounds like a victim of his own ignorance and poor choice of where he chooses to do business. I'm in sales (not firearms) and I get the occasional know-it-all who usually go their own way, only to return with a disaster and begging for my help to fix their mistakes. Surely you guys don't reattach missing fingers?
5.56 is unsafe to shoot in a firearm chambered for 223 remington. 5.56 fired in a 223 remington chambered firearm develops pressures close to 78000 psi, and the saami spec for 223 remington is only 55,000 psi. saami warns against doing it as it is unsafe.
7.5x54 MAS, 7.5x55 Swiss and 7.62x51 NATO are quite similar in size too right and trying to fire the last out of a rifle chambered for the first two would be a pretty bad idea?
Not so much an ammo mix up, but we used to have 7.62x39 FMJ, Tracers and sometimes AP occasionally pop up in factory boxes of that wooden practice ammunition and guys wouldn't notice until they were topping off magazines or some such...putting live ammo through a blank firing adapter, not a very good idea either I heard.
@SadoYeti Actually, they are not that close. The head dimensions on the 7.5 french and swiss are closer to .284 WIN, which will not chamber in a .308 rifle. They are larger in dimension than a .308. Now, I haven't tried or anything, but a .308 might drop in a MAS36 or a K31.
This video goes back to a saying i heard from a guy at the range.. There are NO such thing as an accident.. ONLY human negliance. I find it amazing that someone can mistakenly put a different round in thier gun.. the barrel has the chambering stamped on it.
If the shotgun chambered for 410 can fire 3 factory .454 rounds just letting it live would be the "gentlemanly thing to do." Ha ha ha ha. That is why I love this channel!
I have a factory Remmington .40 S&W that came with the bullet backwards right out of the box. I have it on my desk as a reminder not get too lazy. Even factory ammo can be totally unsafe. A novice would have been a total jerk to try to shoot it, but some jerks just might try. A .40 seated backwards, I have no clue what would happen, but at those pressures, it could get nasty verry fast. Remmington UMC .40 S&W, backwards and it still shipped.
While "parabellum" is literally translated as "for war," it is a shortening of the phrase "SI VIS PACIS PARA BELLUM" or "If you want peace, prepare for war." My Latin is REALLY rusty so the spelling might not be spot on, but the phrase is correct.
I went out & bought a Brazilian ERA break open 12 gauge sawed off for $60 after that 410 episode. Actually lookin to use Canterberry's guys inserts in it, hoping they do a rifled Casull insert. Those will probably be tough way over spec, because they have to be so thick for 12s.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but you maybe should have mentioned to be careful not to mix 20 gauge in with your 12's. Say you’re out hunting with your double barrel if you got a 20 mixed into your ammo bag you could easily drop it in and when it doesn’t go bang you open the gun and think oh I must not have loaded that and drop a 12 in right behind it. That’s just another example of a bad day.
Can you guys give us more reasons why we shouldn't buy gun show reloads? Or make a video on that.... I had no idea that was a bad thing!!!! I'd like to know more about that and why... Well hope you can respond.
@crazypyro171 There is nothing that you can do with .300 Blackout that a good handloader can't do with any cartridge he wants. The .300 Blackout is just one of those things that appeals to the masses that don't roll their own. Marks my words, the cartridge will be completely obsolete in 15 years or less. Just like .45 GAP....Nobody uses that worthless caliber but it's all marketing hoopla.
It may be a dead round, but I've got loads of brass and can keep it fed.
It's one of the best shooting glocks I've fired. The gap only makes sense for exactly what it was designed for, would like to see it stay alive, but oh well.
Agree on all counts with the 300 blackout. The 5.56 does next to anything you'd ever want to do, and if you need more power, there's the well established 6.8spc.
@jwg101x Google SAAMI pressures for 5.56 vs .223 and you'll find tons of info on the subject. 5.56 fired in a .223 chamber generates up to 73,000 psi of pressure vs about 50,000 for .223, so every time you shoot 5.56 in a .223, you're shooting a proof load.
Backing up your "if you don't know who loaded it, don't shoot it": last time out loaded up a magazine of some old hand-loads Dad had left over. They were probably nearly as old as I am and he didn't load them. I got three rounds down range and the brass from #3 jammed up my Sig and it was done shooting for the day. Luckily that's all it did and a brass rod and hammer un-jammed it, but it could have been real ugly.
You have to really like these guys with all their work and info that they put into their videos to educate folks like me that think we know a lot about firearms and after watching one of their videos say"well I will be darned,I didn't know that." Keep up the goof work Erik and Barry!!
I shoot IPSC Fridays at my local range, and every now and then i hear the pop of a 9mm that someone loaded in their .40 S&W magazine because they reload cant keep their ammo organized
@tleflore87 If the shotgun is in good shape and designed to be fired with modern ammo, you can fire any shell shorter than it's chamber. It might not function reliably in a repeater, but you can fire it. Some automatics need gas settings adjusted when you're going from a 3 1/2" to a 2-3/4". Some pumps can handle the 1.5" Aguila minishells with no problems, others jam.
7.62 is tricky business. Even 30-06 is 7.62x63 if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, some of the mistakes these junior-tool-time 'gunny-wannabes' make leave me wanting to projectile vomit.
I took the Soviet Republik of Commiefornia 'handgun certification' and almost fucking died of laughter at some of these questions. Things like: "A magazine is a component of a A.) Single action Revolver. B.) Double Action Revolver. C.) Semi-Auto Pistol. D.) Machete.
@CaliforniaCarpenter7 we have someting very similar in rhode island for a "blue card" test before you can buy a handgun, one of the questions was like If you want to check if a weapon is loaded do you a) point the barrel at your friend and pull the trigger b) point it at your eye and pul the trigger c) point it at a house and pull the trigger d) physically and visually inspect the chamber
In the .38's, you forgot .38 super aswell.

