1986, I guess... What an excellent song! Thank you 123ruffy for finding it and sharing it! I want it played at my funeral and I want everybody to dance to it!
how are those people jus standin there mates>? I'd be a jumpin', twirlin', flyin', scrapin' and stompin' all over that hall.....can't stay on the ground in the presence of such genius >:-)
I think you will find The Waterboys have had English , Irish , Welsh, American and Scottish musicians in their various line ups. there is very little room for bigotry in music. spread the love... xoxox
I think the Waterboys are Scottish, but that's alright. The Scots are cousins to us Irish. We both have the same attitude towards our friends the English.
@guyfihi what part of ireland you from? when i was growing up the people of sligo hated the scots as well. As 123ruffy say's there is no need for bigotry in music.......
messi33 makes a good point. I emphasise that I was posing a question about the subjunctive, and I know that English usage has more or less outdated that rule/formation. In any case, Fisherman's Blues is a jolly song. I await the next stage of Mike Scott's evolution/progress through the musical landscape (a rather long wait, it seems).
just messing on here trying to guess which bands and tracks my mum would of liked and listend to! I know she would of really liked this, she would of just turned fiftey one in april. I s this fron her ere????xxxxxxx
@Kinokiddo Not necessarily. In British English, it is also very possible to hear someone say, e.g. "I wish I was taller." The subjunctive "were", however, is normally preferred as you have already pointed out.
That kids, is what a bands supposed to be!! Playing every song with 100% of their fucking soul.. Not your weak ass MTV fake bubbleheads lip syncing ghetto rat music...
You're absolutely right, silkwood. If one song ever changed my life, this is it. I remember i was simply stuck in front of my stereo when I heard it for the first time. Still makes me shiver...
Greetings from Manila. From where I come from The Waterboys will always be remembered for The Pan Within. Sadly, only a handful would remember this great song which is also the title of their great album in 1988 which Time magazine had picked as one of the most notable releases for that year.
Ah I remember when this was aired! I had no idea they'd moved away from the sound of Whole Of The Moon and the rest of their initial albums. I was initially shocked and then as it progressed I was more and more blown away. Great song from what has proved to be their finest album. Thanks 123ruffy.
I see dead people in the audience. If I were there - I would've climbed that stage and danced myself to unconsciousness. Such a great song and such a powerful performance!
" YOU IN MY ARMS" I wish Cande, Ryde, Isle of Wight was in my arms, we had to end it because we are with other people but I love you with all my heart, Its been 6 months and a whole lot of trouble but I think about you constantly,

Flippin' heck, Anto had hair once upon a time. Nice gent. Very quiet. Wonder if the Docs have ever worked this into a medley with N17? Same speed, same dominant instrument present (mandolin). Would rather hear that than another version of "Hay Wrap" that goes on ad nauseum, much as I love the Docs.

The Fisherman's Blues album was released in 1988, so this TotP is probably from that year. They played the song live atleast two years earlier, though.
