The Shogun was never in the same league as the RR and it still isn't! What it was, especially back then, is a much more reliable car. I know which one I'ld buy used today.
Also, 20 mpg and just under 100 mph for the Shogun. Today's diesel, which is much heavier, safer and better equipped does mid 20's and can top nudge 110 mph. Progress? I'ld say so.
I have worked a lot on both Range Rovers and Mitsubishi Shoguns. I own 2 Range Rover Classics (1988 & 1993) and no Mitsubishis..... You can keep your Foreign pretenders!. Range Rover Rules.
had both LR DISCO & DIFFENDER,,SHOGUN/PAJERO & TOYOTA LANDCRUISER newish & old,,,,,& in my opinion the landrover's are better off road but the jap stuff are better for every day use! so on the basis that my shogun can do both with out effort i choose the jap stuff everytime also landrover root for fun!!!
i love these old test, remind me of simpler ages, when u didnt need a 10inch tft monitor, or a 35speaker hi-fi dolby digital entertainment unit as standards
I would buy a t4r first. Toyota 4Runner. I say its the all around best offroad truck. Well, the Land Cruiser first. But I would buy a 4Runner first. The Range Rover wont last but 50,000 miles if your lucky. The mitsubishi is just ugly. So, I would buy the t4r first.
@Motorfordtoyota The 4 runner of the 90's wasn't exactly a svelt beauty either, the G-wagon probably is the most durable and best built of all of them, too bad you pay the price for it. The Nissan Patrol would be my choice, it wasn't available in the US so you've probably never even heard of it but it has better looks and also great off-road performance for a fraction of the price.
@jml8841 Ahh, Its better than anything in America, better than the explorer, blazer, rodeo, cherokee, and that shitty mitsubishi SUV that should have never been put in production for Amercia. Well, I changed my mind, I would rather have a Land Cruiser, cause it has awsome offroad abilitys, Well, I would have the 4runner and the Land Cruiser! Cool. LOYALTOYOTA!!!
@Motorfordtoyota Sorry to prove you wrong, but my Range (1972 model) has run some 350 000 miles and counting... and it eats Toyboats for breakfast ;)
plus it looks good, unlike the Land Cruiser. However, that's only my personal opinion. In the nineties, the new vehicle I would have bought would've been a Discovery. A 200tdi (2,5 litre turbodiesel) version. A friend of mine has run well over 300 000 miles with his. And we use them frequently off-road ;)
t4r? wtf that is the shittest name ive ever heard! i woulnd even buy think of branding something t4r? it sounds like a cheap Japanese leaf sprung 2x4 to me.... oh wait it is.
@TheCloudsThunder Its amazing how ignorit you people are. I have a toyota 4runner. It is made buy the people who make the best 4x4s. The 4runner is a 4x4, it uses leaf springs because they are best with towing and offroading. My 4runner has a comfortable ride never the less. And that 3 litre v6 is the most reliable engine I have seen in the past 20 years next to GMs 3.1 mpfi and 3800 series II v6s. My 4runner could go far longer than any Land rover I have ever seen.
@Mcmerc01 That's a 1989 video and that's a W461basically a military version it had no luxuries at all, unlike the W463 or the modern version we have now.
pajeros are actually rubbish off road lacking in clearance with independant suspension at the front and very thick antiroll bars front and back makes its axle articulation terrible aswell although they are cheap nowadays and very reliable
@subiemon we took a shogun v6 short wheelbase and a landrover discovery that was bought for 300 quid to an offroad site and the disco far outperformed the shogun live axles all round coil springs and no antirollbars is what you want plus the landy is more comfortable but on road the shogun wins for an offroader they corner quite well
G-wagen a pretender?! Honestly, it's not as popular or refined as a Range Rover, but it is more rugged like a leather-bound H1, more exclusive than an RR, and has a more prestige image. But for everyday livability, the Range Rover is uncanny, and better than the G.
shogun? we call it pajero :)