If someone had a p.o.s. handgun they'd like to destroy, I'd love to see what a .444 marlin could do to the chamber / barrel after being shot. And of course the hand if being held at the time. Don't do that part.
mattrsauve101 1 month ago

I liked this video. Please keep this series going.
What a SAD commentary on gun owners as a group. I guess it's FAR TOO MUCH TO ASK that someone actually READ WHAT'S STAMPED ON THE GUN!
I would suggest a video on "the perfect customer", but then that would not be a "Gun Gripe".
sinner175 1 month ago
you forgot 38 colt or long colt as some refer to it.
MrSanteeclaus 1 month ago
i imagine these are the most common mixups:
5.56 in a 223
9mm in a .40s&w
44mag in a 45colt
ms3bani 1 month ago
@ms3bani you know that 5,56 =.2224 so that if you don't use steel core ammo the bullit will for smoodly in the barel?
faenihaelvete 1 month ago
@faenihaelvete
5.56 is unsafe to shoot in a firearm chambered for 223 remington. 5.56 fired in a 223 remington chambered firearm develops pressures close to 78000 psi, and the saami spec for 223 remington is only 55,000 psi. saami warns against doing it as it is unsafe.
ms3bani 1 month ago
7.5x54 MAS, 7.5x55 Swiss and 7.62x51 NATO are quite similar in size too right and trying to fire the last out of a rifle chambered for the first two would be a pretty bad idea?
Not so much an ammo mix up, but we used to have 7.62x39 FMJ, Tracers and sometimes AP occasionally pop up in factory boxes of that wooden practice ammunition and guys wouldn't notice until they were topping off magazines or some such...putting live ammo through a blank firing adapter, not a very good idea either I heard.
SadoYeti 1 month ago
@SadoYeti Actually, they are not that close. The head dimensions on the 7.5 french and swiss are closer to .284 WIN, which will not chamber in a .308 rifle. They are larger in dimension than a .308. Now, I haven't tried or anything, but a .308 might drop in a MAS36 or a K31.

This video goes back to a saying i heard from a guy at the range.. There are NO such thing as an accident.. ONLY human negliance. I find it amazing that someone can mistakenly put a different round in thier gun.. the barrel has the chambering stamped on it.
80TheMadLord08 1 month ago

Remmington UMC .40 S&W, backwards and it still shipped.
harpoclarx 1 month ago
Verry interesting stuff!. Can you tell me are there any .410 shotguns that will fire a .45 Colt other than the pistols out from Taurus and S&W?

You forgot the 7.62x35, which is the 300 blackout. One of the most useful rounds in my opinion. Another great video by the way.
crazypyro171 1 month ago
@crazypyro171 There is nothing that you can do with .300 Blackout that a good handloader can't do with any cartridge he wants. The .300 Blackout is just one of those things that appeals to the masses that don't roll their own. Marks my words, the cartridge will be completely obsolete in 15 years or less. Just like .45 GAP....Nobody uses that worthless caliber but it's all marketing hoopla.
Iraqveteran8888 1 month ago 7
@Iraqveteran8888 Damn right.

@Iraqveteran8888
I like 45gap, but only because of the glock 37.
It may be a dead round, but I've got loads of brass and can keep it fed.
It's one of the best shooting glocks I've fired. The gap only makes sense for exactly what it was designed for, would like to see it stay alive, but oh well.
Agree on all counts with the 300 blackout. The 5.56 does next to anything you'd ever want to do, and if you need more power, there's the well established 6.8spc.

i'd like to see your take on 5.56 nato in .223 chambers, in both bolt actions, and semi autos.
jwg101x 1 month ago

What about shot shells. Can you use 2 1/2" shells in a shotgun chambered for 3" shells?
tleflore87 1 month ago
@tleflore87 most of the time you can but sometimes certain automatics wont let you.
sgtsnipe99 1 month ago in playlist More videos from Iraqveteran8888

And to think people FAIL these, hahaha Good vid!
