I wish they could release Matthew's earlier episodes from the mid 1970's on DVD but The master tapes were probably destroyed in a fire in the ITV vaults back in '92.

I think it's terrible that the rest of the family seem to frown upon Matthew's angle on the Sooty Show. They should be proud! I grew up with his show and loved it. I understand what Matthew means about not letting his father work with Sooty again - he had to work hard to become the face of the Sooty Show. It was nothing against Harry, just time to move on, that's all.

Richard has brought Sooty from a company that didn't do anything with him for over five years. Matthew approves of Richard and Sooty relaunch in 2009 will be fanastic for the new generation of Sooty fans. If you are a true fan you will love Sooty whoever the right hand man is. Matthew was great but give Richard, who cares about Sooty, a chance.

Would those people call Matthew that word you mention? Matthew is happy retired and hosted the regional ITV show Locks & Quays (first five episodes on my channel) too.

Richard owns Sooty like Matthew and Harry before him, bought with his own money and Will be brought back next year without Justin Lee Collins help.

well Matthew doesn't need to be reunited with Sooty, being told by Richard himself he is in regular contact with Sooty and is free to share ideas with the relaunch (next years Sooty in Space tour show is based on his hosted show). Plus "All New Sooty" is just the working title for the new tv show. Richard has been the Sooty's right hand man for over 10 years now (Remember he joined in the last Sooty & Co series) and the new fans will love Richard and The New Sooty Show, whatever old fans think.

Its Just Not The Same Without Matthew. Maybe I'll Grow To Like Richard (Doubt It ) But I Stopped Watchin Sooty Cos I Was About Maybe 5/6 And Was Soo Distraught That Matthew Wasnt Presenting Anymore That I Boycotted The On Tv And Continued To Watch Sooty With Harry (My Dad Taped Them) And Matthew So I Just Rejected Richard. In A Way It's Really Sad That Matthew Couldnt Keep It In The Family Due To His Kids Not Wanting To Take Part In The Show :( (N)

@HayleyyBbzXx Hayley, its 2011, so im glad that sooty is on the TV atleast for the kids these days.

However, Matthew is a legend. Dont care if hes retired. The way he wrote The Sooty Show and Sooty & Co was perfect. My grandma grew up with Harry Corbett, and she still thinks Matthew did just a good job.....Justin Lee Collins would do a great show, bringing back Matthew, Brenda Longman and all the producers, even Richard could have an interview.

I think Matthew brought Sooty up to date with a different angle on it. I am 20, so I watched when Matthew was doing it, Sooty still being the focus, but I think Harry would be so proud of his son, and it must have been lovely for it to have been a family business.

I also understand why Matthew wanted to make the show his own, and I know if I was handed a job in the performance industry, such as acting, I would want so hard for people to recognise me in my own right.

We got into Sooty during Matthews management. It was surrealistic- Sooty never spoke; Sweep was optimistic and Soo behaved like and spoke like June Whitfield. After a rotten day in the office it got us out of commuting hell. But what happened to Scampi?

I don't blame Matthew for wanting the show to himself. If they had shared the show between them then it would have still been Harry's show and it could have caused confusion as Matthew said. Harry was fortunate enough to get his son to take over considering he didn't want to do it to begin with and you can't have it all! Matthew deserved the right to be able to call the show his own.

Nonsense - if they both shared Sooty, no-one would have gone to see Matthew.

In another of these videos it explains that Matthew had to pay a huge amount to buy Sooty from his father... even though he never wanted to present Sooty!!

i cant agree with lesley corbett on his comments. I sense there that harry regrets not being able to do sooty with Wogan but i can see matthew's point in a way. He may not have gone about it wholly the correct way but it may confuse kids and adults. But surely though people knew then who matthew and harry was? Ah well I loved Matthew with Sooty just a shame Matthew handed it to people I feel are not worthy of Sooty. Where is Sooty now?

Since Matthew retired 10 years ago, Sooty and friends have been under the thrall of some bloke called Richard.

I'm sorry to say the new bloke's absolutely hopeless - he's made Sooty the assistant, not the other way around.

At the end of last year ITV cancelled the new look Sooty Show he does - and, I'm sorry to say, I'm not surprised - it's not a patch on what it used to be.

Leslie Corbett's comment on "The Matthew Show with Sooty" is neither true nor fair - Matthew took the show and made it his own and a colossal success in his own right; one would be hard-pressed to find a more humble man in television.

i agree, that is totally untrue, i am a big fan of the show and think that while Matthew is an extremely witty guy with a very clever sense of humour, he nevers steals the limelight.

however, i must add here that the young girl and guy who do the show now - Sooty Heights - are awful and i personally dont like the new show at all, it doesnt have the same feel to it, i think the sooty show used to have clever jokes hidden in the scripts - i still get in fits of giggles watching it!!!
